Create Access Codes with Site License

Access Codes with a Site License: (for Access Codes with a Seat License go to slide 11)

Access Codes are created by the GMetrix Administrator and distributed to students. You may create unique Access Codes for individual students, entire classes, or entire program participants. You may find that a unique Access Code per class makes reporting easier.

1. Number of Codes - Select “Multiple User“2. Identifier - This allows you to quickly identify code(s) you’ve created. If your

school has multiple teachers using GMetrix, it’s recommend to include your initials at the beginning of the identifier (e.g. LTBlk1).

3. # of Students - Choose a number that is slightly more than the number of students in your class(es) (e.g. add 10).

4. # of Uses – Leave default. 5. Expires after – Leave default.6. Tests – Check the box(es) next to the practice tests you’d like your students to

access. 1. Uncheck “All Tests”2. Check the suite of Microsoft Office software you have installed (e.g.

Microsoft Office 2016). This defaults to allow students to access all applications within your Office suite.

7. Click “Next”8. Confirm settings – Review the settings you’ve selected, and click “Next” to

create your Access Code.

“Core Skill Review” tests support the mastery of specific skills and reinforces knowledge in a question format exam. Students complete tasks before going to the next question.

“Project Review” (2016 Office Suite only) consist of one single application projects that give students a real-world example of using Microsoft Office.

“Core Practice” exams in project format that simulate the certification exam.

GMetrix Practice Tests can be in either “Training” mode or “Testing” mode. Training mode enables a help feature when students need step-by-step support on a skill and disables the countdown timer. Testing mode simulates a certification test environment by disabling any help features and the test is timed.

Review and edit your Access Codes, as needed.

• Core Practice exams have all applications are checked, by default, within an Office suite. You can uncheck an application or suite to make it unavailable for students.

• Skill Review practice tests must have all exams checked within the application for the practice tests to function correctly.

Create Access Codes with Seat License

Access Codes are created by the Administrator and distributed to students. You have a GMetrix Seat License, which means you may only create the number of Access Codes that matches the number of your Seat License (e.g. 10 Access Codes for a 10 Seat License) The number of Seat License you have is also the number of students that can access GMetrix at any given time (e.g. 25 Seat License for 25 students using GMetrix at the same time).

All Seat Licenses include one additional code for teacher use.

From the GMetrix Administrator homepage, click the blue “Create” button under “Access Codes”.

Click on the edit (pencil) icon to the right of the license.

GMetrix Best Practices

GMetrix is a flexible practice and remediation tool. Integrate it into your classes based on your class and teaching style. Items to think about:

• Do you want to separate your reporting by classes? Create multiple Access Codes.• Do you want to use this tool as a skill check before students take the certification exam? Use the Skill

Review practice tests in testing mode, then have students create a new test with “Review Missed Questions”. Use one, or all, of the review projects at the start and end of each Office application you unit. The Practice Exams should be used right before the certification test to familiarize the student with the testing environment.

• Do you need flexibility to test after skill sets are taught? Create customized exams.• Do you want to implement a pre-test assessment and post-test assessment? Choose one Review Project

or Practice Exam in testing mode, then change the test to training mode from the Access Code.• Do you want to use GMetrix as a grading tool? Create customized exams in testing format and add and

remove the custom exam from your Access Code(s) according to your lesson plans.• Once you know how you want to integrate GMetrix in your lesson plans, begin building out your Access

Codes and customized exams.
