The New Year ushers in new beginnings replete with fresh thoughts and ideas. It brings an impetus which rekindles our purpose and cooperative commitment to excellence. Continuing the theme of the year 'Celebrating Human Rights' the theme for the month of January was 'Equality of Justice' which reminded us of the untiring efforts of the great world leaders who fought against the oppressive conditions in the world. On 30 January - Martyrs Day we paid homage to the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi as also to Martin Luther King Jr. or Nelson Mandela. The students celebrated 'Desh Prem Diwas' to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The strains of the National Anthem on Republic Day evoked patriotic fervor as the students renewed their pledge to honour our freedom and uphold human rights. Waves of patriotism mingled with community outreach, as the school joined hand with the community at the Winter Carnival. 12 JANUARYPICNIC AT TIKUJI NI WADI

A picnic full of fun, frolic and knowledge was organised for the students of Grades 1 and 2. They relished one whole day with friends in a different atmosphere at 'Tikuji Ni Wadi' Recreation Park. The students thoroughly enjoyed the games like the Family Train, Worm Coaster, Jungle Gym and Dashing cars. After savouring the delicious lunch, the students were also apprised of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes. Apart from the immense fun they had, the students learnt many social values and were also enriched by the time they spent outside.

As a part of Goldcrest High's community service, the students of Grades 3 and 4 parcipated in a Cleanliness Drive organised by the NMMC officials. Taking a step further in fulfilling the objecve of the 'Clean India' campaign, the students along with their teachers and parents went around the school neighbourhood cleaning the surroundings and also talking to the people about the importance of health and hygiene. To reinforce the idea of 'Cleanliness is next to Godliness', all the students from Grades 1 to 10 were shown a short film on Cleanliness the following day. On the whole, it was an inspiring experience for all the students. It also made the students aware about the dignity of labour.

MARTYRS’ DAY 30 JANUARY

“Rights that do not flow from duty well performed are not worth having. Begin with duties of a man and rights will follow as spring

follows winter.” -M.K. Gandhi

Students of Grade 9B through a well-planned and coordinated presentation paid homage to the Father of the Nation and the other

Indians who have sacrificed their lives in defending India from the oppressive rule. The students also gave information about the

'World Leprosy Day', which also falls on the same day. The meticulous assembly comprised of a prayer song 'Raghupati Raghav' sung

by the students, a musical act which depicted Gandhiji's assassination scene and concluded with 2 minutes silence observed by all the

students. The special guests Ms Salunkhe and Mr Bhise from the Education Department overwhelmed by the assembly greatly

appreciated the students and the school. It ended on a motivational note from the Principal Ms. Jaspal Gill who encouraged the

students to follow Gandhiji's values and be loving, charitable and service-minded with a strong social conscience.
