Living Things with 3/4M

3/4M have been enjoying working on the science unit 'Living Things' this term. The little scientists headed

out into the school grounds to explore both the living and non-living things in our gardens. We took the mag-

nifying glasses out to get up close and see the details within the plants and insects. 3/4M were very excited

to be learning about the characteristics of living things while being outdoors. There are lots more living

things in our school gardens than we'd realised!

Principals Report Term 1 Week 8

Lining Up

The lining up winners in week 6 was 2L and in week 7, our wonderful Kindergarten class won the lining up

reward. Congratulations to both classes!

Arcadia Vale PS Little Learners Program 2020

We will again be running our ‘Little Learners’ program in term 2, 2019. This program invites students who

are attending Kindergarten in 2020 to join in with our current Kindergarten teacher, Mrs Fawkes and our

2019 Kindergarten students. This is a fantastic opportunity for students about to attend ‘Big’ school to de-

velop an understanding of how Primary school operates, become familiar with their new environment and

meet new friends and peers that they will attend school with in 2020. There is a flyer (in the newsletter)

with all information surrounding these sessions. We look forward to meeting our new Kindergarten stu-

dents and parents in term 2!

Planned Maintenance Works

Unfortunately, the planned maintenance work on the hall hasn’t been completed in the timeframe outlined

previously. A note was sent home on Monday providing updated information.

AVPS Cross Country

Our annual school cross country carnival was held on Friday 15th March. The weather held off for the carni-

val and all students displayed a great attitude towards participating in their age race. After watching our kin-

dergarten and Year 1 students participate as well, it looks like we have some future long-distance runners

coming through. Congratulations to those students who have been successful in making it to the Westlakes

Zone Cross Country. The shield and medals will be presented shortly to the successful students. Thank you

to all of the parents who turned up to support all of our students and encourage them around the Cross

Country course!

Band Lessons

Due to the ongoing works in the hall, band and music lessons with Geoff Wilson won’t commence this Fri-

day as previously notified. However, Geoff is very keen to work with our students and we hope to be up and

running ASAP.

Harmony Day – Thursday 21st March

AVPS will participate in a range of activities to celebrate Harmony Day on Thursday. Students are encour-

aged to wear ‘orange’ to support this day. Students will be involved in a range of activities throughout the

day as a class and whole school.

Principals Report Big Assembly – Week 6

Thank you to the parents/caregivers and relatives who attended our first big assembly for 2019. All of stu-

dents felt very proud when displaying their quality work to you on the day. Our Year 6 Buddies and Kinder-

garten students did a great job introducing themselves to everyone as well. Well done! The students have

taken on board our school values of Excellence, Respect and Community and are striving to achieve these

values daily.

AVPS Playgroup

Our Playgroup is running on a Thursday morning from 9.30am – 11.30am in the Library. This is a great op-

portunity for younger children in our community and their parents to meet and interact in a variety of activ-

ities weekly on a Thursday morning. Thank you to Ashley Maber and current parents for coordinating this

fantastic initiative.

Car Parking

Just a reminder that no cars are allowed onto the school grounds of an afternoon to pick up your child/ren.

There have been a number of cars entering from Macquarie Street which are causing safety concerns.

All students have received their book packs and their equipment has been labelled. If you haven’t paid for

Arcadia Vale Public School would like to invite children who are heading into Kindergarten in 2020 to attend our school and enjoy activities on

The children will be able to interact with our current Kindergarten students through lessons, games and other key aspects related to ‘Big School.’ We see this as an excellent opportunity for the students to become familiar with the primary school setting and ensure a smooth

transition to their first year of schooling.

The IGA BBQ

The committee held a successful community BBQ at IGA earlier in the month and were able to raise $339.40!

Many thanks to all our volunteers on the day. Again, fundraising could not be done without you all. Thank you

again IGA!!

School Banking

School banking has been off to a rocky start this year, due to scheduling the handover of duties, but it is now

back to being promptly processed on a Monday morning and books will be given back to students on the

same day. All bank books need to be handed in to either the office or school teacher by 9.30am. Thank you to

Rose Sillett for taking on the role of School Banking Co-ordinator this year.

P & C News Term 1 Pie Drive

Thankyou to everyone who placed an order in the Thompsons Pie Drive. Orders can be picked up from the

staffroom this Friday 22nd March from 2pm onwards.

Play Group

There is a Playgroup NSW playgroup that meets here at the school every Thursday 9.30am – 11.30am. Usually

in the hall but due to the hall being painted we are currently meeting in the school library and having outdoor
