Vancouver is a coastal city located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. It is named for British

Captain George Vancouver, who explored and first mapped the area in the 1790s.

The metropolitan area is the most populous in Western Canada and the third-largest in the country, with the city

proper ranked eighth among Canadian cities. According to the 2006 census Vancouver had a population of 578,041

and just over 2.1 million people resided in its metropolitan area. Over the last 30 years, immigration has dramatically

increased, making the city more ethnically and linguistically diverse; 52% do not speak English as their first language.

Almost 30% of the city's inhabitants are of Chinese heritage.

From a logging sawmill established in 1867 a settlement named Gastown grew, around which a town site named

Granville arose. With the announcement that the railhead would reach the site, it was renamed "Vancouver" and

incorporated as a city in 1886. By 1887, the transcontinental railway was extended to the city to take advantage of its

large natural seaport, which soon became a vital link in a trade route between the Orient, Eastern Canada, and London.

Port Metro Vancouver is the new name for the Port of Vancouver, which is now the busiest and largest in Canada, as

well as the fourth largest port (by tonnage) in North America. While forestry remains its largest industry, Vancouver is

well known as an urban centre surrounded by nature, making tourism its second-largest industry. It also is the third-

largest film production centre in North America after Los Angeles and New York City, earning its film industry the

nickname Hollywood North.

Vancouver has ranked highly in worldwide "livable city" rankings for

more than a decade according to business magazine assessments and it

was also acknowledged by Economist Intelligence Unit as the first city

rank among top-ten of world's most livable cities for the five straight

years. It has hosted many international conferences and events, including

the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, the 1976 United

Nations Conference on Human Settlements, and the 1986 World

Exposition on Transportation and Communication. In 1989, the city

hosted the World Police and Fire Games, and again in 2009, the latter of

which drew the largest number of attending athletes to date. The 2010

Winter Olympics and 2010 Winter Paralympics were held in Vancouver

and nearby Whistler, a resort community 125 km (78 miles) north of the

city.

Archaeological records indicate the presence of

Aboriginal people in the Vancouver area from

8,000 to 10,000 years ago. The city is located in

the traditional territories of the Skwxwú7mesh

(Squamish), Xwméthkwyiem (Musqueam), and

Tseil-waututh (Burrard) peoples of the Coast

Salish group. They had villages in various parts of

present-day Vancouver, such as Stanley Park,

False Creek, Kitsilano, Point Grey and near the

mouth of the Fraser River.

Located on the Burrard Peninsula, Vancouver lies

between Burrard Inlet to the north and the Fraser

River to the south. Until the city's naming in 1885,

"Vancouver" referred to Vancouver Island, and it

remains a common misconception that the city is

located on the island.

At 5,335 people per km2 (13,817.6 people per mi

2) in 2006, Vancouver is the fourth most densely populated

incorporated city with a population above 500,000 in North America, after New York City, San Francisco, and

Mexico City. Urban planning in Vancouver is characterized by high-rise residential and mixed-use development in

urban centers, as an alternative to sprawl. This has been credited in contributing to the city's high rankings in

livability.

This approach originated in the late 1950s, when city planners began to encourage the building of high-rise

residential towers in Vancouver's West End, subject to strict requirements for setbacks and open space to protect sight

lines and preserve green space. The success of these dense but livable neighborhoods led to the redevelopment of

urban industrial sites, such as North False Creek and Coal Harbor, beginning in the mid-1980s. The result is a

compact urban core that has gained international recognition for its "high amenity and 'livable' development." More

recently, the city has been debating "ecodensity"—ways in which "density, design, and land use can contribute to

environmental sustainability, affordability, and livability."

In the 1980s, an influx of

immigrants from Hong Kong in

anticipation of its transfer from

the United Kingdom to China,

combined with an increase in

immigrants from mainland

China and Taiwan, established

in Vancouver one of the highest

concentrations of ethnic Chinese

residents in North America. This

arrival of Asian immigrants

continued a tradition of

immigration from around the

world that had established

Vancouver as the second-most

popular destination for

immigrants in Canada after

Toronto. In 1981, less than 7%

of the population belonged to a

visible minority group. By 2008,

this proportion had grown to

51%.

While most of the Lower Mainland is policed by the Royal Canadian Mounted

Police, Vancouver operates the Vancouver PD, with a strength of 1,174 sworn

members and an operating budget of $149 million in 2005.

Page 4 – Papeete, Tahiti – Pacific Paradise

Papeete is the capital of French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France in the Pacific Ocean. The commune

(municipality) of Papeete is located on the island of Tahiti, in the administrative subdivision of the Windward

Islands, of which Papeete is the administrative capital. The French High Commissioner also resides in Papeete. It is

the primary center of Tahitian and French Polynesian public and private governmental, commercial, industrial and

financial services, the hub of French Polynesian tourism and a commonly used Port of call. The Windward Islands

are themselves part of the Society Islands. The name Papeete means "water from a basket."

The urban area of Papeete had a total population of 131,695 inhabitants at the August 2007 census, 26,017 of whom

lived in the commune of Papeete proper.

The growth of the city was boosted by the

decision to move the nuclear weapon test

range from Algeria to the atolls of Mururoa

and Fangataufa, some 1,500 km (930 mi) at

the east of Tahiti; this originated in particular

in the construction of the Faa'a airport next

to Pape'ete, the only international airport in

French Polynesia. In 1983, The Church of

Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints built the

Papeete Tahiti Temple here because of the

large number of members in the region. On 5

September 1995 the government of Jacques

Chirac conducted the first of the last series of

nuclear test detonations off the shores of

Moruroa. A resulting riot in Papeete lasted

for two days and damaged the international

airport, injured 40 people, and scared away

tourism for some time. (Similar rioting

occurred after another French nuclear test in

the same area in 1987.) Traveling tourists arrive and depart Papeete via cruise ship at

Papeete Harbor or domestic airline at Faa'a International Airport,

which was completed and opened in 1962.

Page 6: Global Aviation - Global Air International · Page 2 – Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – West Meets Best Vancouver is a coastal city located in the Lower Mainland of British

Page 5 – Papeete, Tahiti – Pacific Paradise

Papeete features a tropical monsoon climate with a wet season and dry season. However, precipitation is observed

even during the city's dry season. The city dry season is short, covering only the months of August and September.

The rest of the year is wet, with the heaviest precipitation falling in the months of December and January.

Temperatures are relatively constant throughout the course of the year, averaging around 25 degrees Celsius (77

degrees Fahrenheit).

The name Papeete is sometimes spelled Pape’ete in Tahitian, using the apostrophe (in fact a variant of it hard to

differentiate from the regular apostrophe when using small fonts) to represent the glottal stop, as promoted by the

Académie Tahitienne and accepted by the territorial government. This apostrophe, however, is often omitted.

Tahiti is the largest island in the Windward group of French Polynesia, located in the archipelago of Society Islands

in the southern Pacific Ocean. It is the economic, cultural and political centre of French Polynesia. The island was

formed from volcanic activity and is high and mountainous with surrounding coral reefs. The population is 178,133

(2007 census), making it the most populous island of French Polynesia and accounting for 68.6% of the group's total

population. Tahiti was formerly known as Otaheite

Tahiti was originally settled by

Polynesians between AD 300 and 800.

They comprise about 70% of the island's

population with the rest made up of

Europeans, Chinese and those of mixed

heritage. The island was proclaimed a

colony of France in 1880 although it was

not until 1946 that the indigenous

Tahitians were legally authorized to be

French citizens. French is the only

official language although the Tahitian

language (Reo Tahiti) is widely spoken.

Page 6 – Pilot Information

With all of the emergencies, both man made and nature made, going on in the world today; many Pilots do not realize

just how flexible the Global Line family of airlines can be. Yes we offer tons of worldwide flight schedules, holiday

flights and freight services to all corners of the planet. We also have landing rights in more places than any other

airline in the world. Although not formally offered, we also realize that many of our Pilots are also very involved in

humanitarian efforts around the world.

ALL Global Pilots should know that they are able to bid on humanitarian flights of their choice when the issues arise.

Global Air was the first airline to bring relief aid and evacuations of American citizens from Haiti and we were the

only American flag carrying airlines to operate special A380 charter flights to evacuate Cairo, Egypt and Tripoli,

Libya. Two of our Japanese Pilots have been doing relief, evacuation and repatriation flights in Japan.

Any Pilot interested in bidding and flying

such humanitarian flights are more than

welcome to do so in three easy steps and

here is what you have to do:

1.) Create your flight plan in an

aircraft that you are qualified to

operate.

2.) File a flight bid showing aircraft

used, hours flown and in the

comments state that it is a

humanitarian flight/charter.

3.) Fly the flight and file your PIREP

stating in the comments that this is

the charter humanitarian flight you

had bid previously. Global Air B747 evacuating US citizens after Japan’s earthquake

Page 7 – Pilot Information

Humanitarian flights are open to all Global Line Pilots both Global Express Airways and Global Air International

flight crews may bid on these flights as they see fit as long as they are in a qualified aircraft. Global Express Pilots

may deadhead to a foreign destination on a Global Air International flight and pick up their aircraft at that destination

just as Global Air International Pilots may fly and/or deadhead on Global Express Airways flights to our

local/domestic destinations.

If you have any doubts on a flight you are considering or have any additional questions regarding humanitarian

flights, please contact your Flight Crew Manager.

A Global Air International ERJ-145LR Flies over the Eifel Tower in Paris, France

Page 8 – Embraer ERJ-145LR – With All the Frills

The Embraer ERJ 145 family is a series of regional jets produced by Embraer, a Brazilian aerospace company.

Family members include the ERJ 135 (37 passengers), ERJ 140 (44 passengers), and ERJ 145 (50 passengers), as

well as the Legacy business jet and the R-99 family of military aircraft. The ERJ 145 is the largest of the group.

Each jet in the series is powered by two turbofan engines. The family's primary competition comes from the

Bombardier CRJ regional jets.

The ERJ 145 was launched at the Paris Airshow in 1989 as a stretched and turbofan-powered modification of the

EMB 120 Brasilia. Key components of this design included:

Straight wing (with winglets)

Rear Fuselage-mounted engines

Range of 2500 km

75% parts commonality with the EMB 120.

By 1990, Embraer engineers found that results from wind-tunnel testing were less than satisfactory, and began

considering a significantly different design from the EMB 120. The proposed modified design included a slightly

(22.3°) swept wing with winglets, as well as engines mounted in under wing nacelles. This second design showed

markedly better aerodynamic performance, but the combination of swept wings and wing-mounted engines required

an unusually high (and therefore heavy) undercarriage.

The ERJ 140 is based on the ERJ 145 with 96% parts commonality and the same crew type rating. The only

significant changes are a shorter fuselage, a slightly derated engine and an increased range. At launch, Embraer

estimated the cost of an ERJ 140 to be approximately US$15.2 million. The estimated cost of development of the

ERJ 140 was US$45 million. The ERJ 135, with a service entry date of 1999, has 95% parts commonality with the

ERJ 145, but is 11.7 feet (3.6 m) shorter.

The ERJ 145 seats 50 passengers, the ERJ 140 seats 44, and the ERJ 135 seats 37. The ERJ 140 was designed with

fewer seats in order to meet the needs of some major United States airlines, which have an agreement with the pilot

union as to the number of 50-seat aircraft that can be operated in their mixed fleets.

In 2003, Embraer entered a partnership with the Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation of Harbin, China. The

resulting company, Harbin Embraer, began producing the ERJ 145 for the Chinese market by assembling complete

knock down kits pre-manufactured by other worldwide Embraer operations.

Page 10: Global Aviation - Global Air International · Page 2 – Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada – West Meets Best Vancouver is a coastal city located in the Lower Mainland of British

Page 9 – Embraer ERJ-145LR – With All the Frills

The first flight of the ERJ 145 was on August 11, 1995, with the first delivery in December 1996 to ExpressJet

Airlines (then the regional division of Continental Airlines). ExpressJet is the largest operator of the ERJ 145, with

270 of the nearly 1000 ERJ 145s in service. The second largest operator is American Eagle, with 206 ERJ 145

aircraft. Chautauqua Airlines also operates 95 ERJ 145s through its alliances with Global Air International,

American Connection, Delta Connection, US Airways Express, Continental Express, United Express and Athens

Airways .

By some accounts, the ERJ 145 has a cost of ownership of about $2,500,000 per year.

In March 2007 ExpressJet entered into a short-term agreement to operate some regional routes for JetBlue Airways

using its ERJ 145 aircraft.

The ERJ 140 was introduced in September 1999, first flew on June 27, 2000 and entered commercial service in July

2001. American Eagle Airlines, the regional jet subsidiary of American Airlines, operates the majority of the ERJ

140s built, including the first to be delivered, N800AE. Chautauqua Airlines also operate the ERJ 140.

As of early 2005, 74 ERJ 140s had been delivered.

This version is marketed as ERJ 140, but on the company's internal documents and on Federal Aviation

Administration certification, the version is designated EMB 135KL.

Embraer also produces the ERJ 145LR - Long Range (increased fuel capacity (5187 kg) and upgraded engines)

which was soon found Global Air International placing the top bids for the advanced capability model. Global Air

International has 125 in the fleet and has another 75 on order.

The Wailin' Jennys are a

Juno Award-winning

Canadian folk trio from

Winnipeg, Manitoba, and

New York, and they consist

of soprano Ruth Moody,

mezzo Nicky Mehta and

alto Heather Masse.

Recently, the Jennys have

also toured with fiddler and

mandolinist Jeremy Penner,

who is from Ruth's former

band, Scruj MacDuhk.

The Wailin' Jennys have

released several albums and

tour regularly through North

America and Europe. The

group is also often featured

on the American Public

Media program, A Prairie Home Companion. Their album, Firecracker, made it to the number two spot on the

Billboard Bluegrass charts, in 2006.

The group was founded in 2002, when a guitar shop in Winnipeg called Sled Dog Music brought three soloists - (Ruth

Moody, Nicky Mehta and Cara Luft) together for a joint performance. The show was well received and the owner

scheduled a follow-up, which was also a great success. The owner then "offered that they might go on tour and call

themselves the Wailin' Jennys." The group's name is a pun on the country singer Waylon Jennings.

Luft left, in 2004, to pursue her solo career and was replaced by Annabelle Chvostek, a singer/songwriter from

Montreal. At the 2005 Juno Awards, the group won Roots and Traditional Album of the Year (Group) for their 2004

album 40 Days. In 2007, Chvostek left the group and was replaced by Heather Masse, a Maine-born singer with a

background in jazz and blues, as well as folk, who also fronts the Brooklyn-based Heather & the Barbarians.

Robert James "Bob" Ritchie (born January 17, 1971), known by his

stage name Kid Rock, is an American singer-songwriter, musician and

rapper with five Grammy Awards nominations. Kid Rock released

several studio albums that mostly went unnoticed before his 1998

record Devil Without a Cause, released with Atlantic Records, sold 11

million albums behind the hits, "Bawitdaba", "Cowboy", and "Only

God Knows Why". In 2000, he released The History of Rock which

was a compilation of remixed and remastered versions of songs from

his previous albums as well as the hit single, "American Bad Ass" and

"F**k That".

Kid Rock released the follow up in 2001, Cocky. After a slow start, his

country-flavored hit "Picture" with Sheryl Crow resurrected the album

and it went gold as a single and pushed the album's sales to more than

5 million. It was followed by 2003's self-titled release, which failed to

chart a major hit. In 2006 he released Live Trucker, a live album.

In 2007 Kid Rock released Rock n Roll Jesus, which produced a hit in

"All Summer Long". It was his first worldwide smash hit, charting #1

in eight countries across Europe and Australia. Rock N Roll Jesus

would go on to sell 5 million albums worldwide including being

certified triple platinum in the US. He released Born Free on

November 16, 2010.

Kid Rock has stated he is a lover of

hunting and fishing and has hunted with

his good friend Hank Williams Jr. several

times. When Rock and Pamela Anderson

divorced, it was rumored that Rock's

hunting passion was the cause.
