Joshua 1:1-9

• Meaning: 1) slave, servant 1a) slave, servant, man-servant 1b) subjects 1c) servants, worshipers (of God) 1d) servant (in special sense as prophets, Levites etc) 1e) servant (of Israel) 1f) servant (as form of address between equals)
Moses’ Physical Condition
• “his eye was not dim” • “nor was his vigor abated”
• Vigor-- x;le leach {lay'-akh} Meaning: moisture, freshness, vigor
• die – tAm' muwth {mooth} Meaning: to die, kill, have one executed
Moses’ and Joshua’s Key Differences
• Moses was a diplomatic, political type of leader
• Moses patiently listened to complaints
• Moses lead as a peacemaking shepherd
• Moses, through God’s power provided water from a rock for the people to drink
• Joshua was a military, in-your-face type of leader
• Joshua confronted laziness and fear of the enemy
• Joshua lead as a tough commander
• Joshua told the people to dig their own wells when they got thirsty
God Provides Joshua with Three Unchanging Truths
1. The written Word of God is utterly reliable
2. The power of God is always available to you
3. The person of God will always be there for you
Three Spiritual Exercises to Build His Spiritual Strength and Courage
• Learn the book – talk about it all of the time [1:8a]• Obey it exactingly [1:7, 8c]• Meditate on it [1:8b]

courage to go with it– Build your faith– Relying on our faith, practice obedience– Produces spiritual strength– That strength when combining faith produces
spiritual courage
