He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Abu Muhammad Al Qasim Bin Abdullah Bin Al Mugheira Al Jowhary who said, ‘It was narrated to us by Abu Gassan, meaning Malik Bin Ismail Al Nahdy, from Al Muttalib Bin Ziyad, from Lays, from Al Hakam, from Ayesha Bin Sa’ad, from Sa’dan,

ص قال لنلم بن أبم طالب ى وم غزوة تبو أنت منم بمنزلة هارون من موسى و لكن ل نبم بندي. عن رسول للا

From Rasool-Allahsaww having said to Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws on the day of the military expedition of Tabuk: ‘Youasws are from mesaww at the status of Harounas from Musaas, but there would be no Prophetas after mesaww’’.1

ائب عن أبم صالح د بن الس د بن مروان عن محم د بن السود عن محم ثنا محم عن ابن عباس رض قال: قال: حد

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Muhammad Bin Al Aswad, from Muhammad Bin Marwan, from Muhammad Bin Al Sa’ib, from Abu Salih, from Ibn Abbas who said,

ن قد آمن بالنبم ص بن سلم و منه نفر من قومه مم سن منازلنا بنيدة ل نجد أحدا يجالسنا و أقبل عبد للا فقالوا يا رسول للا و رسوله و تركنا د قنا للا ا رأونا قد صد قسموا أن ل يبالطونا يندم أظدروا النداوة و أ يبالطنا دون هذا المسجد و سن قومنا لم

و ل يؤاكلونا فشق علينا

‘Abdullah Bin Salaam came and with him were a number of his people from the ones who had believed in the Prophetsaww. So they said, ‘O Rasool-Allahsaww! Our houses are remote. We cannot find anyone to sit with us and mingle with us besides this Masjid, and that our people, when they see us to have ratified Allahazwj and Hisazwj Rasoolsaww

and having left their religion, they manifest the enmity and they are vowing that they will not be mingling with us nor would they be eating with us. So it is grievous upon us’.

و رسوله و الذين آمنوا الذين يقيمو فبينا هم يشكون سلى النبم ص سذ نزلت هذه الية على رسول للا كم للا لة و سنما ولي ن الصكاة و هم راكنون ص سلى المسجد و الناس يصلون بين راك يؤتون الز در و برج رسول للا لة صلة الظ ن بالص ع و و يؤذ

ساجد و قائم و قاعد

So while they were complaining to the Prophetsaww, this Verse was Revealed unto Rasool-Allahsaww [5:55] But rather, only Allah is your Guardian and His Rasool and those who believe, those who are establishing the Salat and are paying the Zakat while performing Rukou. And there was an Azaan for the Al-Zohr Salat, and Rasool-Allahsaww went to the Masjid, and the people were praying Salat, and were between the Rukou (bowing) and the Sajda (prostration) and standing, and sitting.

ص فقال أ جل القائم قال على أي حال فإذا مسكين يسأل فدبل رسول للا عطا أحد شيئا؟ قال ننم قال من؟ قال ذا الر أعطاكه؟ قال و هو راكع قال و ذل علم بن أبم طالب ع

There was a beggar begging, and Rasool-Allahsaww entered, and hesaww said: ‘Did anyone give you anything?’ He said, ‘Yes’. Hesaww said: ‘Who?’ He said, ‘That man, the standing one’. Hesaww said: ‘Upon which state did he give you?’ He said, ‘While he was performing Rukou (bowing)’. Hesaww said: ‘And That is Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws’.

و رسوله و الذين آمنوا الي عند ذل ثم قرأ و من يتول للا ر رسول للا ان بن ثابت يقول فم ذل قال فكب ة فأنشأ حس

He (Ibn Abbas) said, ‘So Rasool-Alahsaww exclaimed Takbeer during that, then recited [5:56] And whoever takes Allah and His Rasool and those who believe for a Guardian – the Verse. So Hassan Bin Sabit prosed saying regarding that:-

أبا حسن تفدي نفسم و مدجتم

مسارع ء فم الددى و و كل بطم

أ يذهب سنم فم مديح ضائنا

و ما المدح فم جنب الله بضائع

Fatherasws of Hassanasws, for youasws is sacrificed myself and my soul, and everything regarding the guidance from the slow and the quick. Would the quest regarding yourasws praise go to waste? And the praise regarding the Side of Godazwj would not be lost.

فأنت الذي أعطيت سذ كنت راكنا

فدت نفوس القوم يا بير راكع

بير ولية فأنزل في للا

رائع تدا فم محكمات الش فثب

So youasws are the one who gave when youasws were performing Rukou. Sacrificed be the souls of the people, O best of the bowers (Rukou performers), as Allahazwj has Revealed regarding youasws the best Wilayah, and Affirmed it in the Decisive Verses of the Legislation.2

ع قال سمنته يقول بلق أمير المؤمنين ع لفاطمة ما كان لدا كفؤ من عن يونس بن ظبيان عن أبم عبد للا : لو ل أن للا الرض.

From Yunus Bin Zabyan,

(It has been narrated) from Abu Abdullahasws, said, ‘I heard himasws saying: ‘Had Allahazwj not Created Amir Al-Momineenasws for (Syeda) Fatimaasws, there would not have been a match for herasws from the earth’.3

ار بن أبم منا ويل و عم الط ثنا علم بن هاشم عن أبيه عن بكير بن عبد للا ن بنم قال: حد ثنا أبو عثمان البجلم مؤذ وية قال حدن لنا أربنين سنة قال: و سن نكثوا أيماندم من بند عددهم و طننوا فم دينكم سمنت عليا يقول يوم الجمل أقصى قال بكير أذ

دم ل أيمان لدم لنلدم ينتدون ة الكفر سن ه ما قوتل فقاتلوا أئم أهلدا منذ نزلت حتى اليوم ثم حلف حين قرأها أن

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Ali Bin Hashim, from his father, from Bukeyr Bin Abdullah Al Taweel and Ammar Bin Abu Muawiya who both said, ‘It was narrated to us by Abu Usman Al Bajaly, Muezzin of the Clan of Aqsa who said, ‘Bukeyr who recited Azaan for us for forty years, said,

‘I heard Aliasws saying on the day of the camel (the battle of Al-Basra): ‘[9:12] And if they break their oaths after their agreement and are taunting regarding your Religion, then fight the imams of the disbelief - surely their oaths are nothing - so that they may be restrained. Then heasws oathed when heasws recited it: ‘It is so that the ones referred to in this Verse did not fight since it was Revealed until today’’.

يخ هكذا قال علم ع هكذا كان.قال بكير فسألت عندا أبا جنفر ع فقال صدق الش

Bukeyr said, ‘So I asked Abu Ja’farasws about it, and heasws said: ‘The Sheykh spoke the truth. Like this is what Aliasws said. Like this is how it was’’.4

د بن يوسف عن منصور بن بزرج قال: عن محم

From Muhammad Bin Yuaus, from Mansour Bin Yuzruj who said,

ادق ع ما أكثر من سيدي ذكر سلمان الفا الص دي أ قلت لبم عبد للا رسم فقال ل تقل سلمان الفارسم و لكن قل سلمان المحمه ال تدري ما كثرة ذكري له؟ قلت ل قال لثلث أحدها سيثاره هوى أمير المؤمنين ع على هوى انية حب فقراء و نفسه و الث

ه للنلم و النلماء سن سلمان الثة حب روة و الندد و الث كان عبدا صالحا حنيفا مسلما و ما كان من ابتياره لدم على أهل الث . المشركين

I said to Abu Abdullah Al-Sadiqasws, ‘How frequent from youasws is the mention of Salman Al-Farsyra’. So heasws said: ‘Do not say, ‘Salman Al-Farsy’, but say, ‘Salman Al-Muhammady’. Do you know what myasws frequent mention of himra is for?’ I said, ‘No’. Heasws said: ‘Due to three (hisra characteristics). One of these is that hisra giving preference to the desires of Amir Al-Momineenasws over hisra own desires. And the second is hisra love of the poor and hisra opting for them over the people of wealth and number. And the third is hisra love for the knowledge and the knowledgeable onesasws.

Salmanra was a righteous servant, an upright Muslim, and hera was not from the Polytheists’’.5

Asma’a Bin Umays used to treat the wounds during the military

expeditions of the Prophetsaww.

ة د ابن الحنفي ان عن أم جنفر بنت جنفر امرأة محم ثنا سبراهيم بن حي قال: حد

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Ibrahim Bin Hayyan, from mother of Ja’far Bint Ja’far, wife of Muhammad Ibn Al Hanafiyya,

ثتدا: دا حد ق عن أسماء بنت عميس أن ة ما كنت تصننين؟ قالت كنت أبرز الس بم ص قالت قلت يا جد دا كانت تغزو مع الن اء أن سليه و أداوي الجرحى و أ كحل النين و أن النبم ص صلى بنا النصر و انتبأ قبل أن سلم فأوحى للا

(It has been narrated) from Asma’a Bint Umays having narrated that she used to go on military expeditions along with the Prophetsaww. She said, ‘I said, ‘O grandmother! What were you doing (in those expeditions)?’ She said, ‘I used to look after the water-skins and treat the wounds, and apply kohl to the eyes, and that the Prophetsaww prayed leading Al-Asr Salat with us, and hesaww received news before hesaww greeted, and Allahazwj Revealed unto himsaww.

ا أبصر النبم ص و قد طال ذل منه حتى غر و أببر عليا ع لدا فلم بت الشمس فقال له يا و قد كان دبل و لم يكن أدر أوبم اللدم ارددها عليه فرجن راب فقال الن ت الشمس بند ما غربت حتى صلى علم علم ما صليت قال ل كرهت أطرح فم الت

And Aliasws was informed, and heasws had come and heasws had not attained the beginning of it. So when the Prophet saw himasws, and that had prolonged from himsaww until the sun set. So hesaww said to himasws: ‘O Aliasws! Youasws did not pray Salat?’ Heasws said: ‘No, Iasws disliked dropping yousaww upon the soil’. So the Prophetsaww said: ‘O Allahazwj! Return it upon himasws’. So the sun returned after having had set until Aliasws prayed Salat’’.

قال أنشدنم القاضم أبو عبد للا الحسين بن هارون بن محمد رحمه للا سنة سحدى و ثلثين و ثلثمائة

He said, ‘It was recited to me by the judge Abu Abdullah Al-Husayn Bin Haroun Bin Muhammad in the year three hundred and thirty one -

بأبم و أمم بمسة أحببتدم

فم للا ل لنطية أعطاها

بأبم النبم محمد و وصيه

الطيبان و بنته و ابناها

بأبم الذين بحبدم و بذكرهم

أرجو النجاة من التم أبشاها

قوم سذا ولهم متدين

.والى ولم الطيبين للا

By my father and my father, five I love themasws for the Sake of Allahazwj, not for the gifts gifted out. By my father, the Prophet Muhammadsaww, and hissaww successorasws, the two goodly onesasws and hissaww daughterasws and herasws two sonsasws. By my father, who, by theirasws love and theirasws mention, is wishing for the salvation from which he is fearing a people when he befriends themasws, making it a Religion befriending the goodly Guardiansasws of Allahazwj’.

الحسين بن أبم القاسم التميمم قال: أببرنا أبو سنيد السجستانم و قال أنبأنم القاضم بن القاضم أبو القاسم علم بن المحسن بن علم التنوبم ببغداد قال أنشدنم أبم و أبو علم المحسن قال أنشدنم أبم و أبو القاسم الفدم التنوبم لنفسه من قصيدة

Al-Husayn Bin Abu Al-Qasim Al-Tameemy, from Abu Saeed Al-Sijistany, and Al-Qzy Bin Al Qzy Abu Al Qasim Ali Bin Al ohsin Bin Ali Al Tanoujy at Baghdad, from his father and Abu Ali Al Mohsin, from His father and Abu Al Qasim Al Fahm Al Tanoujy, from himself from a poem –

من قال فم يوم الغدير محمدو

و قد باف من غدر النداة النواصب

أما أنا أولى بكم من نفوسكم

فقالوا بلى قول المريب الموارب

فقال لدم من كنت موله منكم

فدذا أبم موله فيكم و صاحب

أطينوه طرا فدو منم كمنزل

لدارون من موسى الكليم المباطب

آل هاشم فقول له سن كنت من

.فما كل نجم فم السماء بثاقب

And the one who said during the day of Al-Ghadeer, Muhammadsaww, and hesaww had feared from the treachery of the enmity of the Hostile Ones (Nasibis): ‘But, Am Isaww not closer with you all than your own selves?’ They said, ‘Yes’. A suspect word of the suspicious ones. So hesaww said to them: ‘The one whose Master Isaww was from you all, so this, mysaww brotherasws, is his Master among you all, and a companion. Obey himasws completely, for heasws is from mesaww like at the status of Harounas from Musaas, the Speaker, the Addressed’. So speak for himasws if you were from the Progeny of Hashimas, for every star in the sky is not bright’.6

From the stipulation of the testimony with the Oneness (of Allahazwj),

عن أبم سنيد البدري قال:

From Abu Saeed Al Khudry who said,

ص ذات يوم جالسا و عنده دبل الجنة كان رسول للا نفر من أصحابه فيدم علم بن أبم طالب ع سذ قال من قال ل سله سل للا فقال رجلن من أصحابه فنحن نقول أن ل سله سل للا

‘One day Rasool-Allahsaww was seated and in hissaww presence were a number of hissaww companions, among them being Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, when hesaww said: ‘The one who says, ‘There is no god except Allahazwj would enter the Paradise’’. So two men from hissaww companions said, ‘We are saying that there no god except Allahazwj’’.

من هذا و من شينته الذين أب ما تقبل شدادة أن ل سله سل للا سن نا ميثاقدم فقال رسول للا جلن ذ رب [ فنحن نقول فقال الرجال ]الر ص يده على رأس علم بن أبم طالب ع ثم قال علم فوضع رسول للا ة ذل أل تحل عقده و ل تجلسا مجلسه أن ل سله سل للا

بان حديثه. و ل تكذ

So Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘But rather, the testimony, ‘There is no god except Allahazwj’ would be Accepted from this one (Aliasws) and hisasws Shias, those whom Allahazwj has Taken their Covenant’. So the two men said, ‘But we are saying that there is no god except Allahazwj’. So Rasool-Allahsaww placed hissaww hand upon the head of Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, then said: ‘The sign of that is that youasws will not until hisasws knot (allegiance), nor sit in hisasws seat, not belie hisasws Ahadeeth’’.7

عن سسحاق بن راهويه قال:

From Is’haq Bin Rahawiya who said,

ضا ع بنيسابور و أراد أن يرحل مندا سلى المأمون اجتمع سليه ا وافى أبو الحسن الر أصحاب الحديث فقالوا له يا ابن رسول لمث ا و ل تحد ترحل عن نا بحديث فنستفيده من للا

‘When Abu Al-Hassan Al-Rezaasws was at Neyshapour and wanted to depart from it to Al-Mamoun, the companions of the Hadeeth gathered to himasws, and they said to himasws, ‘O sonasws of Rasool-Allahsaww! Youasws are departing from us and are not narrating to us with a Hadeth, so we can benefit by it from youasws’.

ة فأطلع رأسه و قال سمنت أبم موسى بن جنفر يقول سمنت أ اري د يقول سمنت أبم بم جنفر بن محم و كان قد قند فم النمد بن علم يقول سمنت أبم علم بن الحسين يقول سمنت أبم الحسين بن علم يقول سمنت أبم أمير المؤمنين علم بن محم

ي حصنم فمن دبل أبم طالب ع يقول سمنت رسول للا عز و جل يقول ل سله سل للا قول سمنت جبرئيل يقول سمنت للا حصنم أمن من عذابم

And heasws was seated in the palanquin, so heasws emerged hisasws head and said: ‘Iasws heard myasws fatherasws Musaasws Bin Ja’farasws saying: ‘Iasws heard myasws fatherasws Ja’farasws Bin Muhammadasws saying: ‘Iasws heard masws fatherasws Muhammadasws Bin Aliasws saying: ‘Iasws heard myasws fatherasws Aliasws Bin Al-Husaynasws saying: ‘Iasws heard myasws fatherasws Al-Husaynasws Bin Aliasws saying: ‘Iasws heard myasws fatherasws Amir Al-Momineenasws saying: ‘Iasws heard Rasool-Allahsaww saying: ‘Isaww heard Jibraeelas saying: ‘Iasws heard Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Saying: “(The statement) There is no god except Allahazwj’ is Myazwj Fort. So the one who entered into Myazwj Fort would be safe from Myazwj Punishment”’.

So when the ride passed by, heasws called out: ‘By its stipulation! And Iasws am from its stipulations!’’.8

عن الفضل بن يسار

From Al-Fazl Bin Yasaar,

و ة شدادة أن ل سله سل للا بدن دبل الجن و القرار بما جاء من عن أبم جنفر ع قال: عشر من لقم للادا رسول للا أن محم

كاة و صوم شدر رمضان و حج البيت و الولية ل لة و سيتاء الز و سقام الص و اجت عند للا و البراءة من أعداء للا ناب ولياء للا كل مسكر.

(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’farasws having said: ‘Ten (things), the one who meets Allahazwj with these, would enter the Paradise – The testimony that there is no god except Allahazwj and that Muhammadsaww is Hisazwj Rasoolsaww; and the acknowledgment with whatever has come from the Presence of Allahazwj; and the establishment of the Salat; and payment of the Zakat; and Fasts of the Month of Ramazan; and the Hajj of the House (Kabah); and the Wilayah of the Friendsasws of Allahazwj and the disavowment from the enemies of Allahazwj; and the keeping aside from every intoxicant’’.9

ه عن علم ع قال: قال ر ثنم أبم عن أبيه عن جد قال: حد ثنا عيسى بن عبد للا صقال: حد لم على المسلمين : حق ع سول للا كحق الوالد على ولده.

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Isa Bin Abdullah who said, ‘It was narrated to me by my father, from his father, from his grandfather,

(It has been narrated) from Aliasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘The right of Aliasws upon the Muslims is like the right of the father upon his children’’.10

عن أبم سسحاق عن سنيد بن وهب

From Abu Is’haq, from Saeed Bin Wahab,

ص يننم يوم غدي كل امرئ مسلم سمع رسول للا حبة: أنشد للا ر بم يقول ما قال سل قام فقام سليه ثلثة أن عليا ع قال فم الرة من جانب و سبنة من جانب عشر رجل ست

‘Aliasws said in Al-Rahba: ‘Iasws I hereby adjure to Allahazwj every Muslim man who hear Rasool-Allahsaww on the Dayof Ghadeer Khumm saying what hesaww said, except that he should stand!’ So thirteen men stood up to himasws, six from one side and seven from one side’.

And Haroun (a reporter) said, ‘Twelve men’. So they testified that Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘The one whose Master Isaww was, so Aliasws is his Master. O Allahazwj! Befriend the one who befriends himasws and be Inimical to the one who is inimical to himasws, and Love the one who loves himasws and Hate the one who hates himasws, and Help the one who helps himasws’’.11

ثنا علم بن عابس عن أبيه حد

It was narrated to us by Ali Bin Abbas, from his father,

ا فتح بيبر حمل الباب على ظدره فجنله جسرا ينبر الناس عليه و أنه بر عن أبم جنفر عن علم ع ه لم ب بند ذل فلم : أن يحمله سل أربنين رجل.

(It has been narrated) from Abu Ja’farasws from Aliasws that when heasws conquered Khyber, heasws carried the gate upon hisasws back, so heasws made it as a bridge for the people (army) to cross upon it, and that it was ruined after that, and was not carried except by forty men’’.12

ا كانت الليلة التم زفت فيدا فاطمة بنت بنم عن ابن عباس قال: لم النبم ص سلى علم بن أبم طالب ع كان عن أبم حمزة الضامدا و جبرئيل عن قد سونه ح رسول للا و يقد تى طلع يميندا و ميكائيل عن شمالدا و سبنون ألف مل من بلفدا يسبحون للا

From Abu Hamza Al-Zubai’e, from Ibn Abbas who said, ‘When it was the night in which Fatimaasws daughterasws of the Prophetsaww was escorted to Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, it was so that Rasool-Allahsaww was in front of herasws, and Jibraeelas on herasws right, and Mikaeel on herasws left, and seventy thousand Angels from behind herasws were Glorifying Allahazwj and Extolling Hisazwj Holiness, until the emergence of the dawn’’.13

From Is’haq, from Al-Hars, from Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws having said: ‘Rasool-Allahsaww said: ‘In the Paradise there is a Level called Al-Waseela for every Prophetsaww, Rasoolsaww, and Iasws am hesaww (A Rasoolsaww), therefore ask it for mesaww’. They said, ‘Who would settle with yousaww?’ Heasws said: ‘Fatimaasws, and herasws husbandasws, and Al-Hassanasws and Al-Husaynasws’’.14

‘Rasool-Allahsaww sent Aliasws among a battalion, so I saw himsaww raising hissaww hands and hesaww was saying: ‘O Allahazwj! Do not Cause mesaww to pass away until Yousaww Cause mesaww see Aliasws’’.15

ا دبل عليه استضح مناوية فقال له عمرو ما بحذف السناد قال: استأذن عمرو بن الناص على مناوية بن أبم سفيان فلم سرور ؟ قال ذكرت علم بن أبم طالب و قد غشي بسيفه ف يضحك قيته و وليت فقال أ تشمت بم يا أمير المؤمنين أدام للا ات

لو بارزته لوجع قذال و يا مناوية فأعجب من هذا يوم دعا سلى البراز فالتم ت أضلع و انتفخ سحر و للا ع لون و أط سلطان أيتم عيال و بز

By a deleted chain, said, ‘Amro Bin Al A’as sought permission to see Muawiya Bin Abu Sufyan. So when he came up to him, Muawiya laughed. So Amro said to him, ‘What make you laugh, O commander of the faithful? May Allahazwj Perpetuate your joy’. He said, ‘I remembered Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, and heasws had overwhelmed you by hisasws sword, so you feared himasws and turned around’. He said, ‘Are you gloating with me, O Muawiya? Stranger than this was the day heasws called you to the duel, so your complexion quivered, and your ribs tightened, and your eyes bulged. By Allahazwj! Had you duelled himasws, your posterior would have pained, and your dependants would have been orphaned, and your authority would have been eclipsed’.

مناوي ل تشمت بفارس بدمة

لقم فارسا ل تنتليه الفوارس

أبصرت فم الحرب مقبل مناوي لو

أبا حسن يدوي علي الوساوس

ليقنت أن الموت حق و أنه

كض بالس لنفس سن لم تمنن الر

ت دونه الذن سذ دعا دعا فصم

عليدا البالس و نفس قد ضاقت

أ تشمت بم سذ نالنم حد رمحه

ضنم ناب من الحرب ناهس و عض

و أي أمر لقاه لم يلق شلوه

وامس بمنتر تسفى عليه الر

ه ليث غابة سل أن أبى للا

أبو أشبل تددى سليه الفرائس

فإن كنت فم ش فارهق عجاجة

هات البسابس و سل فتل التر

And Amro prosed – Muawiya, do not gloat with the active horsemen, you would meet a horseman who would ascend the cavalry. Muawiya, had you seen during the war facing, Abu Hassanasws would have plunged the obsessions upon you, and you would have been convinced that the death is the reality and that it is for yourself, the running would not have reflected the sincerity. Heasws called you, but your ears were muted when heasws called, and the Satansla had constricted yourself upon it. Are you gloating with me when the tip of hisasws spear took me, and the brass tooth of the war had stung me. And which matter befell, a body not falling in a melee upon which the sword clashed.

Allahazwj Refused except that heasws be a lion of the jungle, a father to whom the prey were guided to. So if you were in a doubt, then remove the cloud of dust, or else it is utter nonsense’.

و ل كل هذا قال أنت استدعيته. فقال مناوية مدل يا أبا عبد للا

So Muawiya said, ‘Mhu! No, Abu Abdullah, and do not be saying this!’ He said, ‘You invited it’.16

From Bakr Bin Muhammad Al Azdy who said,

‘Abu Abdullahasws said: ‘(Having) ourasws love, of the Peopleasws of the Household drops off the sins from the servant just as the strong wind drops off the leaves from the tree’’.17

اب بن رهما سرا و درهما مجاهد عن أبيه قال: كان لنلم ع أربنة دراهم فأنفق درهما ليل و درهما ندارا و د عن عبد الوها و ع دم و ل بوف عليدم و ل هم علنية فنزلت الية الذين ينفقون أموالدم بالليل و الندار سر لنية فلدم أجرهم عند رب

From Abdul Wahhab Bin Mujahid, from his father who said,

‘There were four Dirhams for Aliasws, so heasws spent one Dirham at night, and a Dirham at daytime, and a Dirham in secrecy, and a Dirham openly. So the Verse was Revealed - [2:274] (As for) those who are spending their property by the night and by the day, secretly and openly, they shall have their Recompense with their Lord and they shall have no fear, nor shall they be grieving’.18

اب قال د بن أعين عن أبم حازم مولى ابن عباس عن عمر بن البط : أببرنا ياسين بن محم

It was informed to us by Yasin Bin Muhammad Bin Ayn, from Abu Hazim a slave of Ibn Abbas, from Umar Bin Al Khattab who said,

‘Restrain yourselves from Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, for I heard Rasool-Allahsaww saying such characteristics regarding himasws, if even one characteristic from it was to be among the entirety of the family of Al Khattab, it would be more beloved to me than what the sun emerges upon!.

One day we were walking, I and Abu Bakr, and Abdul Rahman Bin Awf, and Usman Bin Affan, and Abu Ubeyda Bin Al Jarrah, and a number of our companions of Rasool-Allahsaww, and we ended up at the door of Umm Salmaas, and there we were with Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws reclining upon a bracket of the door. So we said to himasws, ‘We want (to see) Rasool-Allahsaww’. Heasws said: ‘Hesaww is in the house, hesaww will come out to yousaww shortly’.

منكبه فقال سن مباصم فتبصم بسبع بصال ليس قال فبرج علينا فجلسنا حوله فأتى علم بن أبم طالب ثم ضرب بيده على و أوفاهم ل المؤمنين سيمانا و أعلمدم بأمر للا هن سل فضل سن أو ة و أقس لحد بند عي و أرأفدم بالر ة و بندد للا وي مدم بالس

He (Umar) said, ‘So hesaww came out to us, and we sat around himasws, and Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws came over. Then hesaww struck hissaww hand upon hisasws shoulder and hesaww said: ‘You would be disputed against, so youasws should argue with seven characteristics which aren’t for anyone after these except as yourasws merits – Youasws are the first of the Momineen in Eman, and the most knowledgeable with the Commands of Allahazwj, and the most loyal of them with the Covenant of Allahazwj, and the most understanding of them with the citizens, and the most equitable of them with the equality, and the greatest of them in the Presence of Allahazwj of privileges’’.19

asws, saying, ‘It was narrated to me by Muhammad Bin Sallam Al Kufy, from Ahmad Bin Muhammad

Al Wasity, from Muhammad Bin Salih and Muhammad Bin Al Salt, from Umar Bin Yunus Al Yamany, from Al Kalby, from Abu Salih, from Ibn Abbas who said, ‘

ل يوم أبيه الحسن بن علم ع فم مرضه الذي توفم فيه فقال له كيف تجد يا أبم؟ قال أجدنم دبل الحسين بن علم على أونيا و أعلم أنم ل أسبق أجلم و أن ام الد ام البرة و آبر يوم من أي ي ع على كره منم لفراق و من أي م وارد على أبم و جد

فراق سبوت و فراق الحبة

‘Al-Husaynasws Bin Aliasws went over to hisasws brotherasws Al-Hassanasws Bin Aliasws during the illness in which heasws passed away, and heasws said to himasws: ‘How do youasws feel, O myasws brotherasws?’ Heasws said: ‘Iasws find myselfasws to be in the first day from the days of the Hereafter and the last day from days of the world, and Iasws know that Iasws cannot preceded myasws (Ordained) term, and Iasws would be returning to myasws fatherasws and myasws grandfathersaww, upon the dislike from mesaww of yourasws separation, and separation of yourasws brothers, and separation of the loved ones.

And Iasws seek Forgiveness of Allahazwj from myasws speech and Iasws repent to Himazwj. But upon love from measws is the meeting with Rasool-Allahsaww and Amir Al-Momineen Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws, may the Salawat be upon themasws and the greetings, and (meeting) myasws motherasws Fatimaasws, and Hamzaas, and Ja’faras. And for measws Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic is a Backer from every destroyer, and a consoling from every difficulty, and coming across from every this what is missed.

Myasws brotherasws! Iasws just saw myasws liver in the tray and have recognised the one who has deceived measws, and from where youasws are coming, so what would youasws do with him, O myasws brotherasws?’ Al-Husaynasws said: ‘Iasws will kill him, by Allahazwj!’. Heasws said: ‘By Allahazwj! Iasws will not inform youasws of him, ever, until Iasws meet Rasool-Allahsaww. But, write, O myasws brotherasws : -

وحده ل شري هذا ما أوصى به الحسن بن علم بن أبم طالب سلى أبيه الحسين بن علم أوصى سليه أن ه يشدد أن ل سله سل للاه ينبده ل و أنه له و أن ه أولى من عبد و بلق كل شم حق عبادته ل شري له فم المل و ل ولم له من الذ ره تقديرا و أن ء فقد

يه اهتدى أحق من حمد من أطاعه رشد و من عصاه غوى و من تاب سل

‘This is what Al-Hassanasws Bin Aliasws bequeaths to hisasws brotherasws Al-Husaynasws Bin Aliasws. Heasws bequeaths to himasws that heasws testifies that there is no god Except Allahazwj Alone, there being no associates for Himazwj, and heasws worships Himazwj with the right of Hisazwj worship. There is no associate for Himazwj in the Kingdom, nor is there a guardian for Himazwj from the Disgrace, and that Heazwj Created everything, so Heazwj Determined it with a Determination, and that Heazwj is the most entitled One to be worshipped, and the most rightful One to be praised. The one who obeys Himazwj is Guided and the one who disobeys Himazwj is lost, and the one who repents to Himazwj is Guided.

بلفا و ت من أهلم و ولدي و أهل بيت أن تصفح عن مسيئدم و تقبل من محسندم و تكون لدم فإنم أوصي يا حسين بمن بلف ن أدبل بيته بغير فإنم أحق به و ببيته مم سذنه و ل كتاب جاءهم من بنده والدا و أن تدفننم مع رسول للا

Iasws hereby bequeath youasws O Husaynasws, with the ones Iasws leave behind from myasws family members and myasws children, and yourasws family members, that youasws will excuse their offences and accept from their favours, and youasws would become a replacement for them and a father, and that youasws will bury measws along with Rasool-Allahsaww, for Iasws am most rightful with it, and with hissaww house, than the ones who entered into hissaww house without hissaww permission, and no Book has come to them from after himsaww.

Allahazwj the Exalted Said among what Heazwj Revealed unto Hisazwj Prophetsaww in Hisazwj Book [33:53] O you who believe! Do not enter the houses of the Prophet unless permission is given to you. So, by Allahazwj, hesaww did not permit regarding the entering into it during hissaww lifetime nor has there come to them the permission with regards to that from after hissaww passing away, and weasws are the permitted ones regarding the disposition in what weasws inherited it from after himsaww’.

أن ل فإن أبت علي المرأة فأ ة من رسول للا حم الماس ا و الر عز و جل من ب للا تريق فم محجمة دم نشد بالقرابة التم قراس سلي ص فنبتصم سليه و نببره بما كان من الن ثم قبض ع نا بنده حتى نلقى رسول للا

But if the woman (Ayesha) refuses upon youasws, so Adjure youasws by the close relationship which Rasool-Allahsaww is close from usasws, and the aching womb from Rasool-Allahsaww, that youasws will not spill the blood during the reluctance until weasws meet Rasool-Allahsaww, so weasws shall be disputing to himsaww and weasws shall inform himsaww with what occurred from the people to useasws after himsaww’. Then heasws passed away.

اس فقال اغ قال ابن بن النب بن جنفر و علم بن عبد للا طناه و عباس فدعانم الحسين ع و عبد للا لناه و حن كم فغس سلوا ابن عماه ثم برجنا به حتى صلينا علي ه فم المسجد و أن الحسين أمر أن يفتح البيت ألبسناه و أكفن

Ibn Abbas said, ‘So Al-Husaynasws called me, and Abdullah Bin Ja’far, and Ali Bin Abdullah Bin Al-Abbas, and heasws said: ‘Wash (for funeral) the sonasws of your uncleasws’. So we washed himasws and embalmed himasws, and clothed himasws and enshrouded himasws. Then we came out with himasws until we prayed Salat over himasws in the Masjid, and Al-Husaynasws ordered that the house (of Rasool-Allahsaww) be opened.

So that was prevented by Marwan Bin Al-Hakam, and the family of Abu Sufyan and the ones who were present over there from the children of Usman Bin Affan, and they said, ‘The commander of the faithful Usman, the martyr killed unjustly is buried at Al-Baqi’e in an evil place, and Al-Hassanasws is to be buried with Rasool-Allahsaww?’ That will never happen to be, ever, until the swords break between us and the spears are thrown, and the blood flows’.

So Al-Husaynasws said: ‘By Allahazwj Who Sanctified Makkah! And for Al-Hassanasws Bin Aliasws sonasws of Fatimaasws is more deserving (to be) with Rasool-Allahsaww and hissaww house than the ones who entered hissaww house without hissaww permission, and heasws is, by Allahazwj, more rightful with it than the bearer of the sins who caused Abu Zarrra to

He (Ibn Abbas) said, ‘So we carried himasws and came with himasws to the grave of hisasws motherasws Fatimaasws, to herasws side’.

Ibn Abbas said, ‘So I was the first one to leave, and I heard a buzz and it subsided, and Al-Husaynasws hastened to the one who had come, and I saw a person and knew the evil in him. So I turned initiating, and there was Ayesha riding upon a mule, among forty riders, preceding them and instructing them with the fighting. So when she saw me, she said to me, ‘O Ibn Abbas! You have been audacious upon me in the world. You are hurting me time and again. Are you all intending to enter into my house the one whom I neither wish for nor like?’

و و بين فقلت وا سوأتاه يوم على بغل و يوم على جمل تريدين أن تطفئم نور للا و تحولم بين رسول للا تقاتلم أولياء للا عز و جل المئونة و دفن الحسن ع سلى جانب ه حبيبه أن يدفن منه ارجنم فقد كفى للا تنالى سل أم قربا و ما فلم يزدد من للا

منه سل بندا يا سوأتاه انصرفم فقد رأيت ما سر ازددتم و للا

So I said, ‘Wah, the evil of it. One day upon a mule and one day upon a camel. Are you intending to extinguish the Light of Allahazwj and fight against the friends of Allahazwj and to terrify me between Rasool-Allahsaww and hissaww beloved to be buried with himsaww? Return, for Allahazwj Mighty and Majestic Suffices as an Aider, and Al-Hassanasws is (now) buried to the side of hisasws motherasws. So heasws not not Increase from Allahazwj the Exalted except for the closeness, and you all will not be increasing from Himazwj, by Allahazwj, except for remoteness. O the evil of it! Leave, for you have seen what you cheer you’.

كم لذوو أح قال ما نسيته أهل فقطبت فم وجدم و نادت بأعلى صوتدا أ و ما نسيتم الجمل يا ابن عباس؟ سن قاد فقلت أم و للاماء فكيف ينساه أهل الرض فانصرفت و هم تقول الس

He said, ‘So she scowled in my face and called out in a high voice, ‘Or you have not forgotten the day of the camel (battle of Al Basra), O Ibn Abbas? You were all with grudges’. So I said, ‘Or, by Allahazwj, the inhabitants of the sky have not forgotten, so how can the people of the earth forget?’ So she left and she was saying (in prose), ‘So

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Quteyba Bin Saeed, from Yaqoub Bin Abdul Rahman, from Abu Hazim,

‘He heard Sahl Bin Sa’ad and he was asking about the wounds of Rasool-Allahsaww. He said, ‘By Allahazwj! I recognise the one who was washing (the wounds) of Rasool-Allahsaww, and the one who was pouring the water’.

ا رأت فاطمة أن ثم تغسله و علم يسكب الماء بالمجن قال فلم م سل كثرة أبذت قطنة قال كانت بنت رسول للا الماء ل يزيل الد ص يومئذ و جرح وجده و كسرت البيضة على من حصير فأحرقتدا و ألصقتدا فاستمس الد م و كسرت رباعية رسول للا

رأسه.

Then he said, ‘It was the daughterasws of Rasool-Allahsaww washing himsaww and Aliasws pouring the water with the shield’. So when Fatimaasws saw that the water was not stopping the blood (flow) as it was a lot, sheasws took a piece of a mat and burnt it and stuck it, and the blood flow stopped, and the teeth of Rasool-Allahsaww broke on that day, and hissaww head was injured, and sheasws put a bandage upon hissaww head’’.21

From Ibn Abbas who said, ‘When Zaynab, daughter of Rasool-Allahsaww passed away, hesaww paused, meaning Rasool-Allahsaww, on the edge of the grave, and Fatimaasws was crying. So hesaww kept on taking hissaww cloth and wiping herasws eyes. So Umar showed his disapproval. So hesaww said: ‘O Umar! Leave them, for the eyes are tearful and the soul is suffering so one cries. And beware of the trap of the Satanla, for it is so that whatever is from the heart and the eyes, so it is from Allahazwj, and whatever happens from the hand the tongue, so it is from the Satanla.22

Judgment, the Bridge would be established upon the edge of Hell, so none shall cross it except the one with whom would be a clearance with the Wilayah of Aliasws Bin Abu Talibasws’’.23

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Umar Bin Abdullah Bin Ya’la Bin Murra Al Saqafy, from his father, from his grandfather Ya’la Bin Murra who said,

ص يقول ل الناس سمنت رسول للا را من أطاع فقد أطاعنم و من أطاعنم : يا علم أنت بير الناس بندي و أنت أو تصد فقد أحب و من أحب و من عصا فقد عصانم و من عصانم فقد عصى للا و من فقد أطاع للا نم و من أحبنم فقد أحب للا

أبغض فق د أبغضنم و من أبغضنم فقد أبغض للا

‘I heard Rasool-Allahsaww saying: ‘O Aliasws! Youasws are the best of the people after mesaww, and youasws first of the people to take the lead (to guide). The one who obeys youasws so he has obeyed mesaww, and the one who obeys mesaww so he has obeyed Allahazwj; and the one who disobeys youasws so he has disobeyed mesaww, and the one who disobeys mesaww so he has disobeyed Allahazwj; and the one who loves youasws so he has loved mesaww and the one who loves mesaww, so he has loved Allahazwj; and the one who hates youasws so he has hated mesaww, and the one who hates mesaww so he has hated Allahazwj.

كافر.يا علم ل يحب سل مؤمن و ل يبغض سل منافق أو

O Aliasws! None would love youasws except for a Momin, none would hate you except for a hypocrite or a disbeliever’’.24

يمم عن أبم مبلد عن ابن د بن داود الرفلم عن هوذة عن سليمان الت ثنا محم ص و قال: حد مسنود قال: نظر سلم رسول للا ما منزلة علم من ؟ عز و جل. هو واضع كفه فم كف علم ع مبتسما فم وجده فقلت يا رسول للا قال كمنزلتم عند للا

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Muhammad Bin Dawood Al Rafly, from Howzat, from Suleyman Al Tameemy, from Abu Makhlad, from Ibn Masoud who said,

‘Rasool-Allahsaww looked at me and hesaww had placed hissaww hand in the hand of Aliasws, having a smile in hissaww face. So I said, ‘O Rasool-Allahsaww! What is the status of Aliasws from yousaww?’ Hesaww said: ‘Like mysaww status in the Presence of Allahazwj’’.25

He said, ‘It was narrated to us by Yahya Bin Qays Al Kindy, from Abu Jaroud, from Habeeb Bin Bisharat, from Zazan, from Jareer who said,

ة و بلغ واديا يقال له وادي بم به غدير قام فم المداجر بط ا قفل النبم ص من مك يبا فأبذ بيد علم ع فقال من كنت موله لم فدذا له مولى قد بلغت

‘When the Prophetsaww returned from Makkah and reached a valley called the valley of Khumm, by it was a stream. Hesaww stood addressing among the Emigrants, and hesaww grabbed the hand of Aliasws and hesaww said: ‘The one whose Master Isaww was, so this Aliasws is his Master. Isaww had delivered’.

ص سمنوا كما سمنت ثم عد أصحاب -قال زاذان قلت لجرير من حضر ذل الموضع ؟ فقال جماعة من أصحاب رسول للا فلم يبق مندم سل من نسم ذكره و ذكر أبو بكر و عمر.رسول للا

Zazan said, ‘So I said to Jareer, ‘Who was present at that place?’ So he said, ‘A group of the companions of Rasool-Allahsaww. They heard just as you heard’. Then he counted the companions of Rasool-Allahsaww, and there did not remain except for the ones he forgot to mention, and he did mention Abu Bakr and Umar’’.26
