Pellegrini thrilled by
match-winner aguero
London, Oct 20: Manchester City manager Manuel Pel-legrini praised Sergio Aguero after the Argentine helped his side finally pick up their first away win of the season in the Premier League. Aguero scored twice either side of half-time and then set up David Silva for a late goal as City moved up to fourth place in the table with a 3-1 win at West Ham United on Saturday. They had come into this game looking to throw off their 'Jekyll and Hyde' image so far this season after three previous away matches had yielded just one point. And after Aguero's heroics ended their away hoodoo, Pellegri-ni is hopeful they can now build on that success. "One point from nine is not a good average and before we started the game, Chelsea and Arsenal had both won their match-es, so it was important not to lose any more points," he said. "I'm very pleased. The most important thing was to win, but we continued to play the same way as we have been. I told the players to have patience and keep moving the ball. I think we did it very well and deserved our victory." Pellegrini added: "Sergio is a top player who makes an impor-tant difference. He didn't play the second game with Argentina in mid-week, so he was fresh."

Mohali, Oct 20: Ishant Sharma bore the brunt of James Faulkner's conscious decision to go after seam-ers in the third ODI and the game-changing Australian all-rounder offered his sym-pathies to the Indian spear-head, saying that every bowler has days when he ends up looking "silly out there". Faulkner's 29-ball 64 turned the match on its head last night as Australia chased down 304 with three balls and four wickets to spare. Faulkner particularly targetted Ishant in the 48th over, plundering 30 runs off it which changed the course of the game. Faulkner hit a boundary followed by two huge sixes, then stole a double and to add insult to the injury, once again dispatched Ishant's last two balls for the maximum in that over. Later, he sympathised with Ishant, saying this can happen to any good bowler. "There is always pressure to bowl at that stage. I know that as I have done that a few
times for Australia...there are going to be days when you would look silly out there, and that has happened to me a lot of times, don't worry about that," Faulkner said. "But there are also other
times when you might bowl a good over and win a game for your team, that's cricket," he added. The seven-match series is right now 2-1 in favour of Aus-tralia. Faulkner said after the mauling in the second ODI in Jaipur, the visitors' plan was to target the medium pacers when the asking rate was mounting towards the end last night. "I didn't feel I could get Ashwin over the long bound-ary, with his carom balls," Faulkner told a post-match press conference here. "I thought the only way we could win the game is to take on the medium pacers down from the other end and try and take 20 off each over...that was our only chance to be honest," he said. "It was a kick in the guts, the second game in Jaipur. To score 360 and have them chase down the total was really disappointing. We knew we had to bounce back with a good game and now we are 2-1 up in the series. It's going to be a really tough con-test for the next four games," he added.

Dubai, Oct 20: Pakistan coach Dav Whatmore is wary of world number one Test team South Africa bouncing back in the second Test start-ing in Dubai on Wednesday. Pakistan won the first Test in Abu Dhabi by seven wickets on Thursday, but Whatmore recalled a per-sonal experience of South Africa's resilience when he was the coach of Sri Lanka in 2000/2001. "This South African unit is quite resilient," said What-more on Sunday. "I've had a first hand experience in Sri Lanka where they lost by an innings in Galle and came back to win in Kandy," said Whamore of the series in Sri Lanka. "I think there was a drawn game in Colombo so it was 1-1 series, so you leave them off at your peril." South Africa's unbeaten run away from home since losing to Sri Lanka in 2006 is also under threat and What-more said Pakistan will do their best to win. "Well 1-0 is just as good as I think because a hard fought draw is also very important for any team, having been 1-0 up in the series, but we enter the game to win," said Whatmore, whose team lost to Zimbabwe in the second Test in a 1-1 drawn series last month.
SA await Amla, Donald
returnsDubai, Oct 20: South Africa are anxiously waiting on star batsman Hashim Amla's return to Dubai in time for the second Test against Pakistan starting from Wednes-day, team manager Muhammed Mossajee said. Amla is in Durban with his wife for the imminent birth of the couple's second child. Team manager Muhammed Mossajee told reporters after team practice on Sunday: "We are still waiting for Amla to return." Meanwhile, bowling coach Alan Donald has returned home on family business. "Alan (Donald) has returned home for family reasons, he has been granted excess leave, we are not sure whether he will return or not because he needs some time to sort things out," said Moosajee. Donald, 47, had 330 Tests and 272 one-day wickets during an illustrious career for South Africa and has been bowling coach since last year. Vincent Barnes, who is the high performance coach in South Africa, and is also a selector, who was due to join for the one-days will be arriving on Monday to take care of the bowling coach duties, said the manager. Both teams play five one-day and two Twenty20 internationals after the two-Test series. South African coach Russell Domingo hoped anyone replacing Amla will come good. "Hashim needed to be with his wife and that's out of our control, we craved to have him in the side and craved to have him in the side not just as a player but as a personality in the side," said Domingo of the star batsman who hit 118 runs in South African first innings in Abu Dhabi.
