that His children will be able to distinguish “His voice”from “other voices.”

In John 10:3-5, we as Believers are comparedto sheep. It is the characteristic of sheep not toknow where they are going, Jesus says He isthe good shepherd or leader of the sheep, forsheep must be “led.” Jesus says He is the goodshepherd or leader of the sheep. He tells us“His” sheep know “His” voice and will follow“Him” instead of the voice of man, the voice ofself, or the voice of Satan.

Yes, God wants to communicate to man, butcommunication requires relationship.

From the beginning of creation God commu-nicated His will to mankind. He gave specific in-structions to Adam and Eve. They were toname the animals, tend the Garden, have com-panionship with each other and reproduce topopulate the earth.

Most importantly of all, they were to maintain an“intimate” fellowship with God. This “close-ness” with God enabled them to know Hisvoice. When God spoke, He communicated Hisplan to them.

By the “voice of God,” the will of God was re-vealed to Adam and Eve.

Every leader needs to study this course.“Knowing God’s Voice” is filled with truths andspiritual principles that are life-changing. Effective leaders must know...

* God’s will for their lives.* How God speaks to them.* How to tell if they are heading in the wrong direction.* What to do if their brook runs dry.* God’s will concerning suffering in their lives.

* The pattern of God’s will for their lives.* What to do if they have tried and failed.* The six stages of revelation.* How to recognize a questionable practice.

* How to always distinguish God’s voice.* A Biblical model for decision making.* Biblical guidelines for knowing God’s will for their lives and ministries.

Plus, a host of other things.

The Bible is God’s first lineof communication in re-vealing Himself to man-kind. It is through His HolyWord that He reveals to usthe different ways He hasspoken to man as well asman’s responses to Him.

Whenever we read “andthe Lord said,” it confirmsto us that God does stillcommunicate with man.

We remember how Balaamrefused to listen to God.Nevertheless, God desiredto communicate with thisman so much that He fi-nally resorted to using adonkey.

After the Bible was written,God didn’t just “suddenlystop speaking” to man.

God’s Word confirms to usthat we too can “know thevoice of God.” God desiresto speak to this generationbecause He has some-thing very “important” tosay to us. Someone mightask, “Why would we wantGod to speak to us today”?So that we will be faithfulto obey Him.

Even when God showedHimself faithful to the na-tion of Israel by deliveringthem from Egyptian captiv-ity, they repeatedly dis-obeyed Him.

In Hebrews 37-11, Godwarns us that when Hespeaks to us we are to re-spond by being obedientand not disobey Him as Is-rael did. The “temptation inthe wilderness” and the“provoking of God” men-tioned in these verses referto Israel’s disobedience.

The phrase in Hebrews 3:7,“today, if ye will hear Hisvoice,” confirms to us that Godis still speaking to man, just asHe did in times past.In Hebrews 3:15, we arewarned that “today if we willhear His voice.” This verse in-forms us that what God has tosay to us is of the utmost im-portance.

I Corinthians 14:10 reveals tous that there are many voicesin the world clamoring for ourattention. Who are thesevoices? One of these voices isthe voice of man.

The voice of man is easyto recognize, isn’t it? It isthe audible voice of an-other human being.

We have all probably hadsomeone tell us “to do” or “notto do” something in such man-ner that it sounded “very spiri-tual.” But, when we checked itout in God’s Word, we real-ized, that even though theymay have meant well, whatthey had told us was actuallycontrary to God’s Word.

Sometimes the voice of man may give uswise advice. Then there are times when thevoice of man conflicts with the voice of God.When this happens—we must obey Godrather than man.

We learn about another voice that speaks tous in I Corinthians 14:10, the voice of Satan.

The voice of Satan was first heard by Evewhen he spoke to her in the Garden of Eden.John 8:44 warns us that Satan speaks lies.He is a deceiver and always attempts to leadman into sin and away from God.

There are sad accounts of how Satan was suc-cessful in deceiving even men like Peter who hadbeen walking day-by-day with Jesus. However,Satan met his match when he tried to tempt Jesusin the wilderness in Matthew chapter 4. All theseevents are recorded in God’s Word for our benefit.

I wish I could tell you Satan no longerspeaks to man, but just as God still speaksto man, Satan is also there to speak lies, de-ceit, and sinful thoughts into our hearts andminds.

Another voice, is the voice of self. We readof examples in God’s Word concerning thevoice of self in Luke 16:3 and 18:4. TheBible warns us about self in Luke 21:34where it says we are to “take heed” to our-selves.

Although the voice of self will often try tomimic the voice of God, it will always lead usaway from picking up our cross, denying our-selves, and following Jesus. Self must beshunned—if God is to be won.

Then there is the most important voice, the voiceof the one who loves us and desires only the bestfor us—the voice of God. God tells us in His Word
