As more of us live longer and healthier lives, our country and our communities have an exciting opportunity to reimagine aging in America. This means finding new ways of enabling more of us to contribute longer, as well as using innovation to meet the needs of the most frail and isolated among us. It also means championing issues that matter to older people and helping others understand that aging is a universal process with a wide range of relevant issues.

To accomplish this, we need to make our big tent even bigger. As this year’s GIA Annual Conference heads to Austin, Texas, we will highlight exciting programs and ideas relevant not only to traditional aging funders, but also to those who work on health and mental health; children, families, and intergenerational opportunities; arts, music, and culture; mobility and transportation; technology; employment and economic security; rural issues; and much more.

This bold perspective, combined with an interactive approach to our work, helps us bring an aging lens to more projects, identifying new partners and creating a broader philanthropic constituency. We hope you will join us in Austin!

GIA welcomes all organizations interested in aging and philanthropy — foundations, grantmaking organizations, and corporate giving programs — to attend the GIA Annual Conference. Over the years, it’s become the premier source of information and inspiration for any organization that wants to support aging-related programs. The conference is designed to be a stimulating and productive experience for people in all types of roles in your organization, including staff, trustees, directors, consultants, and donors. In short, it’s for anyone who cares about older adults and understands how aging issues affect the whole spectrum of philanthropic priorities, from health and education to community and intergenerational issues.

GIA’s Annual Conference features more than 200 top local and national funders in one of America’s great cities. For 2020, we’re excited to bring the meeting to Austin — a diverse city home to dynamic people, places, and points of view.

Austin is also home to numerous creative and innovative programs that benefit older adults, such as the St. David’s

Foundation, which is dedicated to creating healthier lives for all Central Texans. In a unique partnership with St. David’s Healthcare, the Foundation invests to solve the most pressing health challenges across the entire community, especially the underserved and uninsured.

St. David’s invests over $75 million each year back into Bastrop, Caldwell, Hays, Travis, and Williamson counties, making it one of the largest health foundations in the country. These investments have helped improve the health prospects of Central Texans, with the end goal of creating the healthiest community in the world.

Austin is a dynamic venue for GIA’s 2020 Annual Conference, which promises to be an invigorating forum to learn from and network with aging philanthropy colleagues who think and act beyond boundaries. We hope that you will join us, both in the conference rooms, and at local sites and attractions, such as Zilker Park, the State Capitol and Visitors Center, and many more.

Grantmakers In Aging — a national membership organization of philanthropies — acts as a relevant and responsive network, resource, and champion, amplifying the voices of older people and issues of aging. Believing a society which is better for older adults is better for people of all ages, GIA seeks a just and inclusive world where older people are fully valued, recognized, and engaged in ways that matter. GIA’s membership includes leading staff and trustees of private, family, community, public, operating, and corporate foundations that are involved directly or indirectly with philanthropy and aging. It also includes corporate giving programs, private and public charities, social venture capital groups, individual philanthropists, and bank trust departments or trust companies that administer charitable trusts or foundations making grants for charitable purposes.
