Gimp Download Page
Go to the Start menu
Go to All Programs and open Gimp 2
Gimp is an open source download that is about as powerful as Photoshop Elements but…
it’s FREE!!
![Page 5: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
After you transfer your photos to your hard drive or flash drive choose one to open
Check the number of pixels and the percentage of the picture that you are viewing
![Page 6: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/6.jpg)
Go to the Image Menu and choose Scale Image
![Page 7: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)
In the Scale Image windowChoose inches instead of pixels for Width
![Page 8: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
As you see, a picture 3264
pixels wide is
45 inches wide!
That isn’t
usable for web or print
![Page 9: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
A web page or paper page is only about 8”
wide
Change the Width to 8”
As long as the links are connected, it will keep it’s aspect ratio
72 is the perfect resolution for your web page or printed material unless you are producing a professional brochure
![Page 10: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
But look at percentage
of the picture you are viewing
You are still seeing the
low %
Do not panic when your image scales down! You see now the new number of pixels
![Page 11: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Go to View and choose ZoomThen choose Fit Image in Window
![Page 12: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
It will depend
how large your
window is but you see that you still have a good sized photo after
resizing!
![Page 13: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
In order to use your photos
properly on the web or in printed documents, you really need to do
this resizing.
If you don’t do this you will be using
up far more memory than
necessary.
When you look at the details of each file you see how much memory you use up with each picture.
![Page 14: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
You can add extra space
to your photo for a special text
effect.

Unlink the chain to change just one
dimension
Change pixels to inches so you have a good idea what size
the photo is
![Page 16: Gimp Resize](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022052222/55514740b4c905bd1c8b50b8/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
