Getting Started with Kaltura Capture Kaltura Capture is a video capture product. For instructions on downloading the software and getting started, please see our Downloading Kaltura Capture tutorial. Once you have downloaded Kaltura Capture, you can begin adding and recording media.

Choose Recording Sources

1. After opening the Kaltura Capture Desktop Recorder, you will be presented with the following options:

• Screen • Webcam • Microphone

You can adjust the combinations of these three things by clicking on each of the icons and choose sources (monitors, webcams, and microphones) from the drop down menus.


You can also turn a source off by clicking directly on the monitor, webcam, and microphone icons.

After selecting your sources, you can begin to record and enjoy additional features by clicking on the large red button.

Drawing on your Screen Recording

1. While recording your desktop, you will be given the option to draw on the screen. 2. If you do not see the Kaltura Capture toolbar on your screen, click the Kaltura icon

displayed on your taskbar.


3. Click on the pencil icon to annotate over your screen recording.

4. Click on the pencil icon again to draw, or use the Arrow or Text tools.

Saving and Uploading your Recording

1. When you are finished recording, click on the square icon to stop recording.


You will be asked if you are sure. Click, “Yes, Stop it.”

2. You will be brought to your Kaltura Capture entry, where you can edit your recording’s

title and choose to save it locally by hitting “Save,” or to save it locally and upload it to MediaSpace by clicking “Save & Upload.”

3. Click “Save & Upload.” You will be given updated on your desktop that show it is updating and completed. Click on the provided link to navigate to MediaSpace, where you can review and edit the recording.

4. Click on the link and then, in MediaSpace, click “Access your Media.”


5. You’ll see your video at the top of your gallery.

Editing Your Recording

1. After locating your recording in MediaSpace, click on the edit icon across from your video.


2. Click “Launch Editor.”

3. You will be directed to the Video Editor in Kaltura.


Video Editor Features

1. Timeline – drag from either end to trim the beginning or end of your video. 2. Handlebar – drag the handlebar to a desired time in the video and use the split icon

(scissors) to divide your video into sections. You can also use the set-in and set-out brackets to trim your video to a desired length.

3. Delete and fade – drag the handlebar to a desired time in the video and use the delete icon to delete a selected portion of video. You can also use the fade icon to the right of the garbage can to fade in and fade out of the beginning and end of your selected portion.

4. Reset – click the clock icon to reset your video to its original state or use the undo and redo icons.

5. Audio – you can click on the audio icon to select an audio track in your video. 6. Zoom – the zoom function will expand and shrink your timeline if you need finer

control over edits.

Once you’re satisfied with the edits you’ve made, you can click “Save” to overwrite the current video, or click “Save a copy” to save your edits as a new video and preserve the original.

If you choose to save over your original video, you will get a message asking if you are sure you want to permanently change you media entry. The video may take a while to process.


If you click “Save,” you will see the message “Saving is in progress… Please be patient.”

Once your media saves, you will see the message, “Media was successfully saved.” Click “OK.”
