Ghana joined the Lets do it! Movement in2011 through Junior Chamber International(JCI) Ghana and had the opportunity to hostthe West Africa Regional Gathering of Letsdo it! World Cleanup 2012 in Accra on
September 10, 2011.

2012 Conference in Estonia as the only
representatives from Africa.

Returning from Estonia, the team met and
commenced preparation on the Lets Clean
Ghana 2012 Campaign by meeting as a
group to work on our proposal and how tofind partners. We partnered with the Ministry
of Local Government and Rural
Development and the Accra MetropolitanAssembly who supports our cleanups with
logistics such as rakes, shovels, etc .

The focus of the Lets Clean Ghana 2012 is to
clear waste from drains to allow smooth flow
of liquid waste to prevent the outbreak of
cholera and malaria.

Digital Waste Map
The team has come up with a digital waste
map on drains, we worked together with the
Accra Metropolitan Assembly. We received
support from some JCI Ghana Members to
develop the digital waste map of drains in the
City of Accra, which is yet to be launched.

Two major cleanups have been undertaken in
the country by JCI Ghana members and
members of the various communities. The
first cleanup was held in Accra, the Capital City
of Ghana.

Lack of commitment on the part of most
team members to the project as a result of
their work demands, they do not have enough
time to share.
Inadequate funds to facilitate the project

Way Forward
The way forward is to launch our digital waste
map on drains to educate the public on the
effect of choked drains with waste.
Also, we are going to intensify our fund raising
drive by seeking for more sponsorship and
partner other organizations so that we can
complete our project of clearing waste fromdrains in the entire country by the end of
2013.

Opportunities
the President of Ghana has directed all
Metropolitan , Municipal and Districts in
collaboration with Zoom Alliance to clear
waste in their various communities.
Therefore, a National Sanitation Taskforce has
been inaugurated by the President in
pursuance to achieve a clean Ghana.

Parliament of Ghana has approved a budgetfor the Sanitary Sewer and Storm water
Drainage Alleviation Project by the AMA. The
facility is for the improvement of drainage andsewer systems in the Accra metropolis.
From the above mentioned, Lets Clean Ghana
has the opportunity to partner with theNational Sanitation Task Force and AMA to
achieve its objective of free waste drains.

Expectations
We expect that all African countries will
concentrate on the resources available in their
country to marshal efforts in ensuring a clean
environment.
Member countries should be proactive in
soliciting for more partnerships from
corporate institutions and other NGOs in theirvarious countries for the clean-up projects.
