China Research Center on Sports for Persons with Disabilities

Research project funded by Beijing Sport University to assess motor proficiency of children with intellectual disabilities in China

Began in September 2012, currently in pilot phase

Upon validation of test items, project will be expanded to develop normative data on a national level

Motor Proficiency of Children with Intellectual Disabilities in China

Research project funded by China Disabled Person’s Federation to assess physical fitness of children with disabilities

Beginning in June 2013 Year 1 will involve students with intellectual disabilities Year 2 will involve students with physical disabilities Year 3 will involve students with visual and hearing disabilities

After Year 3, project will collect data with a national sample

Physical Fitness of Children with Disabilities in China

Purpose will be to provide students with disabilities in Shenyang with appropriate adapted physical activity instruction to maximize their physical and motor development, involvement in physical activity, quality of health, employment potential, and overall quality of life.

Based on the successful Achievement Based Curriculum

Project will begin with a pilot project involving 5 schools in Shen Yang, China

If successful, project will lead to development of national standards for APE instruction in China
