DC’S REPORT BY DEB RAFFLE February 2015 DC Newsletter Welcome back everyone form the Christmas, New Year’s break. Hope you are all looking forward to Pony club on the 1 st of February! We are extremely lucky to have secured 6 main instructors for 2015: 1. Megan Campbell 2. Alex Maurer 3. Lucy Gunn 4. Sam Ferrari 5. Maureen Hall 6. Cassie Deverall The aim is for consistency to try to upgrade skills significantly this year. I think everyone will benefit from getting to know their instructors and them getting to know you. Each of our instructors have great experience and teaching skills. Please take a moment to look at their profiles on the Website. We will introduce a more varied junior program for the White and Green groups to include Show Jumping, Cross country, Games, Flat and Handy Mount. This will mean having 4 sessions for the white and green groups however the last one is always optional to cater for those who are a bit frayed at the end for the day (either rider or parent)! Most rallies are organised for the year and sessions reflect what is required to compete at events on the Central Zone Calendar. I will be doing a presentation to riders and parents at the February rally with the aim of presenting: what we are aiming to achieve at Pony Club how GPC fits in the bigger Pony Club Australia picture who is on the GPC committee and their roles the syllabus for learning at Pony Club which we follow and use to structure the riders lessons The 2015 instructors – meet and outline experience An overview of the lessons planned for 2015 We have a Musical ride team, Flat team and Games teams to represent us at Zone level this year. The response has been very good. It’s great to see you all out there practicing together and having a few laughs as well. Gisborne Pony Club Febuary 2015 Newsletter

There  are  new  rules  for  Horse  Trial.    Cross  Country  jump  heights  have  increased  by  5cm,  I  will  be  reviewing  our  riders  grading’s  at  the  February  rally.  The  new  Dressage  rules  also  state  that  you  cannot  call  a  dressage  test  for  Horse  Trial,  Combined  Training  or  Short  Course  Dressage  nor  at  State  Dressage  Championships.    The  only  time  a  test  can  be  called  is  for  pure  dressage  only.  I  have  invited  Maldon  Pony  Club  to  join  us  for  a  rally  of  their  choice  this  year.  I  have  explained  we  do  not  have  the  facilities  for  a  camp  over  but  they  are  welcome  to  come  for  a  rally.  They  seem  keen  and  will  get  back  to  me.  It  would  be  great  to  offer  some  hospitality  after  the  terrific  camp  we  had  their  in  December.  I’m  sure  we  will  make  them  most  welcome.  Look  out  in  the  next  Pony  club  Magazine  ‘Making  a  difference”  for  2  articles  I  submitted.  One  on  the  joint  Maldon  rally  which  bridged  two  Zones  and  one  on  our  junior  program.  Not  sure  if  they  will  print  either,  we  will  have  to  wait  and  see.    Look  forward  to  seeing  you  all  at  the  February  Rally!

Rally  Planning          Please  let  Deb  know  if  you  want  to  attend  the  rally  so  she  can  plan  groups  accordingly  on  email    [email protected] or phone 0419 875 745 so  she  plan  numbers  and  know  who  to  expect.

Attendance  book  and  cards  and  gear  check:  Make  sure  you  sign  into  the  attendance  book  before  gear  check  and  put  your  card  in  the  box.  It  is  essential  that  these  things  are  done  before  the  rally  starts  and  that  gear  check  starts  on  time  in  your  groups.  You  need  to  be  ticked  off  in  order  for  your  attendance  to  be  recorded  both  for  card  signing  and  to  earn  your  full  attendance  medal  at  the  end  of  year  presentations.    If  you  would  like  attendance  recorded  for  2  horses  (you  can  ride  a  horse  in  1  ridden  session  to  claim  a  rally  attendance)  make  sure  both  horses  names  are  recorded  on  the  gear  check  sheet  and  also  let  Allison  Codling  the  Card  Secretary  aware.

RIDER  PROFILE:  Ebony  Hannemann    • When  did  you  start  riding?  I  started  riding  when  I  was  1.  My  pop  would  lead  me  around  on  Kneehigh  the  Shetland  pony.  I  started  riding  independently  when  I  was  5  years  old.      • What  was  the  name  of  your  first  horse?  My  first  horses  name  was  Milly,  Milly  was  a  welsh  mountain  cross  Shetland  pony.      •  When  did  you  join  Gisborne  Pony  Club?  I  joined  Gisborne  PC  in  July  2015.      •  What  is  your  horses  name  and  what  do  you  love  most  about  your  horse?  Tell  us  about  him//her?  My  current  horses  name  is  Honey  and  what  I  love  about  her  is  that  she  is  absolutely  amazing  at  jumping  and  also  good  at  dressage.    Sometimes  she  can  be  a  little  cheeky,  which  makes  riding  her  even  more  fun.      •  What  funny  /silly  or  serious  stories  do  you  have  to  tell  about  your  horse  or  riding  experiences?  One  of  the  funniest  things  about  my  riding  experiences  was  when  I  was  riding  my  old  horse  Tex,  we  were  down  at  the  shed  at  our  property  at  Talbot  and  he  kept  on  putting  his  head  down  to  eat  the  grass  and  every  time  he  did  this  I  would  roll  over  the  top  of  his  head  onto  the  ground.  Once  we  put  the  grass  reins  on  him  he  stopped  doing  it.      •  What  do  you  love  most  about  Gisborne  Pony  Club?  The  best  thing  about  Gisborne  PC  is  the  lessons,  because  you  don’t  do  the  same  thing  every  rally.    Eg.  Clipping  a  horse.  Different  X  country  jumps  every  time.    Fun  games  like  polo  cross.      • If  you  compete  what  do  you  like  doing  most  and  how  have  you  gone?  To  be  honest  I  like  everything.    In  combined  training  days,  I’ve  come  1st  and  2nd  in  grade  5  open.    In  show  jumping  bonanzas  I  have  come  3rd  in  F  grade  open  and  3rd  and  4th  in  E  grade  open.  I  am  looking  forward  to  competing  in  many  more  comps.    •  What  other  horse  activities  do  you  do  eg  polocrosse,  trail  riding,  camping  with  your  horses?  Every  year  during  the  January  School  holidays  I  go  up  to  Mansfield  to  Lovicks  for  a  week  and  go  on  Horse  camp.    I  enjoy  going  trail  riding  up  in  the  bush  behind  my  Nan  and  Pops  house.  I  also  enjoy  attending  Clinics,  so  far  I  have  attended  several  clinics  with  Megan  Jones,  Sally  Hudson  and  Kim  Jacobson  and  have  learnt  so  much  from  them  all.      • What  do  you  want  to  do  in  the  future  with  horses?  My  goal  is  to  be  a  competent  horse  rider,  compete  in  the  Olympic  Games  and  be  very  successful  in  it.        • And  anything  else  you  like!!!!!  I  enjoy  riding  so  much.    I  love  coming  home  from  PC,  or  a  Comp,  lessons  with  Sally  or  a  clinic  and  think  about  what  I  have  learnt,    what  I  can  work  on  and  improve  and  what  a  good  job  I  did.  I  also  feel  very  proud  of  what  I  have  achieved  so  far.      Thanks  Ebony

Instructor  Profile  -‐  Lucy  Gunn    I  am  24  and  have  been  riding  for  11  years.  I  was  14  when  I  got  my  first  horse  and  started  Pony  Club  when  I  was  16  in  Gr  4.  My  riding  is  now  focused  in  the  chosen  discipline  of  eventing.  I  have  recently  sold  a  horse  so  now  only  have  one  horse  competing.        I  have  just  completed  a  diploma  in  Equine  Business  Management  at  Marcus  Oldham  College  in  Geelong.  I  have  previously  completed  a  University  degree  in  Interior  Design  which  I  finished  at  the  end  of  2011.I  have  completed  my  Level  1  NCAS  coaching  and  have  begun  my  level  two  coaching.      I  am  currently  setting  up  a  business  at  home  for  agistment,  training  and  competing  client’s  horses  and  purchasing  some  young  horses  to  sell  on.  I  am  also  available  for  coaching  dressage,  show  jumping  and  cross  country  lessons.      Since  starting  riding  when  I  was  12,  I  have  owned  four  horses  and  have  campaigned  a  horse  for  sale.  All  my  horses  have  achieved  great  results.  My  first  horse  was  a  16  year  old  schoolmistress  WB  who  had  evented  to  novice  level  when  she  was  younger.  She  was  a  great  first  horse  who  came  home  with  a  ribbon  if  not  a  trophy  after  every  event.  At  the  age  of  19  she  went  back  to  her  original  owner  of  15yrs  where  she  is  still  teaching  children  to  ride,  now  at  25years.  My  next  horse  took  me  to  PCAV  State  dressage  three  years  in  a  row,  and  State  horse  trials  two  years  in  a  row.  He  also  took  me  to  PCA  Nationals  in  2011  in  dressage  and  took  me  from  a  Gr  4  pony  club  to  Gr  1  in  three  short  years.  I  then  purchased  Ray,  who  is  my  current  super  star.  Raymond  K  has  taken  me  from  a  preliminary  eventer  to  one  star  rider  in  one  year,  and  now  we  have  completed  our  first  two  star  event.  Ray  has  given  me  the  dream  of  becoming  a  4*  eventer.      Current  Horses:    Raymond  K  (Ray)-‐

I  have  owned  Ray  for  3  years,  and  in  that  time  we  have  been  very  successful.  Ray  is  a  13yo,  grey,  17.1hh  WB  x  TB  by  Daley  K.  He  was  purchased  from

Cindy  Morrison  who  is  a  successful  show  jumper  based  in  Officer,  where  he  was  competing  C  Gr  EA  show  jumping  and  One  Star  eventing.  Ray  and  I  have  been  competing  mostly  in  eventing  with  some  dressage  and  combined  training  days.  Ray  has  recently  come  back  into  work  after  being  out  for  10  months  with  an  injury.  We  were  unable  to  qualify  for  Adelaide  2  star  this  year  but  hope  to  next  year.      Tooleybuc    Tooleybuc  was  purchased  from  Blackall  Park  stud.  He  is  a  three  year  old  gelding  by  Daley  K,  one  of  two  of  the  last  geldings  sired  by  this  successful  stallion  before  he  died  early  last  year.  He  is  also  a  full  brother  to  previously  owned  Chris  Heights  D’Aartagnan,  who  was  a  successful  three  star  eventer  and  now  a  show  jumper.  The  plan  for  Tooleybuc  is  to  hopefully  become  a  four  star  eventer,  and  who  knows  where  he  could  take  me  in  the  eventing  world.
