Hey, over here! My name is Gilbert the Goby Fish. Once upon

a time ago my family and I used to live in Lake Erie and were

known for being the meanest Goby’s in all the Great Lakes. I

never did like being under that title, so I decided to make a

change. Ready for a good story? This is the story on how I

changed the life of all organisms under the lakes.

This feels like this is actually where we are sup-

posed to be, home. It feels good to be home.

And that’s the story on how I changed lives in the

lakes forever. It doesn't matter how big or how

small you are, if you put your mind to something

you can accomplish what you want and make a

change.

Page 3: Gilbert The Goby Fish

“I had no idea that bullying other organisms could have such a

big affect on our ecosystem” said Gail. Maybe you were right all

this time Gilbert. I’m so sorry that we haven’t been listening to

you Honey. Can you ever forgive us?

No time for that now we need to go right now….follow me!

Swimming fin in fin the Goby family raced to the port to get on

the boat to get to the Black Sea. When they finally got there Gil-

bert showed his family the picture of Grandpa Gabe. “How did

this get here?” asked Gail. “I told you this is our home, where we

belong, where we belonged the whole time.”

“Gilbert get up and go scare that Trout Fish Tribe there

sleeping on my coral reef” said Gail. Mom there is

plenty of coral fish to go around. You get up right now

and go move them from there or you're watered.

Page 4: Gilbert The Goby Fish

I can't believe she's making me do this, this is so wrong. I have

to do it though, Mom says a true Goby Fish does this.. I know

this isn’t right. Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one in this

family that knows right from wrong. I don’t want to live like

this anymore. I don’t want to be known as something that I’m

not. Instead of running them off like we always do, maybe I

can kindly ask them to move.

If we don't do anything about this then the Trout Fish will

eventually become extinct. We are eating all of their babies

which is decreasing the amount of Trout Fish. Not only will the

Trout Fish suffer, we will all suffer because they play a big role

in our ecosystem. If the Trout Fish go extinct than who will

provide food for the birds, bears, and eagles to eat. If nothing

is changed then they will all begin to die off. Just like humans

need air to breath and live, Goby fish need to be in their na-

tive home to restore the ecosystem.

Page 5: Gilbert The Goby Fish

This is all too much, then how do invasive species spread? “If

we really don't belong here, how did we get here?” asked Gail.

Invasive species spread wood products and ships. On my way

to find our native home, I heard these two men saying that

humans are going to regulate water transporting to help re-

solve this problem. If there doing their niche then shouldn't

we do ours?

Hey Trout Fish! Over here!…...wait, no, where are you all go-

ing, I was just going to say…” That you want our home? we

have heard it all before, you Gobies are all the same” said

Tristan the Trout Fish.

Page 6: Gilbert The Goby Fish

“Gilbert, how did it go? Did those greedy Trout Fish move?”

asked Gail. Yes they moved, thanks to you they think i'm a

mean person. Congrats Gilbert, you're acting more like a

Goby everyday! That's it I can't take this anymore I feel low-

er than the sand at the bottom of Lake for what you made

me do, this isn't how it should be. Just give it time you'll get

used to treating organisms this way, now run along and

pack your things. we leave tomorrow morning. Once again

with all of this moving, I can't take this anymore!

I am not being a drama fish, if we continue to invade other or-

ganisms it leads to A series of outcomes. We are preying on

native species which is killing them off. If we continue to do

that, then they could go extinct. Once they go extinct there's

no going back. Not only are we preying on them, we are com-

peting with them for food and their homes. If we do some-

thing about it then the food chain will continue to be the way

it’s supposed to be, us Gobies should be eating things like

planktonic algae. We are bullying other fishes, such as the

Walleye and smallmouth bass for their food. Since we are

eating the Trout fish’s eggs, we are decreasing the amount of

Trout Fish. If we stop doing this and return to our home eve-

ryone will have their homes again and everyone will have

food to eat. Keeping the food chain circling in the correct way

with everything functioning correctly is important to all life

under the Sea and for humans too.

Page 7: Gilbert The Goby Fish

Gilbert, don't be a drama fish, you know that really up-

sets me!

That night Gilbert set out for the shallowest ends of

the Lake to discover the true him.

Page 8: Gilbert The Goby Fish

As Gilbert was swimming away from his “home” he sudden-

ly hears a loud roar above him. It’s a boat! Within seconds

Gilbert was sucked into a net. “Help, Help, I need help,

someone save me.”

“You disappear for a while and come back with these insane

stories, and expect us to believe you. How many times have I

told you that everything is ours and others must leave when

told” said Gail. “Mom don’t you understand its wrong to bully

other fish and make them move from their native home. Not

only are we hurting fish that we are telling to move, we are

harming the entire ecosystem.

Page 9: Gilbert The Goby Fish

Mom, Dad come quick! I just discovered our native home.

There were pictures of Grandpa Gabe and Grandma Ga-

briella, and our home is big and nice. We have to pack our

things and go, go, go!

As Gilbert was being pulled up the net, he noticed that two hu-

mans were on the boat talking about his home. “Hey Ryder, you

know what they should do?” said Alec. No what should they do?

asked Ryder. They need to place a law that limits the amount of

water transporting that we do. Water transporting will help keep

fish in balance, I heard that the Goby Fish were taking homes

from other fishes which is affecting the entire ecosystem! ex-

claimed Ryder. Goby fish should be in the Black Sea, after all that

is their native home.

Page 10: Gilbert The Goby Fish

Gilberts eyes lit up brighter than the sun. I knew

it, we are not supposed to be living there. We

have a spot of our own. A place that we can call

our own.

As soon as the boat transported back to his “homeland “, Gilbert

swam lightning sped to his house and busted through the sea-

weed doors and went to find his family.

Page 11: Gilbert The Goby Fish

“Oh no, things are continuing to get worse. I have

to move faster. The boat should be departing

soon.” That night Gilbert saw a hole in the net where he would

be able to escape the net. Gilbert was determined to find

his native home.

Page 12: Gilbert The Goby Fish

So it began the adventure to find the Goby families natural

home. Gilbert traveled nonstop in hope of coming upon his

family’s native home, when suddenly.. Gilbert came upon an ar-

ea that seemed to be abandoned. What appeared to be a calm

rush of water that passed along Gilbert, he felt as if he had

been to this mysterious place one hundred times by now.

At that thought, he knew he had to turn around and turn

his family’s thoughts around. As he was returning back to

where the boat had left him. He looked around and saw

other fish packing their belongings. Looking as if they

were beginning to move.

Page 13: Gilbert The Goby Fish

“I knew that we had a place our own, moving oth-

er fish has got to stop!” shouted Gilbert. I have to

get back to my family and tell them what I learned!

Something about this place touched his memory in a way.

He slowly inched toward the abandoned place. As he got

closer he saw something that he almost couldn’t believe!

In a picture frame was a picture of Grandpa Gabe! Next to

Grandpa Gabe was a picture of Grandma Gabriella and so

forth.
