RESEARCH ENGROSSMENT Broad subject : Structural Biology and Bio-Computing

Area of Specialization : Small and Macro Molecule X-ray Crystallography

Current Research focus

Prof. J. Jeyakanthan has been concentrating on three major thrust areas such as

Structural Biology, Computer Aided Drug Design and Bio-Computing. He has 23 years of

Research experience and been mainly focusing to unravel the Structural and Functional aspects

of important proteins from model organisms Thermus thermophilus HB8, Pyrococcus horikoshii

OT3 and Aquifex aeolicus VF5 that remain unanswered. Additionally, enzymes that control

purine and pyrimidine levels are also been studied. Furthermore, identification of drug leads

through computational screening against life-threatening diseases such as TB, Filariasis, Cancer,

Diabetes, Chikunguinaya, Dengue, Malaria and nosocomial infection. The identified potential

leads will be evaluated by in vitro studies.
