for Defence Officers. The comprehensive

programme prepares the participant officers for

corporate career. Potential and dedication of these

officers is reflected in India's territorial integrity

and sovereignty. They have already used various

management principles and practices in their

work. Now, in last six months, they have been

trained to adapt to corporate culture, nuances and

practices. Through core courses and various

electives, we have imparted knowledge in all

"Without tools, learning is incomplete. While any institute

can claim excellence, only IIM Lucknow can stand by its

claim of being one of the premier institutes of management

studies in the region. This institute provides its students and

faculty all the requisite facilities to help in their quest for

knowledge.

The sprawling campus of the Institute is of about 200 acres of

land. Set amidst a sprawling area of 200 acres, IIM Luck now

is a fully residential institute, offering housing capabilities for

500 students and 75 faculties. "Gyanodaya"- the home of learning. The library of IIM Lucknow

characterizes what the institute stands for - accessibility, vision and excellence. This spacious 30,000

square foot two storied library is a repository of knowledge both historical and current. Students can use

this 24 hr facility to cement the knowledge they have gained

by gaining an insight of its implementation. The Computer

Centre is housed in a spacious 15,000 sq. ft., two floored, air

conditioned, centrally located and functionally designed

building and is equipped with the state-of-the-art computing

resources to cater to the needs of the academic as well as the

administrative activities of the Institute. All buildings

including the hostels, i.e the Faculty Block, the Academic

Block, the Computer Centre and the Library are connected

through a fast ethernet-switched network.

Defence officers gear up for corporate

TIMES NEWS NETWORK 19 FEB 2008Army officers set to capture corporate world

Lucknow: The Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow (IIM-L) On Tuesday 18 Feb 2008 started a six-month special management programme for defence officers of India.Sixty-five officers from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have been enrolled for the programme. “They have the tenacity and experience of managing people and situations beyond the imagination of many of us. They surely have it in them to leave mark on corporate India,” P.P. Dasgupta, vice president (human resources), Raymond Limited, said.

Lucknow: With a mission to 'capture' the corporate world, as many as 65 officers of the Indian armed forces on Tuesday set out on a journey to equip themselves with the 'weaponry' required to accomplish their task. Selected for the general management programme (GMP) for the defence officers, these dare devils will stay in the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, (IIM-L) for the next six months to pursue the MBA programme. This will prepare them for a new battlefield — careers in the corporate sector after their retirement. Started at the initiative of directorate resettlement,

ministry of defence, the two-year business administration postgraduate programme (PGP) has been encapsulated by IIM-L experts into a six-month specially designed MBA certificate programme. Drawn from various divisions of navy, army and air force, the 65-strong contingent which arrived at IIM-L campus this year included nine female officers. This is the third GMP programme of IIML. While 48 officers enrolled for this programme in 2006, 60 came in 2007.

Lucknow, the “Golden city of the east” is the capital city of Uttar Pradesh and is popularly called the “City

of Nawabs and Kababs.” Though it is rapidly modernising, it has still kept its past glory and is known for its

cultural refinement. The imperialistic splendor and magnificence of the Nawabi era has been glorified and

eulogized down the ages by writers, poets and historians alike. At the same time its mystical elegance and

amorous ethos has caught the fascination of many world famous romantics.

Known for its adab and Tehzeeb (cultural refinement), Lucknow is also associated with its legendary

hospitality, leisurely moods of life, fabled edifices steeped in history, world renowned cuisine and

exquisite Sham-e- Awadh. The city offers plenty of places of historical interest to tourists. The popular Parsi

theatre originated from the Urdu theatre, and the Tabla and Sitar were first heard on the streets of Lucknow.

Tremors of time have not effaced Lucknow of its cultural heritage and traditions, which once contributed

in creating the city incomparable in its times.

The main places of interest are Bara Imambara , Chatter Manzil, Bhul Bhulaiaya, Clock Tower, Jama

Masjid, Moti Mahal, Rumi Darwaza, Shahid Smarak, State Museum.
