Staging: o Wood backdrop o Tree Standee o Cardboard fireplace o Christmas trees o Buffalo Plaid wrapped gifts

Game: o The Generous Neighbor

o Supplies needed: ! Red Balloons (at least 7) ! Green Balloons (at least 7) ! Painter’s or Masking Tape (to divide the room) ! Candy Prize (enough for half of the group)

o How to Play: ! Divide the room into two sections by using a strip of

tape. ! When the host says go, balloons are going to be

released. As the generous neighbors, the goal is to send as many of YOUR team’s color of balloons to the other side as possible. When the buzzer stops, time is up. Whichever team has the most balloons on their neighbor’s side is the winner.

Worship o The kids will be continuing to learn the song “Emmanuel” for

worship. Hand out the lyric sheet and have the host help to lead them in worship.

Hey, hey, everybody! Great to see you today. Can you believe it is December? Crazy!

• All right, let’s be honest about something right out of the gate. How many of you made a Christmas list this year? Come on . . . be honest! A long list of stuff you want? (Look at hands.)

• Yep, there we go! I see those hands! You know what? Even I made a Christmas list this year!

• But let’s find out . . . what is something on your Christmas list? Turn and tell the person next to yoooooouuuuu . . . NOW! (Give kids a moment to share)

• I heard a lots of good stuff on your lists. . . I’m coming to your house for Christmas!

• Now, it’s easy to get caught up in all the presents and lights. I want to make sure we really pay attention to what the true celebration of Christmas.

• I feel like we’re really going to have to concentrate to make that happen, so I asked my friend Daryl the llama to help us with our concentration.

Did Daryl distract you? • Well don’t be distracted right now, because what we are focusing on

this series in the GREATEST gift ever given! • You see, Christmas is about more than getting earthly presents. It’s

about an eternal present that God gave us! And that is a Savior! • Why would God do such a thing? Because He is a generous God. Does

anyone know what generosity means? (Wait for response) • Generosity happens when someone gives something away, like their

time or money or even toys in order to make another person feel great! Let’s read that definition together!

Generosity is making someone’s day by giving something away. • I have another game for us to play to teach us generosity. • And today’s game is called “The Generous Neighbor”. In just a minute,

when I tell you to, you will stand up where you are. The room is divided into two sections by this (indicate tape) strip of tape.

• If you’re standing on this side, (indicate one side of the room), you’re the red balloon team. And you’ll face the other side (indicate the other side of the room), which is the green balloon team, and they will face you.

• On my count, I’m going to release a bunch of red and green balloons. As the generous neighbors that I know you are, your goal is to send as many of YOUR color of balloons to the other side as possible.

• But because you’re so generous, you’ll also try to send back the other team’s balloons too.

• You’ll only have 60 seconds to complete the task. • Whichever team has more of their team’s balloons on the other team’s

Give_Worship

That was so much fun! (Award candy prize to winning team) But stay standing because now we are going to worship together. And if you recall, we will be leading a song in the adult worship center in 2 weeks. Our song is called “Emmanuel” which means “God with us”. Does anyone know who was called Emmanuel? (Wait for response)

• Jesus is our Emmanuel! We are also passing out your very own lyric sheet! The lyrics to the song are on the sheet so you can take the words home to practice. Let’s worship!

Give_Lesson • Great time of worship! We’re going to ask everyone to wear red or

green on the day you sing in the adult worship center. • The Bible has a lot to say about God’s Generosity. • Today we’re going to check out the book of 1 John. • John, one of Jesus’ first disciples, wrote a letter to people who were

starting the first churches ever. John wanted them to remember a few things about God’s love for us and how we can show that love to others.

Give_Logo_Slide Often times, we do things that are wrong. God calls that sin. God is perfect, and our sin makes us NOT perfect. Our sin separates us from God who is holy.

Our sin keeps us from having a relationship with God. • But the amazing thing is that God made it clear to the whole world that

He still loves us and still wants a relationship with us! • With that love in mind, God did something extreme. He did something

amazing. He did something generous! • In order to show us how much He loves us, God sent His one and only

Son into the world to die on the cross to take the punishment for our sin. Jesus didn’t stay dead – He raised back to life – showing He did have power over sin and death.

• Because of the generous way God gave, we can also give generously. Which brings us to our Bottom Line for today!

• God loved, so God gave. • We love God, so we should give too! Pretty simple huh? • We can be generous to others because God has been so

generous to us. When we show others generosity, we show them God’s love.

Give_Offering_Slide You can practice generosity by giving offering! For the month of December, we are challenging everyone to be a light in our city through our offering. How does offering do that?

• You’re giving thanks to God for His blessings, and you’re helping to give HOPE to those who will hear the message of the Gospel through your offering. They will hear that Jesus is the light of the world!

I’m so excited for our December Family Mission. We are continuing our Family Mission: Love Gives!

• Why am I excited? Because there is still time to get gifts for our Love Gives Christmas tree!

• We are asking that you and your family purchase one of the gifts listed on one of the Christmas tags located on the Love Gives Christmas tree!

• Then, bring the UNwrapped gift to church and place it under our Love Gives Christmas tree.

• These gifts will be given to families in need in our community. • Don’t forget to tell your Small Group/Way Station leader when you’ve

completed the mission to receive a pin!
