Berkeley Hills Men’s Ryder Cup On October 16th and 17th the Men’s Ryder Cup will take place in the morning. Superintendent News October 2021 In my September article, we had mentioned beginning September 12th, we would begin the 3 holes per green. Due to shipping and lack of inventory, not all the items arrived in time. We have a USGA 4-Ball qualifier and The Berkeley Cup, which will not want the 3 holes per green. So, beginning Monday October 25th, we will cut 3 holes on each green. Two out of the three holes will have an artificial plug, which is flush with the surface. Depending on what hole location it is that day will determine which of the 3 holes will have the plug removed and the flag in place. We are doing this to eliminate the excess of old cups that will be in the green during the slow growing months. Based on the amount of play, we plan on moving these holes every 2 weeks. It’s about 30 days away, but here are some updates on the irrigation project that’s coming near. At any time, a contractor will show up to bore under the streets where our new irrigation lines will run. It should not disrupt play. The week of October 18th, all the materials will begin to arrive. The same week, the power to the small pumphouse will be cut and we will begin to dismantle everything inside. At this point, we will not have water for the course except what we can pull from #4, and it will not be long before that is cut off also. The plan is near the end of October or beginning of November, the new pumphouse will be installed on #18. They will remove the little building near the bridge, drain the lake completely, dig a large hole for the wet-well, pour concrete, and set the new pumphouse. Around this same time, the installation of the pipe and sprinklers is supposed to begin. Once the installation begins, the hole or holes we are working on will be closed until the job is finished. I expect a hole to be closed for a week at a time. All the other holes will be open for play. When we begin to install the Driving Range, it will be closed the same way until it is finished. Exciting times at the Berk!!! Chris Purvis

BERKELEY SENIOR CORNER

September 2021

Berkeley Senior Ringer Tournament postponed till October 5 and 6:All Berkeley seniors are welcome. Members who have signed up for this tournament in September should confirm

your participation on this new date. This tournament over two days will allow the substitution of any score on any hole lower than to first round to be counted resulting in a composite new and lower one round total.

NASMGA Tournament Schedule – 6th tournament on August 24 at The Manor CCThe format was a 4 man team event, 1 net and 1 gross score. Congratulations to Brad Floyd for leading his team to a

5th place finish

NASMGA September Tournament – Country Club of Roswell 9/23:This was a partner’s event with the lowest score of the two on each hole. The partners were not from the same club. The field was divided into four flights, A, B, C and D handicap players. Nine players from Berkeley participated and 4

came away with prize money. Paul Dillon and his partner won in the A flight setting the low score for the tournament. Dan Settle came in second in the B flight, Barry Lakas came in 6th in the B flight and Jim Andersen came in 7th in the

D flight.

The last scheduled NASMGA tournaments for 2021 is at the Windermere Country Club on 10/19. This is the NASMGA Championship with individual gross and net winners. Sign-up for all NASMGA tournaments is available on

the nasmga.com website three to four weeks before the event.

Berkeley Senior Match Play Results of the Match against Indian Hills CC - 9/2/2021:Match Play Captain Barry Lakas reported “Well the weather was good but we lost at Indian Hills 12.5 to 5.5. One

highlight was Ted Wyerman and Ken Jordan taking two of our points. Good playing guys. Looks like no playoffs this year. We started out losing a home match to Windemere and could never recover. We’ll give it a go again next year.”

First Buddies Trip in 2021 to McLemore Club in the Georgia Mountains:We are very excited to spend two days at the McLemore Club, featured in the current issue of Golf Digest as a top 100 Public Course in the USA. We have tee times on Wednesday afternoon, September 29 and Thursday morning,

September 30. We are happy to be back planning buddies golf trips. Over the years we have had great trips to places like Idle Hour CC, Brasstown Valley, Robert Trent Jones courses in Alabama and many others. But the COVD19

Pandemic stopped us from scheduling golf trips in 2020 and the first half of 2021.
