About GRCP:

Courses Offered:

B. Pharmacy

M. Pharmacy

About the Seminar:

Gokaraju Rangaraju College of Pharmacy (GRCP)

was established in the year 2003 by Dr. G. Gangaraju, in

fond memory of his father, Late Sri Gokaraju

Rangaraju, a crusader in the field of education in the

West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh.

The mission of GRCP is to impart pharmaceutical

education of international standards to our students

to help them become pharmacists of the highest

caliber, while upholding human values. GRCP strives to

provide state-of-art infrastructure. Multi-speciality

faculty continuously review, innovate, experiment

teaching methodologies and learning resources and

focus on research, training and consultancy through

an integrated institute-industry symbiosis. The

college is twice NBA Accredited.

1) Pharmaceutics

2) Pharmaceutical Chemistry

3) Pharmaceutical Analysis and

Quality Assurance

4) Industrial Pharmacy

5) Pharmacology

Spring and parachute phenomenon is a concept

of improving bioavailability of drugs from dosage

forms. The drug availability at the site of absorption is

boasted (spring-like) so that initial blood levels will be

rapid and higher. Similar to parachute, sailing at the

the same levels is maintained on subsequent drug

absorption. Hence active absorption phase is handled

through formulation manipulation.

If a drug absorbed from the gastric region of the

GIT, the initial 2 hour period of dissolution is

significantly enhances the rate of bioavailability. The

spring and parachute phenomenon needs to be

exploited for the advantage of drug delivery,

particularly to Class II drugs of Biopharmaceutics

Classification System (BCS). Class II (low solubility and

high permeability) drugs have been constantly

attracted the attention of the pharmacist in the

formulation. development. In short, absorption is a

serious problem for the following categories.

a) Poorly water soluble drugs owing to poor

dissolution.

b) Acidic drugs are absorbed from gastric region.

Delayed release of these drugs may lead to

decreased absorption, in addition to delayed

onset of action.

Therefore, the rare of bioavailability (C and max

t ) is important for the performance of a dosage max

form. The strategies involved to achieve spring and

parachute technologies are wide and varied. A few

topics of relevance are:

ØPhysical froms, polymorhphs, cocrystals,

nanostructures.

ØCosolvency, salts, complexes, hyrotropes.

ØFormulation aspects, SMEEDS, oro-disperse

systems.

ØPolymeric delivery systems.

The topics are advanced and have been

increasingly stressed in the revision of syllabus, but

not adequately covered so for.

1. To enlighten the principles of modeling and

theoretical principles of technologies.

2. To highlight the BCS system and measures to

obviate the problems of therapy.

3. To emphasize the characterization of spring and

parachute technologies, in-vitro and in-vivo.
