PPCC MAIL LIST CORSA set up PPCC with a mail list. To subscribe, send an e-mail to Garrie Fox [email protected] telling me you would like to subscribe and I will add you to the list. Same goes if you want to unsubscribe. This mail list is like a small version of the VV’s. You send a message to [email protected] and it sends the message to everyone subscribed. The list is set-up to block all attachments and convert all formatted text (HTML) to plain text to greatly reduce the chances of transmitting a virus. This list is intended to improve communication within PPCC. It will mostly be used to let us know about meetings, brunches and car shows, cars and parts for sale

Report

From

PPCC

President

Patricia Fox Our November meeting was not in the usual room, but who cared? We were very productive with over 20 members attending. We so appreciate the contri-butions, conversations and even a little Show & Tell. So much knowledge around very old Corvairs. They keep go-ing & going. It appears we will have new additions soon. Bring the stories behind them and with photos too, we can make sure Paul has pages of good reading in the DRIPLINE. We also welcome our new Members, Some are finding us on Facebook as well as the club website. It appears we may fill the room this year at the Holiday Party and we look forward to seeing a record number of members and their families. Don’t forget the gift exchange! Be sure to mark your calen-dar for Sunday, 12.16.12 @ 4p.m. in lieu of the usual breakfast meeting time. Our new President, Ed Halpin, is already working for PPCC behind the scenes. Thank you, Ed for taking over the posi-tion. Randy Karl, has also agreed to be our new Vice President (also existing webmaster). What a Team! This year has flown by and as we move forward 2013 is already looking good. The Tri-State will be in Cripple Creek, CO with the date being moved out one week to accommodate our varied sched-ules. Cripple Creek has a new and im-

proved website should you want to learn more about this location. Our Host Ho-tel, The Double Eagle Hotel & Casino, has promised to meet our every need and it appears the rates are reasonable & comparable to past Tri States. It is important to remember that you will be at an elevation of 9,494 feet, which may not sound like much, but staying hydrat-ed is very important. Be sure to check the DRIPLINE for all the details as we get closer to May/June 2013.

Another Source for Corvair Parts

Club member Nancy Feldman has quite a history with Corvairs. Her brother, Art, McCreigt is in Florida and might be a good al-ternative choice for used and re-conditioned parts if you can’t find them locally. His phone number is 904-734-3698.

Rocky Mountain Corsa

New Year’s Day Brunch Cruise to

Estes ParkI

Think the last Pikes Peak Corvair Club member to attend the annual brunch in Estes Park was Kermit Shields. But, all PPCC members are again cordially invited to drive to “The other Side” Restaurant in Es-tes Park at 2:00 pm for some hot food and good fun with our Rocky Mountain Corsa friends in Estes Park

Ed Halpin sent me an email stating that he had purchased a Corvair that I owned 20 some years ago. That got me to thinking about the Corvairs I have owned. I will list them, but not necessarily in order of acquisition. The first one was a 64 coupe that I bought in Sioux Falls. All I knew about Corvairs was that the motor was in the rear and they tended to leak oil. When I bought the car the parking brake wasn’t working but the seller graciously included a rock to put by the wheel. My son Gary drove the car to high school. It was a very good snow car. It followed us to Colorado Springs in 1979. It was probably my only Cor-vair when I joined the PPCC. I eventually sold the car to Ray Schick (PPCC). I bought a 67 4-door from Mrs. Tutt of the Broad-moor. It was the best of the Corvairs I have owned. Eventually I acquired a couple converti-bles and didn’t use the 4-door much so I sold it. This is the car Ed Halpin acquired so it is back in the PPCC . I acquired a blue 64 convertible from Jim Wood (PPCC). I later sold it to a Shriner who is still using it. I can recognize it because it is a red car with a blue interior. Next I acquired a maroon convertible, again from Jim Wood. I purchased that as a birthday pre-sent for my wife, Bobbie. She drove the Corvair in the summer time and her baby Blazer in the winter. I recently sold the car to Wayne Russert (PPCC) and he loves it! The 65 convertible was acquired from a dentist who had accepted it in payment of dental work. My great accomplishment with it was to install “factory air”. That is major surgery. The parts I

installed were from a 1966 which has a much better arrangement for the condenser. I still have this one, but will be selling in the future – don’t know when. In the early sixties I saw a van for sale on Union Avenue. The seller was anxious to sell as he was leaving town. I bought it for $500.00. Eventually I fixed it up a bit, painted it and did some upholstery work. I sold it to Dennis Pleau (PPCC). They used it a lot. And I think the van went to California. One day I saw a Rampside for sale. It eventual-ly followed me home. I used it many years. It was the official Kiwanis vehicle at the El Paso County Fair for many years. I sold it to Garrie Fox (PPCC) recently. I have a second Rampside (double) which used to belong to our late member, Walter Hun-dertmark. His sister gave it to me for helping her with Walter’s property, etc. It was only a shell. I don’t know why Walter had stripped it. It also had some body damage. I had the dam-age repaired and installed an engine I had. I have restored it to look like Walter had it at one time. I have left his “Bronco” accessories, found hubcaps like he had, etc. etc. I still have this one. I have also had a couple parts cars – a van I don’t remember where I got, an early damaged coupe which I bought to get the manual trans-mission that Steve (PPCC) put in the maroon convertible and a van that Cindy Hupp (PPCC) had wrecked. It had a good engine which is now in Walter’s Rampside. Corvairs and PPCC have been part of my life for many years.
