godly body & money goals for 2017
TRANSCRIPT
BIBLICAL BASIS FOR GOALS
All things made by Him and for Him—including our lives ( Col. 1:16)
God made us to do certain specific good works (Eph. 2:10)
God expects our lives to bear eternal fruit. He inspects our fruit.
“This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” ( John 15:8)
“But the noble man devises noble plans; And by noble plans he stands.” ( Is. 32:8) (Stands before God and Man)
WHY GOALS FOR OUR BODY?
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own…” (I Cor. 6:19)
“For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” (I Cor. 6:20)
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all He has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice--the kind He will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” ( Romans 12:1)
GOD’S GOALS FOR OUR BODY
“…that with all boldness, Christ will even now, as always, be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.” ( Phil.1:20)
“He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me…” (John 14:21)
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” ( Phil. 1:21)
USING OUR BODY FOR GOD
“but I beat my body and bring it into submission, lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be rejected..” (1Cor. 9:27)
“Women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control…” (1Tim. 2:9)
“The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body…Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself?” (1Cor. 6:13-15)
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” ( I Cor. 10:31)
BIBLICAL FINANCIAL PRINCIPLES
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (1John 12:15-17)
“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”
God gives us money to use for His purposes: Luke 19: 11-26
USE MONEY TO PREPARE FOR HEAVEN
“And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by means of the wealth of unrighteousness, so that when it fails, they [ God] will receive you into the eternal dwellings.
He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the use of unrighteous wealth, who will entrust the true riches to you?” (Luke 16:1-11)
GIVING TO GOD
Tithe was OT law. Failure to tithe caused loss (Malachi)
Proportional giving is NT standard.
Give in proportion to your income: Widow’s Mite ( Luke 21: 1-4)
God expects much from those He gives much (Luke 12:48)
Regular giving to the church based on income (I Cor. 16:1-2)
NT is a better covenant (Hebrews). Our response to God should be better than OT: 10% should be minimum giving goal
