1. Sew one white and one pink gingham 1½" finished half square triangle (HST) (Shape 5) together as shown. Press seam toward pink gingham triangle. Make 144 HST units.

2. Sew one HST unit from Step 1 to opposite short sides of a white 2" x 3½" rectangle (Shape 8) together as shown to make one 2" x 6½" rectangle. Press towards HST. Make 72 units.

3. Sew one white and one aqua (cut from Charm Pack) 1½"

finished HST (Shape 5) together as shown. Press seams toward aqua HST. Make 144 HST units.

4. Sew 2—1½" finished HSTs from Step 3 together as shown

to make one 2" x 3½" rectangle. Press seams toward aqua triangle. Make 72 units.

5. Sew two matching units from Step 4 together to make a 3½" unfinished pinwheel. Press the seams towards the aqua HST and spin the center points on the back. Make 36 units.

6. Sew one white 2" x 3½" rectangle to opposite sides of

pinwheel from Step 5 as shown to make one 3½" x 6½" unfinished rectangles. Press seams toward rectangles. Make 36 units.

7. Sew one unit from Step 2 to opposite sides of one unit from

Step 6 as shown to make one 6½" unfinished block. Press seams open. Make 36 blocks from a variety of Charm Pack HSTs.

Assemble the Quilt Top

1. Lay out blocks in six rows of six adding sashing and cornerstones as shown. Sew the horizontal rows first. Press seams toward the sashing. Pin and sew rows together. Pressing seams towards the sashing.

2. Add 3½" borders to quilt center. Sewing to right and left side first. Press seams towards borders. Then add top and bottom borders. Press toward borders.

Quilting and Finishing

1. Layer batting between quilt top and backing. 2. Pin or baste layers together. 3. Quilt as desired. 4. Add binding, mitering corners.

Blue: Border Corner Half Square Triangles

3 Cut 2—4¾" x 4" rectangles and place on die. Sub cut into 4 half square triangles (HSTs).

Blue: Chisel Corners

Cut 2—5¼" x width of fabric (WOF) strips. Fanfold into 3" widths. Sub cut into 104 HSTs.

Blue: Border Chisel Cut 64 chisels: Cut 2—6¼" x WOF strips. Cut 32 chisels with wrong side of fabric facing up and 32 chisels with right side of fabric facing up. This will create 32 each mirror image chisels. You can also cut the mirror image chisels in the following manner: Cut 2—6¼" x WOF strip. Fanfold 4 layers at a time into 2½" widths. Separate the mirror image chisels as you cut to assure that you have the correct number of each shape.

Light Fabric: Block Chisel

Cut 104 chisels: Cut 4—6¼" x WOF strips. Cut all chisels with the wrong side of fabric facing up. Place 4-6 layers of fabric on die. It is easiest to cut the WOF strip in half and layer four strips on top of each other with the right and wrong sides of fabric facing the same direction. Advance the strip as each layer of four is cut.

Light Fabric: Border Chisel

Cut 64 chisels: Cut 2—6¼" x WOF strips. Cut 32 chisels with wrong side of fabric facing up and 32 chisels with right side of fabric facing up. This will create 32 each mirror image chisels. You can also cut the mirror image chisels in the following manner: Cut 2—6¼" x WOF strip. Fanfold 4 layers at a time into 2½" widths. Separate the mirror image chisels as you cut to assure that you have the correct number of each shape.

Sewing Directions: Press all seams open and use ¼” seams, unless otherwise indicated.

Fun Flower Machine Embroidery Block (Make 12 Fun Flower Blocks)

1. Rotary cut 8" x 8" background squares for machine embroidery. Squares will be cut down to 6½" x 6½" square after machine embroidery is complete.

2. Select embroidery designs for the Fun Flower. You may use a single design as was used in the example quilt or use a combination of the embroidery designs.

3. Follow instructions in the machine embroidery design set for completing machine

embroidery.

4. When all embroidery designs are complete, center the design on the background square and trim the quilt block to 6½" x 6½".

Rick Rack Block (Make 13 Blocks)

1. Sew one blue half square triangle (HST) (Shape 5) to one light fabric chisel (Shape 9) as shown. Press seams to dark fabric. Make 104 chisel units.

2. Make 52 quarter block chisel units. Stitch assembled chisels together as shown in diagram. Press seams to one side.

3. Make 26 half block chisel units. Assemble half block units by stitching quarter units together. Press seams to one side.

4. Make 13 Rick Rack Blocks. Stitch half block units together as shown. Press seams so that they rotate in the same direction on the back of the block and seams “swirl” open in the center.

Rick Rack Quilt Border (Make 32 Blocks)

1. Sew one blue and one light fabric chisel (Shape 9)

together as shown to make 32 right chisel units. Press seams toward the dark fabric.

2. Sew one blue and one light fabric chisel (Shape 9) together as shown to make 32 left chisel units. Press seams toward the dark fabric.

3. Each border block is made up of two chisel units. Sew assembled chisel units together as shown in diagram. Press all of the right chisel unit seams upward and all of the left chisel unit seams downward so that seams will nest when the blocks are stitched together. Make a total of 32 border blocks.

4. Sew one blue and one light fabric half square triangle (HST) (Shape 3)

together as shown. Make 4 HST units for border corners.

5. Stitch eight blocks together end to end to make four border units.

Assemble Quilt Blocks for Center of Quilt

1. Lay out blocks as shown in five rows of five blocks each.

2. Pin and sew blocks into rows alternating Rick Rack Blocks and machine embroidery Fun Flower Blocks. Press seams towards machine embroidery blocks.

3. Pin and sew

rows together to complete the inner quilt top.

Add Borders

Inner Blue Border

1. Cut fabric for vertical and horizontal 3½" blue borders using the cutting instructions on page 3.

2. Stitch the inner border to the sides of the quilt first. Pin carefully, easing quilt top as needed to fit the border.

3. Stitch the inner border to the top and bottom of the quilt. Again, pin carefully, easing

quilt top as needed to fit the border.

4. Press seam allowances to the inner border.

Pieced Chisel Borders

1. Stitch two of the pieced chisel borders to the sides of the quilt as shown. Pin carefully, easing quilt top as needed to fit the border.

2. Stitch a corner HST unit to either end of the remaining two pieced borders. Pin borders carefully to the quilt easing quilt top as needed to fit the border.

3. Press seam allowances toward the inner border.

Outer Borders

1. Stitch the 2½" width of fabric strips together with a bias seam or end to end, according to your preference.

2. Cut the vertical and horizontal 2½" borders according to the cutting instructions on

page 3.

3. Stitch the outer border to the sides of the quilt first. Pin carefully, easing top as needed to fit the border.

4. Stitch the outer border to the top and bottom of the quilt. Again, pin carefully, easing

quilt top as needed to fit the border.

5. Press seam allowances toward the outer border.

Sewing Directions: Press all seams open and use ¼” seams, unless otherwise indicated. Cat Block

1. Remove the paper from the back of the cat appliqué shape. Center the Calico Cat onto the off-white 6" finished square (Shape 1) and press with a hot iron. Once you have made the first one, lay another off-white background square on top of the cat block and then looking thru the fabric or flipping the top layer to peek underneath, lay another cat on top of this one and press flat, then remove this block, but keep the first block on the ironing board and use as a “template” for the rest. Repeat with remaining 14 blocks.

2. Button hole stitch around each Calico Cat in either black or matching thread color. Keep the needle down when pivoting around curves and sharp corners.

Alternate Triangle Block

1. Sew one red and one blue 6" finished quarter square triangle (QST) (Shape 4) together as shown. Make 15 QST units.

2. Sew one black 6" finished half square triangle (HST)

(Shape 3) to long edge of QST unit. Make 15 blocks.

Assemble the Quilt Top

1. Lay out blocks as shown.

2. Pin and sew blocks into rows alternating between Cat Blocks and Alternate Triangle Blocks. Press seams toward the Cat Blocks.

3. Pin and sew rows together,

nesting all seams of Cat Blocks and Alternate Triangle Blocks.

Add Borders to Assembled Quilt Top Inner Border

1. Cut fabric for inner borders using the GO! Strip Cutter-2½" (2" Finished) (55017 or 55014).

2. Measure vertically along both sides and vertically through the middle of the quilt top. Take all three measurements, average them and cut the 2½" strip the length of the average measurement.

3. Pin and stitch the vertical borders to the right and left sides of the quilt top, easing as necessary. Press seams toward the border.

4. Measure horizontally along the top and bottom and the middle of the quilt top. Take

all three measurements, average them and cut the 2½" strip the length of the average measurement.

5. Pin and stitch the horizontal borders to the top and bottom of the quilt top, easing as

necessary. Press seams toward the border.

Outer Border

1. The outer border is cut using the GO! Strip Cutter-3½" (55032). Measure the width and height of the quilt with the inner borders added. Cut four or five strips from the width of fabric (WOF) and based on the measurement of the width and height of the quilt. If the width and height of the quilt are greater than the measurement of the WOF, piece the cut 3½" strips as needed.

2. Sew the blue 3" finished squares (Shape 2) to the top and bottom border strips.

3. Sew the side border strips to the sides of the quilt. Press seams toward the Inner Border.

5. Sew the top and bottom border strips to the top and bottom of the quilt. Press seams toward the Inner Border.

Quilting and Finishing

1. Layer quilt top with batting and backing.

2. Pin or baste layers together.

3. Quilt as desired.

4. Attach binding, mitering the corners.
