Global Surgery Rotation Hyderabad, India University of Nebraska Medical Center Basavatarakam Indo-American Cancer Hospital Course Dates: February 2020 Course Description: This four-week course is an immersion into the India health-care system with onsite exposure to oncologic surgical care at various hospitals in the city of Hyderabad, Telangana, India and other hospitals in the states of Telangana and Andhra. The focus of the rotation is two-fold. One being the intra-operative experience with exposure to a myriad of oncologic surgical procedures including, but not limited to, neurosurgery head and neck, breast, pul- monary/thoracic, hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB), gynecologic, urologic and colo- rectal. Second, students will also have time available for additional travel and cul- tural experiences as a means of developing a broader and global perspective of health care and human beings critical for physicians-in-training. Program Director: Chandrakanth Are, MBBS Chandrakanth Are is JL & CJ Varner Professor of Surgical Oncology & Global Health as well as the As- sociate Dean of Graduate Medical Education (DIO) and Vice Chair of Education, Department of Surgery. Program Coordinator: Sara Pirtle, MBA Sara Pirtle is the Program Manager of International Health & Medical Education at the University of Ne- braska Medical Center. Requirements: Open to M4 students Targeted number of participants per course: 4-6 Cost: Approximately $5000 (Cost includes airfare, housing, food, vaccines, visa, travel insurance @ $1.58/day, $100 global health program fee, and miscellane- ous expenses.
