News
A very warm welcome to our two newest members.
Miriam Hofing joined us in May, has been taking part in the Exercise Class with Bob and also signed up for Rabbi Grossman’s class on Wednesday. Happy to see her enjoying all we offer.
Judy Weinberg also joined us in May and joined Rabbi’s class as well. What a nice addition to our group!
Condolences to Ernestine Urken on the death of her Aunt, Beatrice Barr. Ernie faithfully visited Aunt Bea who remained in her apartment until now and was 107 years old.
Congratulations to our Virginia Lucas on the 60th reunion of her graduating class from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing. Ginny marched in the reunion parade proudly wearing a button that said: “Don’t worry, I don’t remember your name either”

JUNE 15
12:30 – “Portugal: Mainland and the Island of Madeira” - Janice Gross will entice us with tales of her recent trip, incorporating some geography, general and Jewish history, a little language lesson and a recipe or two. She will include photographs to illustrate her talk! This will be our closing meeting of the season. Some of us will be enjoying the seashore, the mountains or a few extra programs that Janeen is planning for us.
JULY 13 12:00 at Adath - Lunch and Movie - Our first get-together of the summer will be the movie "Big Eyes" after our lunch at noon. This 4 star movie features Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz as Margaret and Walter Keane. She was actually the artist of the wildly popular paintings of children with "big eyes", but he took all the credit.
Call Janeen to reserve your place for lunch. 609-989-9879

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:
Sondra Obstein
We in the Golden Age Club have been so fortunate to have Sondra as our Vice
President of Membership. Her gentle manner and optimism belie the strength of
spirit and activism that are integral to her life work.
Sondra grew up in Laurelton, Queens, NY and attended Hunter College in
NYC. After many years as a paralegal, she studied reflexology and changed
careers. In 1972 she moved to Trenton and two years later was married to Dan
Obstein. And so her next career in Volunteerism began.
Sondra soon became a member of the Mercer County Commission on the
Status of Women, working together with Barbara Boggs Sigmund and
becoming a founding member of Womanspace, Inc. in 1977. For her years of
work to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault she was
recognized with a Woman of Achievement Award by the Mercer County Board
of Freeholders in 2007.
In continuing her work to eliminate domestic violence, she also helped on the
planning committee for Project SARAH, a program of Jewish Family and
Children’s Service. Additionally she was associated with LIFT, a Trenton
agency to help unwed mothers, and volunteered for many years at Angel’s
Wings, a shelter for abused and neglected children.
Sondra continues her long-standing membership on the Board of and activism
with Interfaith Caregivers of Greater Trenton. She has worked with them since
2003 to help extend vital support resources to homebound elderly individuals
and people with physical disabilities.
Although she has never sought awards, Sondra is the very proud recipient of
the 2005 National Jefferson Award for Public Service. She was nominated by
P’nai Or Princeton Congregation, of which she is a founding member, for her
longtime commitment to improve her community through volunteerism.
We are so proud to have you with us; we love you and we commend you.
REMEMBER – Your 2015 dues are due. Stay current in order to enjoy in the coming months our classes, weekly programs, a dinner theater trip, the annual Seder, Anniversary luncheon, another Hanukkah party. As a Golden Age Club your participation is subsidized whenever there is a fee.
