Peter’s Piece:

Thank you to Rod, Evan and James for clearing fallen branches and for “discouraging “ our Euro-

pean wasps from nesting in one of our trees. Great community spirit, truly appreciated by one

and all.

Our working bee has been postponed into early term 2.

Thank you to all those parents hearing their children read. This simple task is so valuable and

reinforces the team approach to the total education of our students.

Please pay your fees before the end of term. Fees were set at the last school council meeting at

the highly reduced rate of $80 per child. If you have three or more students attending Girgarre

Primary you are only required to pay for the first two. These fees go towards providing pencils,

books and pens for every student and pay for the Marc ($30) and Macc ($30) visits. So ex-

tremely reasonable.

As mentioned in an earlier newsletter Girgarre Primary is attending the Lion King stage perfor-

mance in Melbourne on June 24th at 1pm. The school will pay for the students. There are a

limited number of seats available to parents and grandparents at the reduced cost of $70 each.

We will have about 25 of these available but need to have them paid for by the end of term .

So far 8 have been snapped up so first in best dressed. It will be a fantastic day and a great

learning experience. There will be room on the bus.

Tomorrow our school is hosting a Kathy Walker literacy in-service for teachers from Merrigum,

Nanneella, Colbinabbin and Girgarre. Therefore this is a pupil free day. I thank Merryn for

organising this.

Please find attached on todays newsletter, our parents and friends group footy tipping.

Girgarre Primary Class News

Fact of The Week

In 3/4/5 we are now looking at building our

knowledge of random facts. Each week we will

have a random fact on our fact wall. If the students

find out an interesting fact, please encourage them

to write it down and bring it in. It might make the

fact wall !

Library– 18th March

Next Library session will not be run by Miss Smith,

there will be another teacher running it. Miss

Smith is the only one who can borrow books from

the van, so please be aware that for the next Li-

brary session there will be no borrowing available.

Class Meeting

On Thursdays, at this stage once per month, our

class is getting together for a class meeting. In this

time they are encouraged to share any issues or

positives from school as well as the world news.

There is an agenda which is to be filled out before

the meetings. It would be great if you could discuss

some world events with your children, they may

then like to bring that knowledge to our class

meeting. It’s really important as the students ad-

vance into the senior school that they build an ap-

preciation for what is happening around them. This

is a great chance to build on their knowledge of

current affairs.

Thankyou to the Prep parents for returning the

school nurse envelopes.

Values

The new students of 2015 are quickly learning

of the 4 respect values that we treasure at

GPS. This positive behaviour system encour-

ages and promotes our students to be respon-

sible and respectful citizens. Please find an

attached copy of our Respect Values and ex-

pectations matrix.

Last week our focus for our values lesson was

“what makes a good friend?” We made a list

on the board of good traits we look for in

friends. We then talked about some scenarios

and the choices that good friends and bad

friends might each choose to do in that situa-

tion. Many were very enthusiastic at the

chance to be actors and actresses during role

play.
