Geography as formal science: 1950sThe world as something that can be

- measured- classified- organized

in a systematic manner, according to the scientific method

The world can be studied at all different scales (sizes):- From “World regional geography”

- Down to the level of a neighborhood or a stream

Three main emphasis areas:- Physical

- Techniques- Human (“Sustainable development”)

“Real geography”

What binds us all together as geographers?- How all these different parts fit together

- Love of maps, what can be mapped- Tend to have fun
