LV SWITCHGEARUL offers multiple means to enable manufacturers to demonstrate to Regulators, Consultants and End users that LV Switchgear supplied is designed, built, independently tested / evaluated and continually certified to the requirements of the standard as well as to additional performance specifications demanded by different markets and buyers.

The IEC 61439 standard requires manufacturers (OEM’s and Assemblers) to demonstrate Type compliance to IEC 61439 by Evaluation of Switchgear Assemblies in line with Annex D of IEC 61439-1:2011.

UL Type Examination Certificate

This is an ISO Guide 65/67 Type 1a Certification scheme demonstrating that the submitted (type) design is independently evaluated and covers the following services:

• UL qualified staff evaluate the test laboratory as per ISO / IEC 17025 guidelines, ILAC accreditation requirements and additional requirements of UL’s Data Acceptance Program (DAP)

• Under UL’s Witness Test Data Program (WTDP) a qualified staff member acts as the Evaluator (planner and observer) for all points of the Type Examination (Formulation of test plan in accordance with the applicable IEC standard, completion of construction evaluation, type testing or equivalent, and completion of test report

• Another qualified staff member acts as a Reviewer during finalization of test plan, validation of test data, completion of the examination and report, including the signature on the Type Examination Summary

• The Test Report is processed by the Certification Office (UL Denmark / DEMKO), after which the UL Type Examination Certificate is issued in both electronic and original formats

• Certificate Numbers may be validated by writing to [email protected]

UL is designated by the IEC EE (IEC System for Conformity testing and Certification of Electrotechnical Equipment and Components) as a National Certification Body (NCB) under the IEC CB Scheme (Approved Certification Body to issue IEC CB Scheme Certificates). The CB Scheme is based on the use of CB Test Certificates which provide evidence that representative specimens of the product have successfully passed type tests to show compliance with the requirements of the relevant IEC standard.

The IEC 61439 series has been adopted by the European Electrotechnical standardization body, CENELEC (as the EN 61439 series), thus presenting a harmonization system for meeting additional European specific requirements. The UL Type Examination Certificate can be combined with the IEC CB Scheme Certificate if tested under the WMT / SMT data acceptance requirements of the IEC CB Scheme.

UL Certification Mark to IEC Standards

The UL Classification Mark is an ISO Guide 65/67 Type 5 scheme that gives the opportunity to a manufacturer to demonstrate continued compliance to the Type Examination requirements of the IEC 61439 standard group with the benefit of real time online listing on the UL Online Certifications Directory. This offers the highest level of integrity and compliance in the market for switchgear assemblies.

• The UL Type Examination program rules apply for the evaluation and issue of Test Reports, Type Examination Certificates, and Type Examination Summarys

• All critical components must be independently third party certified to comply with applicable IEC product standards as evidenced by the Certification Mark of a recognized Certification body. Test data must be made available as generated under UL’s DAP program requirements

• Selection and design of sections and functional units are controlled modifications are allowed only as specifically described in the certification program documents

• Panel Labels with a copyrighted Mark must be procured with a serial number from UL’s Label Center only

• An additional Certificate of Compliance (CoC) is issued by UL LLC, US with a unique File Number that is traceable at www.ul.com/database

• Can be combined with the IEC CB Scheme if issued as per IECEE guidelines

North American Installation Code and Compliance Requirements

The North American market, especially the US, Canada and Mexico, have fundamental infrastructural differences. This is due to fundamental differences in Voltages, fault levels, frequency and wiring techniques. The National Electrical Code (NEC), which is the most widely adopted Electrical Code in the US, provides installation and wiring practices for the US.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires an NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) such as UL to test and certify assemblies to indicate compliance with the appropriate American National (ANSI) product standards. The UL Listing Mark is the most widely accepted NRTL Mark across regulators (AHJ’s) and consultants and

indicates that the assemblies meet the minimum Thermal, Fire and Electrical hazard SAFETY requirements as specified by the appropriate ANSI standards. Conformity Assessment is performed to ANSI standards. ANSI standards are developed by various Standard Development Organizations (SDOs) such as UL, IEEE, NEMA, NFPA etc.

Enhanced UL Certification Mark

As a further development of the classic Listing and Classification Marks, UL now offers the enhanced UL Certification Mark, which anticipates the future needs and evolving nature of product safety. The enhanced UL Certification Mark:

• enables companies to bundle multiple certifications for multiple geographies into one single Mark

• serves as a unique identifier that provides more details on the scope of certification for a particular product

• allows for growth and inclusion of new types of certifications

As UL implements a gradual transition to the enhanced Mark, all currently existing versions of UL’s Listing and Classification Marks will remain valid and continue to be accepted as an indication of UL certification.
