Sushi History

Sushi Sushi is an ancient delicacy that has been around for quite some time.

When you hear the word “Sushi”, you probably think of Japan. Actually, the first form of Sushi was created in China around the second century.

Sushi history At first people were trying to preserve the fish they

caught, so they put the fish in rice to cause fermentation. When they needed to use the fish, the rice was then thrown away. Fish stored this way could be kept edible a little longer.

very popular and it swept throughout China. Eventually it travelled across the East Sea the Japan.

A man named Matsumoto Yoshiichi , who lived in Edo in the 17th century, decided to put rice wine vinegar in the rice. Suddenly the sushi he was selling could be eaten right away, without fermenting first. People no longer had to wait months before the sushi was ready to be eaten.

Then another important change took place in the 19th century. A man who went by the name of Hanaya Yohei took sushi in a new direction. He didn’t want to put the fish inside the rice; instead he laid the fish on top of in rice.

Hanaya Yohei made sushi into the first real fast food in Japan. It was served at stalls on the street. It was meant to be a quick bite or something to eat on the go. It was extremely popular and it spread like wild fire.

indoors. People in the west took in this unusual style of eating raw fish with open arms. It spread around the world and is now loved by many.
