BE THE CHANGEJR’s TED Prize Wish: the Inside Out Project

City, Country (DATE, 2012) — When TED Prize winner, JR, announced his wish to turn the world “Inside Out,” inviting people around the globe to share a photo portrait along with a statement about what they stand for, many countries, cities and individuals around the world responded. Seeing the global response, the Inside Out Group Action leaders in Athens and Juarez decided to unite in a global action called BE THE CHANGE.

We find ourselves at a very interesting crossroads. During this time of accelerated globalization and rapid changes in our environment, people in countries around the world are being affected in different ways. Now, more than ever, we have a responsibility to share the human stories that unite us as world citizens.

Via JR’s Inside Out Project, we are joining forces with countries around the world to bring awareness to the issues we want to change, as well as inspire creative solutions to make these changes possible. It is time for us as co-producers, artists and global citizens to engage in a dialogue to help reorganize systems of urban interaction and challenge the existing frameworks. We believe this change must come from within each individual in order for us to move forward collectively and bring about positive change worldwide.

We invite the growing silent majority to be part of this “global ex-change” by becoming more globally conscious and proactive in their daily lives. On DATE (i.e. Day of Peace), the world will unite through the exchange of portraits from country to country which will not only create a mosaic of faces, but an ongoing collaborative dialogue, using art and communication as catalysts for social change.

There are X# of participating cities and countries, including Amsterdam (The Netherlands), Alsace (France), Athens (Greece), Austin (Texas), Aveiro (Portugal), Brisbane (Australia), Cape Town (South Africa), Casablanca (Morocco), Guyana, Hanoi (China), (Japan), Juarez (Mexico), Lima (Peru), Madrid (Spain), Mumbai (India), Nairobi (Kenya), New York (USA), Nicosea (Cyprus), Peckham (UK), Port au Prince (Haiti), City (Poland), Tel Aviv (Israel) and Tenerife Island (SPAIN).

COUNTRY TEXT- to specify their action on the ground

It is an extraordinary opportunity to join forces and engage with others around the world by adding their voices and faces to stand publicly for what they believe in. From India to New York, Japan to Tunisia, people are contributing to a global art movement.

About the Inside Out ProjectThe Inside Out Project is a large-scale participatory art project that transforms messages of personal identity into pieces of artistic work. Everyone is challenged to use black and white photographic portraits to discover, reveal and share the untold stories and images of people around the world. These digitally

uploaded images are made into posters and sent back to the project’s co-creators, for them to exhibit in their own communities. People can participate as an individual or as part of a group. Posters can be placed anywhere, from a solitary image in an office window, to a wall of an abandoned building, or in a full stadium. These exhibitions will be documented, archived and be made available online at http://www.insideoutproject.net/.

The INSIDE OUT Project is a creation of French artist JR, the recipient of the 2011 TED Prize (watch JR's TED talk here).

About the TED PrizeThe first TED Prize was awarded in 2005, born out of the TED Conference and a vision by the world's leading entrepreneurs, innovators, and entertainers to change the world – one Wish at a time.

The reward: $100,000, the TED Community's array of talent and expertise, and the leadership of a TED Prize team led by Amy Novogratz. What began as an unparalleled experiment to leverage the resources of the TED Community to spur global change has evolved into one of the most prestigious prizes.

From Bono's the ONE Campaign ('05 recipient) to Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution ('10 recipient), the TED Prize is helping to combat poverty, take on religious intolerance, improve global health, tackle child obesity, advance education, and now inspire art around the world.
