Processing Activity

ACTIVITY Using the sink, bathtub or a large container, add dolls, child-safe baby shampoo and washcloths or sponges. Show your little one how to bathe the baby doll. Encourage conversation by asking “Can you bathe the baby? What do you do with the soap? How do you take a bath?” If you don’t have a doll, try another water-safe object.

LEARNING SKILLS Imitating basic hygiene practices

Materials Bathtub, dolls, shampoo, washcloths, sponges

CONNECTION Activity

PERSONAL CARE INTERACTIONS

ACTIVITY Make some sponge blocks by cutting new sponges into four-inch shapes. Triangles, squares and rectangles are the best shapes for little hands to manipulate and stack. Place the sponge blocks in front of your little one and demonstrate how to pick them up and stack them to make a tall tower. Encourage your baby to stack the sponge blocks. Your baby will have a great time knocking them down and dropping them on the floor, especially from his or her high chair.

LEARNING SKILLS Demonstrating an increased ability to identify basic shapes

Materials Sponges, scissors

ACTIVITY Encourage your baby to assist you in the handwashing routine. Have your baby help turn on the water, get child-safe soap and dry hands.

LEARNING SKILLS Actively participating with an adult in daily hygiene routines

Materials Soap, water
