Richard&BarbaraBaschbegancollectingGlassArtin1993.Initially,theyfocusedonAmericanartists.Theysoonbegantoincludeartistsfromaroundtheworld.Thisyear’sexhibitionfeaturestheworkofMuranoglassmasterDavideSalvadoreandhissonsMarcoandMattia.ItalsoincludesworksbyLinoTagliapietrafromtheBaschCollection.
DavideSalvadorewasborninMuranoin1953.Adescendentofafamilyofglassworkers,hehasalwayslivedandworkedontheVenetianisland.AtayoungagehebeganworkingwithhisgrandfatherAntoniowhotaughthimhowtobuildkilns.SoonafterhebeganworkingwiththenotedItalianartistAlfredoBarbini,andfouryearslaterjoinedLoredanoRosinandhisteam.HealsoworkedwiththeVeniniandBarovier&Tosoglassstudios.In1978,hebeganproducinglampworkedbeadsforhismotherAnnaMantoan'sjewelrystudios.ThisledtoaseriesofcollaborationswithfashionanddesignhousessuchasRobertadiCamerino,YvesSaintLaurent,ChristianDiorandSwatch.In1987,Salvadorefoundedthestudio“CampagnoleSalvadore”whichhestillmanagestodaywithtwopartners.AtthestudioDavideworksasglassmaster-usingkilnshebuilthimself-combininglampworkandfurnacetechniquesininnovativeways.HealsoproducesworkforprestigiousMuranoglassstudiossuchasNason&Moretti,VincenzoNason,andLaMurrina,aswellasfortheIstitutoStataled'ArtediVenezia,andcollaborateswithartistsanddesignerssuchasAndreaAnastasio,GiorgioVigna,FlorysMeydam,FrankBorst,andMassimoNordio.
StudioSalvadoreisacollaborativeglassproductionteamheadedbyDavide’ssonsMattiaandMarco,whobeganworkingwiththeirfatherinthestudioCampanol&Salvadoreasyoungboys.In2003,MattiaSalvadoreassistedPinoSignoretto,FrancoToffolo,andDanteMarioniattheinternationalworkshoporganizedbyCentroStudioVetro,foundedin1997tocultivateandpromotetheartofglass.MattiaSalvadorestudiedwithavarietyofMuranesemasters,attendedthePilchuckGlassSchoolinSeattle,WashingtonandworkedattherenownedVeniniglassfactory.
LinoTagliapietrawasborninMurano,Italyin1934.Attheageof12hebegananapprenticeshipwithArchimedeSegusoandbytheageof21,hehadearnedthetitleofmaestro.Overthenexttwenty-fiveyearsTagliapietraworkedwithseveralofthebestknownMuraneseglassfactories.In1979,hecametotheUnitedStatestoteachatPilchuckSchoolinSeattle,thusbeginningalonghistoryofsharinghiscenturies-oldtechniqueswithAmericanglassartists.Inthe1980s,TagliapietrabecameknownforhiscollaborativeworkwithDaleChihulyandDanDailey.
