Just like that, the summer is
almost over. I know a lot of
the membership loves to see
the warmth give way to fall
then inevitably winter; how-
ever I am personally sad to
see the warmer weather on its
last legs. Anyhow as a lodge
we had quite the August did-
n’t we? On August 1st we
initiated several new mem-
bers into our order. When
you see them around, extend
the hand of friendship and
make them feel welcome.
The weekend of August 3rd
and 4th was very busy as we
hosted the Annual Food
Truck Festival. Dudz did a
good job again of planning
and bringing this event to
fruition. I would like to
thank all members who vol-
unteered to help and those
who came out to support.
August 9th we participated
in the Camp Sunrise Gradua-
tion. I would like to thank
Dave Bassette and Mark Cur-
tin for heading this endeavor.
Also, thanks to all of you
who volunteered for event;
the kids really enjoyed it.
On August 12th the lodge
played the Rotary in the an-
nual softball game. Although
the game ended in a tie, we
had a great time.
Lastly on August 24th, we
held a CT Pistol Permit class.
If you missed this one, keep
your eyes open as there will
be others in the future.
Looking ahead to Septem-
ber, there is a lot on the dock-
et. First off September 2nd is
Labor Day, the unofficial last
day of summer. Please see
the hours within this Upstart
for abbreviated bar hours.
On September 9th we will be
having the Golf tournament.
Tom Herzog works especially
hard to put on this event every
year. If you wish to play and
have not submitted your four-
some, please do so ASAP.
Even if you don’t play, come
on out to the lodge after for
the raffles and fellowship.
At our meeting on Septem-
ber 25th we will be hosting the
Central District Deputy, Don
Percoski for his visit. This
meeting will include a dinner
prior and an initiation of new
members. There will be a sig-
nup sheet in the bar for those
that wish to attend the dinner
prior to the meeting.
Lastly on September 28th we
will be hosting Elks Day. This
event is being hosted by the
Range Committee, and it will
be an awesome day. Our
shooting range will have dif-

ferent shooting games through-
out the day, burgers and dogs
will be available for sale, a set-
back tournament will take
place. The day will culminate
in a prime rib dinner and draw-
ing for the Ready Up Raffle.
Tickets for both are available at
the bar, please purchase them
soon as they need to plan on
how much food to buy.
I hope everyone enjoys the
last days of the best season of
the year. Enjoy time with fami-
ly, friends, and have fun but
most importantly be safe. As
always if anyone has any ques-
tions suggestions, or comments
please feel free to talk to me
whenever you see me. Peace
and blessings to you all.
ELK OF THE MONTH
Don Hoerman
This month’s Elk of the
Month Award goes to Don
Hoerman. Don has taken on
the task of running Stick Bust
every Monday, and done a phe-
nomenal job of it. More people
are participating in this event
than ever before. Thanks Don
for the hard work.

We now have an ATM on the premises!
From the Acting Secretary’s Desk
Due to some minor changes within the office, I have been asked to return, and in doing so I attempted to get a handle on an issue which was brought to my attention of those members not receiving emails from us. I sent out an “opt-in” email to all members we have an email for which was in the computer. This requires you to select the “link” within the email. Until you select the link, you will not receive any further emails.
I’ve also added a new link to our website (glastonburyelks.org) which provides a quick way to add yourself to our mailing list. I do apologize for any inconvenience, but due to federal laws (CAN-SPAM act) surrounding the changes, I am not able to “just send out emails” until you say it is okay for us to do so. Dennis G. Claffey, PDD Acting Secretary

Bullet Notes
Lodge Members –
If you haven't visited the Range this
month, you are in for a surprise. The
'Cement Pad' project, a priority for us
this year has been completed. I would
like to recognize Range Committee
Member, Andy Pulvermacher. Andy
dedicated countless hours to this
project, which has been a discussion at
the Lodge for years. Andy, thank you
for the time and energy you put into getting this done.
We have also completed another 'Basic Safety Pistol
Course.' We had 11 folks attend the training. All
participants passed the practical and exam. The group was
able to tour the Lodge and meet a few of our members.
They had a great time and some have expressed interest in
joining the Lodge.
September will be a busy month as we close out the
Summer. Our next Range Committee Meeting is scheduled
for Tuesday, September 10th. We are hosting the District's
'Veterans Shoot' on Saturday, September 14th. All other
efforts are focused on the Big 3; 'Ready Up Raffle,' 'Prime
Rib Dinner' and 'Elks Day' on September 28th. Along with
several other events at our Lodge this month, we need the
support of our members to be successful.
There are several ways to contribute, which include
volunteering, donating, purchasing tickets or by simply
sharing the information with your friends and family. Please
contact us at the Range with any questions, thoughts or
concerns by phone/text at 860-593-9028 or by email to
As always our Range Committee members are committed
to increasing safety measures, updating the Range and
providing opportunities for shooters at all levels.
