doing goodthe healing power of

You know helping others feels good. But did you know it’s good for you?

Research shows ongoing volunteering (around eight hours per month), with personal contact with those helped, reduces stress. Lower stress, in turn, can boost the immune system. People who volunteered in this way were 10 times more likely to report being in good health compared to those who didn’t do this kind of helping.*

Given that, helping others through your local healthcare foundation just might be the healthiest kindness of all. It’s good for your family, your community — and you.

The Wolf River Area Healthcare Foundation appreciates the good you do when you give.

Your gifts, after all, have the power to heal.

I truly believe your mental health can positively affect your physical health.

After moving to New London in 2004, Joyce Sykes (pictured on left) connected with her new community as an NLFMC Auxiliary volunteer. Dolly Knapstein (pictured on right) encouraged her to get involved.

The greatest

joys in life are those

shared with others. That’s

why your support of the Wolf River Area

Healthcare Foundation is

such a joy for each of us.

As the Foundation’s leaders, we plant the seeds of enhanced healthcare, but you

make them grow.

There was much growth to celebrate in 2010. Deborah Johnson, CFRE, became the Foundation’s

executive director. Seven grants enhanced emergency care. An expanded chemotherapy suite began to bloom.

With your ongoing support, 2011 will be just as fruitful. The chemotherapy suite has been completed, and other

projects are germinating.

None of this would be possible

without you.

Thank you for improving the health

of your community.

Thanks to your support, a new project began to bloom in 2010:

a chemotherapy suite growing to serve cancer patients and their loved ones better.

The project relocates chemotherapy treatment to a suite overlooking Mosquito Hill. Picture windows offer beautiful views and fill the space with light.

Best of all, the suite nearly triples the size of the previous facility. For patients, this means greater comfort, privacy and the most soothing medicine of all — room for a companion.

When you’re facing cancer, having your family close is more important than ever. This new facility makes that possible.

Janice Hidde received chemotherapy at New London Family Medical Center in 2009.

Challenge community

members to become friends of the Foundation with gifts supporting New

London Family Medical Center.

Hundreds of you responded.

Thanks to your gifts, beautiful things have taken root at your community hospital

and beyond.

Each colorful friend lining New London Family Medical Center’s halls represents a donor of $100 or more. The circle of friends will continue to grow in 2011.

First Responder GrantsYour financial support helped fund vital radio system upgrades for area first responders. Six groups received matching grants to encourage further philanthropy: Black Creek Area First Responders, Clintonville Area Ambulance, Fremont Wolf River EMS, Hortonville Area EMS, New London Emergency Medical Responders and Shiocton-Bovina EMS.

Emergency Clothing Your gifts clothed and comforted patients in times of need. A $1,000 grant stocked New London Family Medical Center’s emergency department with apparel for individuals whose emergencies and the care they require leave their own clothes unfit to wear.

Community BreakfastAt May’s community breakfast, more than 100 people learned how patient-focused enhancements have made local healthcare more convenient at New London’s surgery center, specialty physician area and primary care clinic.

Family Movie NightsFamilies got an up-close look at the ThedaStar helicopter and enjoyed an outdoor movie at New London and Clintonville high schools.

Autumn GalaSeptember’s seventh annual dinner kicked off fundraising for the hospital’s new chemotherapy infusion suite. Its 250 attendees became the first of the Foundation’s 1,000 Friends, with gifts netting more than $68,000 for Foundation projects.

Estate Planning WorkshopSome 40 participants in November’s estate planning workshop got tips from local professionals to help simplify end-of-life issues. The event covered living wills, healthcare documents and financial planning.

The Foundation served its communities in 2010 with events traditional and new.

Board president Harry Radix was one of the Foundation’s first Friends, helping plant the seed for its founding in 2003.

The longtime hospital board member’s 20-year commitment to local healthcare was recognized in November. He received the 2010 Outstanding Fundraising Volunteer Award from the Northeast Wisconsin chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

a community takes more

than exceptional equipment and

facilities. It calls for the care of devoted

professionals.

New London medical staff members are committed to local healthcare, for today and for the future. In 2010, they

awarded $12,000 in scholarships through the Foundation to area high school graduates

pursuing studies in healthcare fields.
