Growing in Awareness of Laudata Si' On Care of Our Common Home

Presented by Biagio Mazza

In Laudato Si', Pope Francis calls us back to our basic re-sponsibility to carry out our mission as partners with God in caring for our common home. How have we carried out that mission? What needs to be done to ensure that crea-tion not only is viable and hospitable for us today but for all those who will come after us.

Biago will present the basic outline and thrust of this signifi-cant encyclical by exploring Pope Francis' assessment of how we are carryout out our responsibility to care for our common home.

Enjoy Your Summer

Mass Intentions

Our prayer support is with …

Art Westhues and family in the sudden death of Art’s 33 year old nephew Michael Lackland.

May the healing hand of our Lord Jesus be felt by all who are coping with grief

and missing loved ones.

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity. This feast summarizes who we are as Catholics/ Christians. We believe in a God who has revealed Himself to us in a relationship − of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

God our Creator sent His Son, Jesus into our world as a human being to experience everything we ex-perience as individuals. And God has given us the power of the Holy Spirit, God's presence within us. Every time we pray, every time we enter Church, and begin and end our Liturgy, the Sign of the Cross is prominent.

May this feast help us reflect on the relationships in our own lives ̶ and be grateful for the presence of God within us and among us.

I Hope the summer is off to a good start, or at least a new routine − realizing that sports and family ac-tivities occupy so much of our time. But hopefully it's an opportunity to enjoy the outside and a little change of pace!

Thanks to all who are so very faithful to your build-ing pledge each and every month. Because of your faithfulness, we are getting very excited about our breaking ground within the next year! As always, the cost of construction climbs, but hopefully we'll have 50% of the cost (cash on hand) by next Spring.

Thanks for being such good and faithful stewards. You'll be hearing more about our exciting building plans and designs as it gets closer to Fall!

May you and your families know God's Blessings this summer!

Peace, Fr. Mike

Someone is Watching and Wondering

The fifty days of Easter came to an end last Sunday as we celebrated Pentecost and the Birth of the Church. Today we begin Summer/Ordinary time, followed by Fall/Ordinary time and the end of the liturgical year on December 2nd. It may seem like Ordinary time is truly ordinary, but in fact it is during these weeks that the special character of Sunday is experienced; there are no special themes to distract from the wonder of the original meaning of Sunday as the Lord’s Day. It is also during this period of counted time that we celebrate four Solemnities of the Lord, Trinity Sunday or the So-lemnity of the Trinity, the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi), the Feast of the Sacred Heart, and Christ the King. Today is the first of these solemnities, Trinity Sunday.

The doctrine of the Trinity evolved in the 4th and 5th centuries when the Arian heresy, which denied that Je-sus was equal to God, swept through the church. Be-fore the year 1000, a special feast devoted to the Trin-ity was celebrated in the Frankish kingdom on the Sun-day following Pentecost and was promulgated for the universal church by Pope John XXII in 1334.

There are two traditions associated with the Trinity: the Sign of the Cross, popular since the early centuries, with the Trinitarian formula “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen,” and the doxology an ancient prayer, first used in the Eastern Church, “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.” The concluding words, “As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end, Amen,” were added in the 4th century and was intro-duced in the Western Church in the 5th century. There are also many symbols used for the Trinity. One that is most often depicted in art and first used in the 6th cen-tury is an old man (father), a young man (son) and a dove (the Holy Spirit). Other common symbols include arrangements of three, eg. three interlocking circles.

Just for fun this week, look around church, your home, in nature, or search trademarks for examples of sym-bols for the Holy Trinity. See how many you find; they are everywhere.

Your Sister in Christ, Sandy Gagnon

A from the Liturgy/Music Office

Today's Psalm - Daniel 3 Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers,

praiseworthy and exalted above all forever; And blessed is your holy and glorious name,

praiseworthy and exalted above all for all ages.

Blessed are you in the temple of your holy glory, praiseworthy and glorious above all forever.

Blessed are you on the throne of your kingdom,

praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.

Blessed are you who look into the depths from your throne upon the cherubim,

praiseworthy and exalted above all forever.

Reflection

This Canticle (psalm) found in the third chapter of the Book of Daniel is a magnificent hymn

in praise of God’s transcendent glory.

Sung by the three young men condemned to the fiery furnace for their fidelity to the God of Israel,

the Canticle evokes the holiness and power of the Creator, who dwells among his people

in his holy temple in Jerusalem.

This prophetic celebration of God’s closeness to his People

prefigures the coming of the Son of God, who in the fullness of time

“took flesh and dwelt among us.”

In her Liturgy the Church in every age takes up this song of gratitude

for God’s merciful love, which guides all history to its appointed end.

Forever Grateful, Danny Baker

Pop Tab Collection Program For Ronald McDonald House

We recently received this note from the Ronald McDonald House. "Thank you for

supporting the families we assist with your thoughtful do-nation. Our goal is to keep families close and comfortable when dealing with the trauma of a sick child. Gifts like yours help us provide that assistance."

You can help support the Ronald McDonald House by collecting the little tabs you pull to open soda, beer, soup or other aluminum cans.

The funds generated from recycling these aluminum gems help offset the House's expenses. Collecting tabs can be an easy and fun project.

Tabs can be dropped off in the basket on the table in the Narthex.

6th-12th Grade Youth Ministry Our Faith In Action

Important Dates June

Sunday - 11th- Youth Group 7pm-8:30pm

Sunday - 18th- No Youth Group- Father's Day

Sunday - 25th- Youth Group 7pm-8:30pm

This weekend, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, gives us a chance to reflect on ways to

LIVE OUT THE TRINITY.

Unity, Community, and Equality Unity: They are three distinct persons yet they are one in essence. We are distinct individuals from various backgrounds, levels, ideas and dispositions. However we are united in one Christian community. Our diver-sity should be at the service of a functional unity be-cause as Paul would say, in Christ our diversities give way to unity. Community: There is no time the Father works with-out the Son and the Holy Spirit. That is why you will hear the Father saying twice “Let us”. Our Lord Jesus would also attest that he does whatever he sees the Father doing. We should learn to work together as members of the same community. No one is an Island. We need each other for growth and development. Equality: In the Godhead there is absolute equality given the fact that they have one essence. Within our human experience we all share in one humanity but often we notice that we keep creating unjustifiable bar-riers of inequality between the “haves” and the “have nots”. Often some people see others as less human than they are. From the Trinity we learn to see our-selves as equals sharing the common gift of life given to us by God.

We are looking at going on a Youth Group Day to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun. This will only be able to happen if we have enough chaperones.

We are considering a couple differ-ent dates: June 20th or July 27th. If you are interested please let me know which date works best for you. Thanks!

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! July 7th - 7 pm Cost: FREE

Last year we tried out this "interactive movie" thing with The Sound of Music. I'll be honest, I thought it was something that only families who enjoy being silly or maybe especially musical families would like. Was I ever wrong! Even the musically challenged like myself had a blast! This isn't just one of those old fogey "let's all sing along to this" type things. It's an interac-tive movie, so not only do we sing along with the songs, we also react to what's happening on screen. We have goodie bags for each attendee with the props that you'll need to play along, and Danny Baker will be there to help lead us in singing. Your kids will love it and you'll make great memories!

We'll also have a costume contest (WITH PRIZES) for anyone who would like to dress up as their favorite character. I was extremely impressed last year with the creativity and style of quite a few of our parish-ioners! It's a ton of fun, so mark July 7th on your calendars so that you can join us!
