DESCRIPTION
2nd Grade Literary MagazineTRANSCRIPT
Book title: Harry Potter and the prisoner of AZKABAN
Author: J.K. Rowling
Illustrator: Mary Grandpré
This book was about the adventures of Harry Potter. In this
book he finds out that Sirius Black(once James Potter’s best
friend) helped He-who-must-not-be-named against the Potters.
My favorite character in this book was…
Harry, because he is very clever and a very kind person.
I liked this book because…
This book has Action, Adventure and Suspense.
You should read this book because…
When there is a suspenseful part you want to find out what the
next part will be. Plus, if you don’t want to read a violent
book, the scary parts don’t involve any killing.
Thank you for reading my book review
Sincerely,
Alex M.

Four Seasons By Arya S. Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter Have fun all these seasons. Look outside from the window Watch for Spring’s beautiful rainbows. Summer is No Bummer. Don’t sit inside, go outside. It is a time to enjoy the Sun. Gold, Orange, Red and Yellow. Looks so pretty when leaves Fall down. After Fall I am ready for the Ball. Beautiful Snowflakes, White everywhere. Wait for Santa and a Happy New Year. No matter if it's rain or if it's shine No matter if it’s cold or hot. Have some fun and don’t you worry.

THE MYSTERIOUS HOUSE
There once was a boy named Max,
he had 100 brothers
including him and 100 sisters.
They had an aunt Henna
and an uncle Rouf.
They lived in a mysterious house.
It was called an Orphanage
They were waiting for someone to adopt them,
aunt Henna and uncle Rouf were mean
one day they were tired of the orphanage.
The 100 boys huddled
with the 100 girls,
they wanted freedom!
Another day they all escaped
when the aunt and uncle weren’t home.
The horns rang,
what a mysterious house.
They were safe forever
But, Max stayed.
Aunt Henna and uncle Rouf are coming,
they have a visitor.
It was the owners Victor and Victoria.
Julie got Rex,
She ran back,
Victor and Victoria were mad.
They blew the orphanage down,
and the children were happy
and the mysterious house
Was bye, bye!

My Mom
My mom warms my heart
When I am scared, she is there
When I am sad, she is there
When I am happy, she is there
When I am glad, she is there
When I am an adult, she will still be there!
I love my mom and she loves me.
Lauren
Smart,
Considerate,
Kind,
Likes to play tennis
Fears spiders and thunders
Wants to swim with a killer whale
Worries about bugs biting me
Wonders about when my allergies and rashes will go away
Hopes to visit Greece and China one day
Dreams about being a pet trainer!
The Starry Night
Ghosts get pushed in the wind,
Swish! Swish!
Stars gleaming in the night,
Twinkle! Twinkle!
Moon shining up in the mountains,
Making shadows big and small
The sky is having a party at night!
My First Day of School
Some new faces, some old faces
New classroom, new people
Doing activities, having fun
Meeting new friends, being buddies
Playing together, having fun
Learning Math, Reading and Writing
Going to specials - PE, Art, Music, Spanish
School is fun!

MOUNTAIN BIKING WITH THE PROS
By Nick C. 2nd grade, Mrs. Ramirez
What is mountain biking
According to Wikipedia “Mountain biking is a sport which consists of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially adapted mountain bikes.
This individual sport requires endurance, core strength and balance, bike handling skills, and self-reliance. “
Why mountain biking is great I like when you can go fast on the trails. When you finish your ride it feels like you have accomplished a lot. It feels really fun riding in the woods, going through the trees and riding over rocks. The hard trails are a challenge but you feel confident and surprised that you can do it. How you become a great mountain biker You practice every day for a few hours to get better. If you want to become good at something you have to try and try again. You have to love to ride a bike to be good at it. What’s the point of riding if you don’t love it? It is good to have a riding partner that has experience in mountain biking. If you don’t win a race you have to practice a lot and then win the next race.
My inspiration
My dad was my inspiration to start mountain biking. He races a lot and that got my attention to ride a mountain bike. My dad rides for a team called MTBNJ. He does mountain biking races, cycle cross races, and road races. He trains really hard to get better to win. In April I went to my dad’s race. It was The Tour of the Battenkill, a road race. I gave my dad a water bottle at the feeding station. I liked watching the race because I was learning from the riders how to ride better. My favorite places to ride
My dad, brother and I like to ride at 6 –mile, Mercer and Clayton. My best ride was 14 mile loop in 2 hours.
After every ride we go to Dairy Queen to get some ice cream. This is kind of a tradition after every ride. It’s a treat because we do so good during the ride.
My Races
I am 8 years old and I’ve been riding my mountain bike for over 2 years. I did a lot of mountain biking races so far and I participated in my first triathlon. The biking part was pretty easy.
The last mountain biking race was at Kittatinny park. I won 2nd place and got a medal. I raced with 2nd and 3rd graders. We raced for 3 laps. After that I raced with the 4th and 5th graders and did great.
Preparing for your ride You need to be prepared for your ride. You need to have helmet, gloves, water bottle, extra tube, and biking tools. You should also spray some bug spray on you before you go biking.
How to ride First, you swing your left leg to the left side of the bike. Then you put your left leg on the pedal. Next you push off with your right leg. After you push off quickly put your right leg on the pedal. After that you start pedaling (clockwise). How to go over obstacles If you go on a mountain biking trail and you’ve never done it you should go on the easy trails. If you see a log you have to go fast toward it. When you get to the log do not stop. After your wheel touches the log, try to pull with your handlebars to go up. After you successfully get your handlebars up, you’ll see your wheel go up. After your wheel goes up try to put it on top of the log. Then go fast and try to get your back wheel on top of the log. When you get your back wheel on top of the log go fast and go down. You never slow down on a log. If you do, you would never even get to the top. And do this all in one step. Making turns If you have to turn, (right or left) turn your handle bars in the direction you’re going. If you need to turn around, go right or left. Then you go straight. If you want to go around something you go right or left around. If you go too close to the object you are going around you will crash. So that’s why you take big, wide turns around the object. Gears If you want to go a different speed you can use gears. For kids, there are about 7 and 6 gears. Adults can have gears somewhere in the 20’s. Other bikes have one gear. That is called a single speed bike. If you have more than one gear that is called geared bike.
When you go uphill you need to use one of the light gears, like 1, 2 or 3. When you are going somewhere that is flat, you can use the gears somewhere in the middle, 5 or 6. When you go downhill you need to use the biggest gear to get more power and speed. Going downhill When you are going down a hill you never take your feet off the pedals. If you do, you might lose balance and fall. That is why you do not put your feet off the pedals. If there is root’s you can either go around them or you can go on top of them. If it is one of those hills where you go downhill then uphill you have to go really fast. When you finish going downhill you have to switch to gear 1 or gear 2. After you switch to gear 1 or gear 2 you have to pedal really fast. Usually when you go over a root, you cannot go any higher. So here is some advice - do not try to go over a root. But, if you have the strength to do it you can try. The way to avoid the roots is going around the roots. It’s a little hard but like I said a few hours every day can be very good for you. Interval training To get better at riding, you can do intervals. Intervals are when you ride very fast and go all out for a few minutes and then ride slowly for a few minutes after that.

The Tale of Despereaux (Book Review) By Rylan C. Despereaux is a mouse who wants to be a knight in shining armor and save the princess. Chiaroscuro seeks revenge on the princess. Will Despereaux save the princess? Or will the princess suffer in the dungeon? You’ll have to read The Tale of Despereaux to find out. I really liked how Despereaux wants to save the princess. I disliked how Chiaroscuro wanted to kidnap the princess. One thing I learned from Despereaux was how important it is to never give up. Despereaux showed me how to never give up even when things were really scary. I recommend this book to kids and adults that like adventure.

Alice and Greta (Book Review) By Shaina S. Alice and Greta is a book about witches who are very different. One day, Greta wanted to stir up trouble. Will Greta’s plan work, or will Alice save the day? I like Alice and Greta because it has magic (both good and bad) and they look at the same thing but in different ways. I would want to see another book about when Greta goes to school AGAIN. I learned from Alice and Greta to treat others the way you’d like to be treated. I think people who will like book also like magic, kindness, and a good deal of fairy tales. Alice and Greta taught me to always look at something in a good way. If you want to find out what happens read Alice and Greta!
STARS
By Shine Wang
Stars, stars in the sky
Very high in the sky
Stars are shining in the night so pretty
Each star comes after a thousand years
They come back after a thousand years too
Stars live where planets live in space
Some are small some are big they come in all sizes
Some are even bigger than the sun
Some are even as small as earth or smaller
Stars are like little sparkles in the sky
Stars are very fun to watch in the night
It would be awesome to grab a star in your hands
