Welcome to our third edition of the Global Forwarders Network News. In this print, we feature newly added members ready to develop mutual business for the year 2013, our latest CLN website which is an environment that will provide access to information about the CLN and will give us the opportunity to make new friends and partners.

In this edition you will also find success stories from our member, the acquisition of Balnak Logistics by Borusan Logistics as well as DLR International merges with JA Logistics. Combined Logistics Networks always looks for great opportunity for its member’s business development, and this year CLN joins Intermodal South America Exhibition on April 1 to 3, 2014 which will be held at Transamerica Expo Center, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Intermodal is the leading integrated exhibition and conference for logistics, cargo transport and international trade handling in South America.

Last May 18, 2013, I headed up to Beijing to participate at the Great Wall Marathon together with our new CLN member Aitor of Reach Logistics Guangzhou, China. The 5,164 steps of the Great Wall will put your physique to the test, and the breath taking surroundings will compete with your tired muscles for attention. Last July 21, 2013, CLN family leads The Great Bank Family Fun Run to encourage a bonding activity and leisure time for the whole family. In CLN, we believe that we should need balance in all things there is a time for work and a time for play.

After more than ten years of operation, CLN has matured into becoming a sophisticated Alliance with Global partners that, not only developed fruitful business relationships with each other but more importantly build friendships in the process. This is what global freight networking is all about!

WORK AND PLAY

These past few months we had two social activities, first is the Great Wall Marathon 2013 with Nils and Aitor Robles ([email protected]), Business Development Manager of Reach Logistics Ltd from Guangzhou, China. The 5,164 steps of the Great Wall put their body to the test and explore the world’s most astonishing sights.

Second is the CLN Manila office team joins and have fun with the Great Bank Family Run at Aseana City, Philippines last May 21, 2013. The Great Bank Family did not only promote healthy lifestyle and leisure time but it also advocates social responsibility; proceeds will fund the projects and programs of Bank Marketing Association of the Philippines (BMAP). As a team we go out every month that encourages bonding activity with colleagues and leisure time for the whole CLN family. At CLN when we work, we pull on our oars like galley slaves on adrenaline highs but we know how to play and have fun.

With this kind of activities CLN management enables the talent to work effectively and efficiently of its employees. It’s as simple as the old saying, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”

Year 2013 is a particularly special one for Advantage Worldwide (UK) Limited (AWL) as we celebrate their 10th year anniversary. These past few years has seen development from a single office operation in to a nationwide concern with full operational facilities in London, Glasgow, Manchester and Southampton all providing customised supply chain solutions on a truly global basis.

From inception the company has grown year on year and they were happy to advise that the facility in Glasgow, Scotland has set the standard in 2013 by registering record tonnage levels for the 1st half of the year with perishable exports moving out to a wide variety of destinations – they say the Scottish waters are a great breeding ground for quality produce that is in such high demand.

In July the facility in Manchester has expanded by doubling its office space to accommodate additional staff coming on board as a requirement of the continued growth we are seeing in the North West region of the UK. One particular interesting project recently undertaken by their there was to provide import brokerage, handling, UK & European distribution of all merchandise relating to the recent release of the latest Hollywood movie that is Smurfs 2, a film to be seen in a cinema near you! The successful conclusion of this project has resulted in our facility being awarded the same distribution requirements for the latest Columbia Pictures release ‘White House Down’ - we await the follow up!

AWL newest regional office is Southampton. The Port of Southampton is a major passenger and cargo port located in the central part of the south coast of the UK. It benefits from a sheltered location, unique “double tides”, close proximity to the motorway network and good rail links therefore, a very important location for the continued expansion plans that we as a company continue to drive forward with. Year 2013 has seen month on month growth with this office and expansion of the ocean freight capabilities therefore, range of services we can provide to their customers not only in this region but, UK wide.

In addition to providing conventional & project forwarding services, in 2012 AWL secured a long term contract with a footwear retailer to provide all logistics, fulfilment and inventory management services on their behalf including UK distribution to their high street retail as well as individual customers. This has further expanded in 2013 to include European and soon to be worldwide distribution as AWL’s customer enters new markets overseas. On the strength of this expansion they opened an additional 15,000 sq ft 3PL facility at Heathrow which has the capacity to store upwards of 90,000 SKU’s or Stock Keeping Units, fully supported by their bespoke computer and barcode generator systems.
