God is not ashamed of human lowliness but goes right into the middle of it,

chooses someone as instrument, and performs the miracles right there

where they are least expected. God draws near to the lowly, loving the lost,

the unnoticed, the unremarkable, the

excluded, the powerless, and the broken. What

people say is lost, God says is found; what people say is “condemned,” God says is

“saved.” Where people say No! God says Yes!

Dietricht Bonhoeffer

Joshua, no one will be able to defeat you as long as you live. I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will always be with you; I

will never abandon you. Be determined and confident, for you will be the leader of

these people as they occupy this land which I promised their ancestors.

Just be determined, be confident; and make sure that you obey the whole Law that my servant Moses gave you. Do not neglect

any part of it and you will succeed wherever you go. Be sure that the book of the Law is always read in your worship. Study it day and night, and make sure that you obey everything

written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Remember that I have commanded you to be determined and

confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the LORD your God, am with you wherever you go."

Josh 1:5-9

Our deepest fear is not that we are

inadequate. Our deepest fear is

that we are powerful beyond

measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.

Let us give thanks to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God from whom all help

comes! He helps us in all our troubles,

so that we are able to help others who have all kinds of

troubles, using the same help that we ourselves have

received from God. Just as we have a share in

Christ's many sufferings, so also through Christ we share

in God's great help. 2 Cor 1:3-5
