Go RVing Canada Launches Favourite RV Recipes Contest!

This month, Go RVing Canada launched its Favourite RV Recipes contest on the recently redesigned website. The contest will run until December 24th, 2012 and Go RVing Canada is encouraging all RV enthusiasts across the country to submit their favourite RV related recipe for a chance to win one of three amazing prizes.

A ‘top twenty’ list of the submitted recipes will be chosen and evaluated by a panel of judges, Phyllis Hinz and Lamont Mackay, otherwise known as The Cooking Ladies. Phyllis and Lamont are RV enthusiasts, the authors of nine cookbooks and former restaurateurs. They combine their appetite for adventure with meeting new people, seeing new places, sampling new foods, and creating recipes.

Recipes can be submitted in one of five categories:• Savoury appetizers• Soups and salads• Main course dishes• Mouth-watering desserts• Kid-friendly snacks

To help promote the contest, the Go RVing Canada PR team has collaborated with The Cooking Ladies and have launched their joint venture of ‘Five Weeks of Entertaining RV Recipes’ on Go RVing Canada’s Facebook Page. Every week, one RV-themed recipe will be posted for all RV enthusiasts’ enjoyment.

Go RVing Canada has launched a new

consumer contest that will reward the grand

prize winner with an RV weekend getaway in

a Class C rental, a gas card and a grocery

store gift card.

The “Favourite RV Recipes” contest encourages Canadian RV enthusiasts to submit their top RV-related

recipes. The contest will run through Dec. 24.

A "top 20" list of the submitted recipes will be chosen and evaluated by a panel of judges, including Phyllis

Hinz and Lamont Mackay – otherwise known as “The Cooking Ladies.”

Consumers can submit recipes in five categories, including appetizers, soups and salads, main course

dishes, desserts, and kid-friendly snacks.

The winning recipes will be judged based on the following criteria:

RV-friendly;

Ease of preparation;

Relevance to the fie categories;

Originality and creativity;

Visual appeal and taste;

Proper submission format;

Second prize in the contest will reward the winner with a $250 online gift card for Williams-Sonoma online.

Third prize earns the winner a six-piece set of Wusthof Steak Knives.

Third Annual Stuff the RV and Feed Someone’s Tummy!

Go RVing Canada is excited to host the third annual ‘Stuff the RV and Feed Someone’s Tummy’ holiday campaign. Every year, on a national level, Go RVing Canada hosts its annual campaign benefiting The Salvation Army in an effort to raise awareness on the need for food and monetary donations during the holiday season.

Go RVing Canada wants to extend the campaign to encourage the giving all year round and The PR team has engaged membership and is offering to assist them in hosting an event in their area through the fall and winter season. The Go RVing Canada PR team will assist in the preparation of the event by creating a media advisory and press release as well as create a local media list for the interested dealerships to encourage media coverage and consumer donations.

Dealerships are encouraged to hold food drives, charity fundraising events and more!

RICHMOND, B.C. -- Go RVing Canada today encouraged Canadian dealers to participate in the third annual Stuff the RV and Feed Someone's Tummy campaign.

"To encourage giving all year round, Go RVing Canada is asking its membership to get in the giving spirit by partnering with Go RVing Canada and hosting a fooddrive event in your area to benefit a local charity of your choice," said Emily Reid, Go RVing Canada public relations director. "Go RVing Canada needs your help toassist Canadians who are most in need."

Every year, on a national level, Go RVing Canada hosts its annual campaign benefiting The Salvation Army in an effort to raise awareness on the need for foodand monetary donations during the holiday season.

Last year during the week of Christmas, Go RVing Canada donated an RV full of non-perishable food to The Salvation Army in the nation’s capital. The donationwas presented to the organization through a “CTV Morning Live” morning segment where Go RVing Canada accepted food donations from the surroundingcommunity.

This event was promoted through Facebook, Twitter and the Go RVing Canada website. The Go RVing Canada public realtions team also went around Ottawa’sByward Market, and asked local merchants for their support ahead of the event.

"This year, in an effort to encourage giving all year round, the coalition is launching the campaign in October and asking our membership to get involved at thelocal level," said Reid. "This year we want to extend the campaign to encourage the giving all year round and engage our membership by assisting them inhosting an event in their areas through the Fall and Winter seasons."

The campaign runs through Dec. 24 at locations throughout Canada. Reid said she is willing to help RV dealers plan and promote their events. She can bereached at 866.470.3528 or by e-mail at emily@impactcanada.com.

Cold Weather RVing Safety Tips

RVing doesn’t have to stop just because the summer months are gone, but there are considerations you need to keep in mind when using your RVin cold weather.

Here are some helpful tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable stay in your RV during the winter:

Seal the cracks. Identify areas where cold air could seep into your RV. Seal them using adhesive foam insulation around the door andsilicone caulk around windows, plumbing, and electrical openings.Get a battery-operated carbon monoxide detector. Test it every time you use your RV and make sure you change the batteries everytime you change your clocks for Daylight Saving Time where applicable, or every six months. Don’t use the stove to heat your RV. Make sure to turn on the range fan when cooking in your RV and leave a window cracked toallow for fresh air. Choose portable heaters wisely. Electric heaters are safe and efficient, but think carefully about where you place them. Do not putthem near curtains or any flammable item, or in a traffic area. Direct generator exhaust away from your RV. Park your vehicle so that exhaust may easily dissipate away from the RV. Do not parknext to snow banks or other obstructions that might trap exhaust, and never sleep with the generator operating. Be sure to ventilate your RV. Leave a roof vent open any time you are running your generator. This will increase ventilation and helpto reduce the level of moisture in your RV. Protect water and sewer lines. Wrap outside lines with heat tape, then encase them in foam pipe insulation. On the inside, keep atleast one faucet open slightly, as moving water is less likely to freeze. Also, leave cabinet doors open to allow heat to reach the pipesin the walls. Finally, keep your water tank full.

Pine Acres of N.B. to locate on old Farmer Clem’s site

The Farmer Clem’s location on Highway 102 in Stewiacke will soon be planted with rows of recreational vehicles.

“I think it’s a dynamite spot for any business that requires exposure,” Farmer Clem’s owner Vernon Blois said Wednesday.

He is in the process of closing the sale of a two-hectare piece of land on the former garden centre site at Exit 11 to Pine Acres RV Ltd. ofNew Brunswick for an undisclosed price.

He said Pine Acres, a family business that has two recreational vehicle outlets in New Brunswick and another on Prince Edward Island,plans to open its first Nova Scotia RV store in the spring of 2013.

“They’re anxious to start,” Blois said.

He intends to maintain the six other Farmer Clem’s locations in Nova Scotia, including the year-round Bedford Highway site.

A greenhouse at the Stewiacke location is being dismantled and will be moved to another Farmer Clem’s site, he said.

Blois, a Shubenacadie native, has been in the garden business his whole life.

He started selling garden seeds when he was 11 because he wanted to buy a bicycle, he recalled.

“It grew from there.”

Now approaching 63, he said he and his wife decided it was time to start scaling back and preparing for retirement, noting that real estateis a nest egg for many businesses.

“We felt it was time,” he said, adding that other members of his family weren’t interested in taking over the business.

The Stewiacke location took some time to sell, which Blois attributed to the global recession.

“We put it up for sale when everything went to pieces in the U.S.,” he said. “It was timing.”

Pine Acres officials declined comment pending completion of the property transaction.

You tour in recreational vehicles. Why RVs?

I’ve been using them to tour for probably 20 years. RVs are way less polluting [than tour buses] in

how much fuel they use. The buses just sit there spewing diesel. They are much more economical,

much more green. But I’ve graduated to a diesel pusher [diesel engine in the rear model] just as the

powers that be decided to make diesel more expensive then regular gas.

I love the comfort of having all the comforts of home on the road. The one I have is the fourth one

I’ve owned.

Is your RV solely a work tool or do you drive an RV for pleasure trips as well?

I wouldn’t go camping I in it. I travel for a living, so the idea of schlepping a bunch of stuff into a

beautiful area doesn’t appeal to me.

I don’t drive it. You wouldn’t want me driving that thing! The guys in the band drive it, or sometimes I

hire a driver. There’s a place for everybody. Everybody can get horizontal, have their space to relax.

Everything is self-contained. I have a fridge, a full kitchen. We’re able to keep all the health food we

need on board, so we’re not dependent on stopping at fast food places. I make chilli or gumbo at 70

miles an hour. It keeps us healthy.

It’s a wonderful way to travel.

Does your RV have a name?

This one is named the SS Queen Josephine. When my dear mother passed away several years ago, the

money she left me was what [enabled] me to buy this one. It was a big upgrade, up to about 40 feet. To

us, it’s the mothership.
