The Global Economy

Globalization is the process by which national economies, politics, cultures, and societies become integrated with those of other nations around the world.The Global EconomyInterdependence increases with globalization and is the mutual dependence of countries on goods, resources, labor, and knowledge from other parts of the world.

The Global Economy

Outsourcing is the practice of sending work to companies in the developing world in order to save money or increase efficiency.

The Global EconomyThe World Trade Organization is an international organization set up to facilitate global trade. It oversees the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT). That helps lower tariffs and expands free trade.

The Global EconomyWorld wide children suffer terrible abuses. As of April, 2013, according to the UN: The United Nations Children's Fund says that more than a quarter of children under age 5 worldwide are permanently "stunted" from malnutrition, leaving them physically and intellectually weak and prone to early death.1 out of 4 children world wide suffer the effects of extreme poverty, armed conflict and AIDS and are the targets of human rights violations. In some nations, they are force to serve as soldiers and slaves.In 1989, the UNGA approved the Convention of the Rights of the Child. This sets standards for basic rights for children including the right to life, liberty, education and healthcare. These rights cannot be ensured in many cases.

The Global EconomyIn developing countries, children between the ages of 5 and 14 do not attend school, they work full time in dangerous, unhealthy conditions for little pay. Many are abused by their employers and essentially enslaved.

The Global EconomyOPEC The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries Established in 1960.Members include many Middle Eastern countries including Saudi Arabia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, the UAE and Venezuela (in Latin America)Goal is to set the supply and price of oil on the world market.

The Global EconomyCertain countries in OPEC would like to gain more money and influence so they can obtain nuclear weapons.Nuclear Proliferation is growth or spread of nuclear weapons to nations that do not currently have them.

The Global EconomyWeapons of Mass Destruction are those which cause mass destruction. They include nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons and kill thousands, even millions of people.

The Global EconomyIn 2003 when he refused to let UN inspectors check to see if he was developing WMDs, Saddam Husseins Iraq was invaded and his government was toppled by a coalition led by the US and Great Britain.

The Global EconomyCyberterrorism is any politically motivated attack on information systems.

The Global EconomyInternational terrorism is the use of force or threats to frighten people or to force governments to change their policies.

Bioterrorism- Terrorism through the use of biological warfare.

Counterterrorism- Political or military activities designed to prevent or thwart terrorism.

Religious terrorism- Terrorizing someone for their religious beliefs.

Separatist Terrorism- Terrorism from within a country in an attempt to establish a new state.

Nacroterrorism- Attempting to terrorize through the use of drug and sex trafficking.

Nuclear terrorism- Terrorism used with the help of nuclear weapons.

Eco terrorism- Terrorism used to help destroy the environment.
