Selective Highlighting/Underlining
• Have students preview the material without a highlighter first:– Read introductory paragraph– Note bold headings– Examine pictures/graphs/charts– Read concluding paragraph

• Re-read one paragraph at a time and begin highlighting/underlining key words or phrases.
• You may have the students underline different concepts in different colors– For example: pink = vocabulary words, yellow =
main idea, blue = details, etc.
