1 Step 1: Purchase a Vault

1.1 Purchasing a Server Backup Vault

1.2 Purchasing a Disk Backup Vault

1.3 Purchasing a File System Backup Vault

1.4 Purchasing a Hybrid Backup Vault

1.1 Purchasing a Server Backup VaultThis section describes how to purchase a server backup vault.

Procedure

Step 1 Log in to CBR Console.

1. Log in to the management console.

2. Click in the upper left corner and select the desired region and project.

3. Click and choose Storage > Cloud Backup and Recovery >Cloud Server Backup.

Step 2 In the upper right corner of the page, click Buy Server Backup Vault.

Step 3 Select a billing mode.● Yearly/monthly is a prepaid billing mode. You will be charged based on the

subscription duration you specify. This billing mode is ideal when the resourceuse duration is predictable. This mode provides a more favorable price thanthe pay-per-use mode.

● Pay-per-use is a postpaid billing mode. You will be charged based on actualuse and can purchase or delete resources at any time. Fees are deducted fromthe account balance.

Step 4 Select whether to enable the database backup function.● If the database backup function is enabled, the vault can be used to store

database backups. Backing up memory data through database backupensures application system consistency, which is suitable for ECSs containing

MySQL or SAP HANA databases. If a database backup task fails, the systemautomatically performs server backup for the server. The server backups arealso stored in the database backup vault.

● If the database backup function is disabled, only common server backup isperformed on associated servers, which is usually used for ECSs that do notcontain databases.

Step 5 (Optional) In the server list, select the servers or disks you want to back up. Afterthe servers or disks are selected, they are added to the list of selected servers, asshown in Figure 1-1. You can associate selected disks on the server to the vault.

NO TICE

To ensure post-restoration data consistency, you are advised to back up the entireserver. If you want to back up only some disks to reduce costs, ensure that data on thesedisks is independent from the rest. Otherwise, data inconsistency may occur. For example, data of the Oracle application is scattered across different disks. Ifonly some of the disks are backed up, restoration restores only the data of thedisks that have been backed up, with the rest of the data unchanged. As a result, data inconsistency occurs and the application cannot be started.

Figure 1-1 Selecting servers

● Only Running or Stopped servers can be selected.● You can associate desired servers with the vault you created later if you skip this step.

Step 6 Specify the vault capacity. The minimum value of a vault capacity is the totalcapacity of the associated servers and the maximum value is 10,485,760 GB. Youneed to properly plan the vault capacity, which cannot be less than that of theserver to be backed up. Also, note that after automatic association is enabled anda backup policy is bound, the required capacity is larger. You can expand the vaultonce the capacity becomes insufficient.

Step 7 Select whether to configure automatic backup.● If you select Configure, you must then select an existing or create a backup

policy. After the vault is created, the system associates the vault with this

backup policy, and all servers associated with this vault will be automaticallybacked up based on this policy.

● If you select Skip, servers associated with this vault are not automaticallybacked up.

Step 8 If the Enterprise Project Management (EPS) service is subscribed, you can add thevault to an existing enterprise project.

EPS provides a unified method to manage cloud resources by project, allowing youto manage resources, users, and user groups in your projects. The default project isdefault.

Step 9 (Optional) Add tags to the vault.

A tag is represented in the form of a key-value pair. Tags are used to identify, classify, and search for vaults. Tags here are used to filter and manage vaults only.A vault can have a maximum of 10 tags.

Table 1-1 describes parameters of a tag.

Key Each tag has a unique key. The key of a tag isuser-definable or is selected from those ofexisting tags in Tag Management Service (TMS).The naming rules for a tag key are as follows:● It contains 1 to 36 Unicode characters.● It cannot be left blank, cannot start or end

with spaces, or contain non-printable ASCII(0-31) characters or the following specialcharacters: =*<>\,|/

Follow-Up ProcedureAfter a hybrid cloud backup vault is created, you can perform operations such asrestoration and service deployment on the cloud by synchronizing the backupdata. However, you cannot perform backup on the console.

For details, see Hybrid Cloud Backup.

2 Step 2: Associate a Resource with theVault

If you have associated servers, file systems, or disks when purchasing a vault, skipthis section.

After a server backup vault, a file system backup vault, or a disk backup vault iscreated, you can associate servers or disks with the vault for backup.

After a hybrid cloud backup vault is created, servers and disks cannot beassociated with the vault, but you can synchronize backups for on-premisesservers and storage devices to the cloud. For details, see Hybrid Cloud Backup.

Prerequisites● The servers to be associated must be in the Running or Stopped state.● The disks to be associated must be in the Available or In-use state.● The file systems to be associated must be in the Available or In-use state.● At least one disk is attached to the server.● The total capacity of the resources to be associated cannot be greater than

the capacity of the vault.

Procedure

Step 1 Log in to CBR Console.

1. Log in to the management console.

2. Click in the upper left corner and select the desired region and project.

3. Click and choose Storage > Cloud Backup and Recovery.

Step 2 On the backup page, locate the target vault and click Associate Server, AssociateFile System, or Associate Disk in the Operation column. See Figure 2-1.

Step 3 Click OK. Then in the Associated Servers column in the vault list, you can viewthe number of resources that have been successfully associated.

Automatic Association

Backup vaults support automatic association with resources that are not backedup. After successful association, resources will be backed up according to thebackup policy bound to the vault.

● If multiple vaults are enabled with automatic association, the system scansthe backup policies and associates resources with the vault whose nextscheduled backup time is the earliest.

● When the association capacity of the vault selected by the system is full, resources will be associated with the vault whose next scheduled backup timeis the second earliest.

● If there is more than one vault whose next scheduled backup time is theearliest, the system randomly associates the resources with one of thesevaults.

● If a vault is enabled with automatic association but not bound to any backuppolicy, no resource will be automatically associated with it. You can manuallyassociate resources that have not been backed up with the vault.

● After the automatic association function is disabled for a vault, the vault stopsautomatically scanning for resources that have not been backed up. Theassociated resources are not affected.

Step 1 Log in to CBR Console.

1. Log in to the management console.

2. Click in the upper left corner and select the desired region and project.

3. Click and choose Storage > Cloud Backup and Recovery.

Step 2 Select Cloud Server Backup or Cloud Disk Backup from the navigation tree onthe left and find the target vault.

3.3 Creating a File System Backup

3.1 Creating a Cloud Server BackupThis section describes how to quickly create a cloud server backup.

The backup process for BMSs is the same as that for ECSs.

Currently, backups cannot be migrated between vaults. Therefore, properly planthe storage usage of vaults before backup.

Prerequisites

Only servers in the Running or Stopped state can be backed up.

Procedure

Step 1 Log in to CBR Console.

1. Log in to the management console.

2. Click in the upper left corner and select the desired region and project.

3. Click and choose Storage > Cloud Backup and Recovery >Cloud Server Backup.

Step 2 On the Cloud Server Backup page, click the Vaults tab and find the vault withwhich the server is associated.

Step 3 Click Perform Backup in the Operation column. In the server list, select theservers you want to back up. After servers are selected, they are added to the listof selected servers. See Figure 3-1.
