December word of the month: Kindness
Principal’s Corner As we move into the winter months we continue
our intentional efforts to support students’ academic
success. Picking up students early from school does have
an impact on their learning time. Please avoid early pick-
ups as much as possible. Five minutes of lost instruction
does impact student learning. If you must pick up your
child early please plan and communicate this through our
office as early as possible and before 2:30pm. Thank you
for partnering with us to maximize learning time for
students.
Gildo Rey continues to work towards providing
the safest learning environment possible. We can’t do this
without your help and understanding. We want all visitors
and parents to remain outside the courtyard gates until
after 3:10pm and to pick up your student in the designated
pick up areas. These areas include car pickup, parent
pickup and kindergarten pick up. Parents should not be
picking up students at the classroom doors. If you need to
pick up your child early please report to the office
first. Gildo Rey strives to maintain a welcoming
environment while ensuring student safety. Your
partnership is appreciated.
Attention drivers, to assist our end of the day
transition please refrain from leaving your vehicle
unattended unless your vehicle is in a designated parking
space. The drive entry to our campus is a “no parking fire
lane”. Although parking in the fire lane may feel like a
quick and convenient option, it is not an acceptable drop
off or parking location. We all set examples for
children. We appreciate you support in this area. Also,
please be mindful of your neighbors. Parents picking up
students should avoid parking or waiting in their cars in
our neighboring housing communities
and apartments. Your neighbors appreciate your
understanding.

Communication is important! Much communication
is sent through email from Auburn School District
and Gildo Rey. Please make sure that the office has
an email for your family so you will receive all
communication sent out.
Changes of Student Pick Up Plans: We understand that sometimes students need to be
notified of a change in their end of day plans. For
example, a bus rider needs to go to car pick up to meet
their parents. When these changes are necessary, please
notify the school by calling the main office (253-931-
4952) before 2:30 pm. Our office staff will
communicate the changes to
your child’s teacher and
provide your child with a note
Pick-ups from After-School Activities:
Please park your car in a
designated parking spot, get your
student released to you by the teacher
and walk with your student to the
car. Students walking alone between and
behind cars are difficult to see and the
immediate presence of an adult acts is an added
protection on our very busy parking lot. Please,
NO car loading along the sidewalk or in 'No
Parking/Fire Lane' zones in the entrance area.
Also, please remember to slow down to
10 mph or less on school grounds. We want

Call me crazy, but Fall and Winter are my favorite times of the year. I love the changing colors of the leaves, the
snow, brisk mornings, fires in the fireplace, and all the opportunities that I have to gather with friends and family
and remember why I am thankful for each one. That being said, as I reflect upon my new role here, I want you to
know that I am grateful for all of you. There isn’t a day that goes by where I haven’t been reminded of how
thankful I am to be part of such an amazing community. Thank you for all that you do to support our students,
staff, parents and community members, and thank you for making me feel so welcome here. Theodore Roosevelt
once stated that: “People don’t care how much you know, unless they know how much you care.” I hope that you
will come to know how much I care for all of you. Please know that as a community of educators, we genuinely
care about every one of our students and their families. In fact, that is the reason that we call when your students
are tardy or absent, when they are sick, or just having a hard time. It is also the reason that we call to encourage
you when they are doing well...though moving forward...maybe we can do that a little more often. I can assure you
that our teachers care as well, that they are extremely passionate about what they do, and believe that “Every”
student can achieve high levels of success when given the opportunity to learn in an environment where they are
cared for. And that is why I am thankful for all of you, because together we form a caring community where our
children are encouraged to dream big dreams. Let’s continue to work together, as a caring community, to help
them reach those dreams.
P. S. While I would be foolish to believe that I could convince all of you to love Fall and Winter like I do, I sincerely
hope that these seasons don’t pass you by without being able to take a moment to reflect on the things that you
are grateful for, like family, friends, as well as the amazing community that you and your children are a part of
here at Gildo Rey.

Llámame loco, pero el otoño y el invierno son mis momentos favoritos del año. Me encantan los colores que
cambian de las hojas, la nieve, las mañanas frescas, los incendios en la chimenea y todas las oportunidades que
tengo para reunirme con amigos y familiares y recordar por qué estoy agradecido por cada una. Dicho esto, al
reflexionar sobre mi nuevo posto aquí, quiero que sepan que estoy agradecido por todos ustedes. No hay un día en
que no me recuerden lo agradecido que estoy de ser parte de una comunidad tan increíble. Gracias por todo lo que
hace para apoyar a nuestros estudiantes, personal, padres y miembros de la comunidad, y gracias por hacerme
sentir tan bienvenido aquí. Theodore Roosevelt dijo una vez que: "A la gente no le importa cuánto sabes, a menos
que sepan cuánto te importa". Espero que llegues a saber cuánto me preocupo por todos. Tenga en cuenta que,
como comunidad de educadores, realmente nos preocupamos por cada uno de nuestros estudiantes y sus
familias. De hecho, esa es la razón por que llamamos cuando sus estudiantes llegan tarde o están ausentes,
cuando están enfermos o simplemente tienen dificultades. También es la razón por la que llamamos para alentarlo
cuando están bien ... aunque avancemos ... quizás podamos hacerlo un poco más. Les puedo asegurar que a
nuestros maestros también les importa, que son extremadamente apasionados por lo que hacen, y creen que
"Todos" los estudiantes pueden lograr altos niveles de éxito cuando se les da la oportunidad de aprender en un
entorno donde se les cuida. Y es por eso que estoy agradecido por todos ustedes, porque juntos formamos una
comunidad solidaria donde se anima a nuestros niños a soñar grandes sueños. Continuemos trabajando juntos,
como una comunidad solidaria, para ayudarlos a alcanzar esos sueños.
P.S. Conosco bien que no podría convencerlos a todos ustedes de amar Otoño y Invierno como lo hago,
sinceramente espero que estas tiempos no pasen sin poder tomarse un momento para reflexionar sobre las cosas
que ustedes hacen. estamos agradecidos por, como la familia, los amigos, así como la increíble comunidad de la
que usted y sus hijos son parte de aquí en Gildo Rey.

VOLUNTEERING IN OUR SCHOOLS
Thank you for your interest in being a volunteer!
In order to volunteer in our schools, in athletics or in any other area in the Auburn School District a background check
must be completed. You can do that by visiting http://www.auburn.wednet.edu/volunteer or by following the below steps:
1. Click on the Auburn School District homepage
2. Click on the Community tab
3. Click on Volunteering in our Schools
4. Click on the application link (https://auburnvolunteers.hrmplus.net/)
5. Read the GET STARTED information on the volunteer application system page
6. Click Register and follow the online prompts
7. Once your application is checked against the Washington State Patrol background check information you will
receive an email notifying you of your application status. Please fill out the form completely and upload all
required documentation.
8. For assistance please click on the “How to Create an Application” brochure in the Quick Links corner of the
Volunteer application system page.
9. Your approved application is good for the school year in which the approval was received. You will need to

Message from the Healthroom:
Students with a temperature over 100 degrees or that is vomiting should NOT be sent to school. Do not allow your child
to return to school until he/she has been free of
fever/vomiting for 24 hours.
The Washington State Immunization Law (RCW 28A.210.090) requires that all students be properly immunized in order
to attend or continue attending school. Students who are not compliant with immunizations will be given a 30 day
notice. If the requirements are not met within the 30 days, then your student will be excluded from school until
completed.
There is a free Multi Care immunization clinic at the South Hill Mall in Puyallup. Hours for children are Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 – 5:00 and every 2nd Saturday from 11:30 am – 5 pm. Please bring your childs
vaccine records.
The single best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu shot, especially in early fall. Flu vaccines can be given to most
people over 6 months old. Hand washing and covering your mouth when you cough/sneeze can help prevent the spread
of the flu. Also regularly wiping down desks, computer keyboards, and door knobs with disinfectant cleansers. Also, be
sure to stay home if you are having flu symptoms: chills/fever, cough, sore throat, and body aches. In younger children,
flu can cause GI symptoms as well: nausea, vomiting, and stomach aches.
Please consider getting the flu vaccine--- which will help prevent the spread of the flu and protect students who have
chronic illnesses and may be at higher risk for serious health concerns… if they get the
flu. You can ask for the preservative free flu (no thimerosal) vaccine at your
pharmacy. Protect yourself, your family, and your community by getting your flu
vaccine.

Breakfast Line
Breakfast is a busy time. We understand that
students are excited about getting breakfast and
starting their day! We would like to mention a
couple of things that would help make the breakfast
line flow easier. Please make sure all students have
their numbers ready if they do not have it
memorized. Also, we are asking that only students
go into the serving area. This will allow students to
learn how to go through the serving area
independently. Fewer people going through can help
the flow of the line as well as the noise level. By
keeping the serving area open and quiet, kitchen staff
can hear and speak to students that might need help
with their
numbers and food
choices. If you have
Lost and Found
Is your student missing any coats or sweaters. Please check our lost and found area in the gym lobby before and after school. We have so much coats and sweaters in the lost and found area and is overfilling!
We will be sending home information about the federal Title I, Part A program this month. In addition, the Auburn School District and Gildo Rey are asking again for parents' input about what kind of learning opportunities should be prioritized within the Title program in our school. A link to the electronic survey (see below) will be sent to your email address on file with the office. The survey will be available in 6 languages that are commonly spoken in our students' homes.
