On Wednesday, Kindergarten and Year One students joined over 1,085,587 participants across Australia and New Zealand reading Alpacas with Maracas for the biggest National Simultaneous Storytime ever!

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

Students enjoyed listening to the story Alpaca with Maracas through books and digital texts, wrote responses to the story and also created artworks inspired by the book. Kindergarten classes were excited to have students and educators from Hilda Booler Preschool join them for story time, followed by morning tea in the playground.

Principal’s Message

Happy week 4 everyone!

Glebe Public School now has an App. Please find instructions on how to install the Skoolbag

App onto your devises. The possibilities for our App are endless, however it will take us a little

time to implement all its capabilities. At first, it will be used for notes, Glebe Matters and push

notifications (if required).

Yesterday a group of students had their photo taken with author Bruce Pascoe. Bruce has a

new book called ‘Young Dark Emu - A Truer History’, which asks young readers to consider a

different version of Australia's history pre-European colonisation. It was such a thrill to have

Bruce at Glebe Public School. Hopefully a photo will appear in the Daily Telegraph tomorrow.

“The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” (Albert Einstein)

Have a great weekend.

Carriageworks

Last Friday years 3 and 4 visited Sydney Carriageworks, where we were fortunate enough to have a look at some contemporary Australian art. Featured are images of the students enjoying the Cartonography installation, composed of banana cartons from far North Queensland (we found this quite funny). Also featured are the students 'hanging out' on Nat Thomas' Postcards from the Edge installation - a few dramatic talents emerged here.

Years 3 and 4 then ventured over to the Asad Raza's Absorption exhibition, where they discussed some of the important metabolic processes and experiments that take place. The students broadened there scientific understanding and vocabulary by adding clay and silt to soil and discovered that in one teaspoon of rich soil there were approximately 4 billion micronutrients!

The learning experiences tied in nicely with the Living World and Australian Art units they have been learning about in class. The children and staff had an awesome day!
