The necessity for regular purification of electrical insulating fluids has been recognised for a very long time. Moisture, solids and gaseous contaminants can seriously affect the function of electrical insulating fluids as a coolant and insulator.

1. General

Purifiers are designed to process transformer oil in workshops or in the field, in storage tanks, drums or directly in transformers.

Purification of oil in transformers can be carried out off-load or on-load depending on customer’s preference.

For purification of oil in the field, a mobile type purification plant, mounted on a roadworthy trailer is recommended.

• Design, fabrication and factory testing of Transformer Oil Purification Plant.

• Equipment will be mounted on a common base or in a trailer and supplied in the form of a pre-piped and pre-wired package

• Single Pass Performance at a full flow rate shall be as follows:-

Water Removal - From 50 ppm down to less than 5 ppm in a single pass and down to 3 ppm after two passes as measured by the ASTM Method D1533

Gas Removal - From fully saturated with air (10 to 12% by volume) down to less than 0.3% by volume as measured by the ASTM Method D-2945

Particulate Matter Removal - 98% of particles over 5 μm

Dielectric Strength - Improvement in dielectric strength up to 65 kV.

Oil is pumped through mesh and coarse filters into vacuum chamber by oil pump, where it is

heated to operation temperature by oil heater. In the vacuum chamber, by vacuum distillation,

water, dissolved air and gases and other volatile contaminants are removed. The processed oil is returned by discharge pump from the vacuum chamber to the transformer or storage tank

through the fine filter as purified oil.

Instrumentation and electrical controls are located in a dust proof enclosure. A mimic panel is provided for the convenience of the operator showing the functions of

the main components of the plant by way of pilot lights. Purifier systems that are provided with full automation

are also provided with a manual override of various functions as standard. Even with manual override vital

plant protection such as oil overflow remain operational.

Standard instrumentation and controls comprise of:

Temperature Controller, Vacuum Indicator, Pressure Gauges,Vacuum Gauge and Level Control, Pump’s

“Start” buttons and Indicating lights.

7. Automatic Control

Automatic control is provided by Schneider Selio Relay or plc units, programmed in function block diagram (FBD) or ladder logic

8. Moisture Measurement

The MMT162 incorporates the latest generation of the Vaisala HUMICAP®Sensor. The sensor is developed for demanding moisture measurement in liquid hydrocarbons and has been successfully used in oil applications for over a decade. The sensor’s excellent chemical tolerance provides accurate and reliable measurement over the measurement range.

• Mobile Installation Unit is mounted on a roadworthy trailer. Access to the machinery is through two side doors.

• Portable Installation Similar to mobile installation, two swivel and two fixed castors are used to move the purifier around the factory floor.

Obligation under this warranty is limited to repairing or furnishing without charge a part similar to the part which is proven to be defective within the warranty period.
