BISHOP FRANCIS’ WORKLOAD

BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP

Bishop Francis has sent an appeal to Synod representatives in areas where he serves as local Ordinary, including Colorado, as we have not elected our own local bishop. He has shared his strenuous travel and work schedule, is seeking assistance in relieving his work load, and is asking for permission to work with ECC Leadership to develop a process to nominate and elect an auxiliary bishop to assist with sacramental ministry and pastoral care for clergy in the areas where he currently serves as local Ordinary. He has asked representatives to vote on whether they approve or disapprove of his request to move forward and work with leadership in the ECC to relieve his work load in this way. The LOC HOL and HOP representatives (Steve de Haas, Fr. Teri Harroun, Rick Rogers, Mary Lu Stenson, and Jack Wolfe) are currently in prayer, research, and

discernment on how they will vote. If you would like to know more, or if you would like to share your opinion on this matter, please contact one of them. They are expected to vote by 9/12. Until then, we hold our Presiding Bishop in prayer.

All are welcome to bring your knitting or crocheting & attend the Bethlehem Lutheran / Light of Christ Prayer Shawl Ministry gathering from 10:00-11:30 am on Tuesday, September 19 in the Fireside Room. Yarn and instructions for

shawls and Peace Pals will be available. For information, contact Barb Olander at 303/651-3229.

All are welcome! Please join the LOC Book Group this Wednesday, September 13 at 7:00 pm in the Church Office for a lively discussion on this month’s book, Too Close to the Falls by Catherine Gildiner. Contact ML Thomas at 303/718-2667 for more details.

Light of Christ is partnering with the City of Longmont and offering a Mental Health First Aid workshop. Mark your calendars now for this

8 hours workshop to be offered for free here at LOC on Friday evening October 20th from 5-9pm and Saturday afternoon

October 21st from noon-4pm. Just as CPR helps you offer an individual having a heart attack - even if

you have no clinical training - can help you save someone experiencing a mental-health related crisis. We will have more details later in September including how to register for this workshop.

CELEBRATING THE INSTALLATION OF FR. TERI HARROUN

Thank you for calling me to serve as pastor here at Light of Christ, and for the blessing of the installation last weekend. I am still floating on the joy I experience. The butterfly theme was a beautiful

reminder of the resurrections that we experience often in our lives. Thank you for everyone who was involved with the liturgy and the reception. Both events were sacred. Thank you to the Call Committee and Parish Council. You put in countless hours to lead us throughout the process. Thank you to all of Light of Christ, and all our supporters and friends for including me in this next chapter of the journey here at Light of Christ. Thank you for the cards, texts, messages, flowers, gifts, and most importantly, thank you for you, each and every one of you and your presence. Thank you to God for imagining a faith community like Light of Christ,

and for inviting each and everyone of us. May we always tenderly take care of one another. The Mass never really ends, and we are the Body of Christ. Let us go forth into the world and spread joy. Yay God!

READY FOR SOME FUN?

The end of summer doesn’t mean that the fun stops. September is full of opportunities to enjoy friends—both new and old—around a dinner table with great conversation and laughs. We have three host couples who are ready to open their

heart and homes to you. People to People dinners will be held on Friday September 15, 22, and 29th. Each host can accommodate 6 guests. Sign up

sheets are available in the Narthex. First come, first serve. Once you sign up, the host will let you know what side dish you can bring. Thank you to Bev and Chuck Howard, Ellen and

Chuck Cooper, and Sally and Charlie Allen for taking on the role of hosts in September. All are eager to open their homes to you. If you have questions, contact Helen Majzler, 303-494-9029.

Grouth Youp is our youth group, for middle school and high school youth. We meet throughout the year, exploring prayer, the Bible, the ECC, and

various outreach projects. Our first gathering for the 2017-2018 school year is Saturday September 16th, from 6:15 to 8:00pm in the Church Office. Supper will be provided. Fr. Teri will be leading us. Please contact her if you have any questions. She is interested in having a second adult help her that evening, so contact her if you could join the group for this one night.

Copies of the Bryan Stevenson’s book, Just Mercy, have been distributed and many are already engrossed in the early chapters. It’s not too late to join us in reading this fascinating account of the struggles for justice among prisoners on death row who are awaiting execution for crimes they did not commit. The stories are compelling and even hopeful. We are planning two discussion groups to hear your reactions and thoughts. The discussion groups are scheduled for Wednesday October 4, 7:00-8:30 PM or Thursday October 12, 10:15-11:45 AM. We would love to have you join us.
