Getting Started Guide
Astaro RED
Congratulations on your purchase of the Astaro RED security appliance, to protect your data
and computers of your branch office. This Getting Started Guide describes in short steps the
assembly of the appliance and how to connect to your central office.
Before you begin, please make sure that you have a working Internet connection.

After checking the complete-
ness of the scope of supply
identify the unique RED-ID
printed at the bottom of your
unit and note it within the
area below:
Administrator’s name and phone-number:
Astaro RED Appliance
Call your company’s system administrator, who needs to activate your device on your
central Astaro Security Gateway. Tell him the RED-ID noted above. Wait until he has
confirmed a successfull activation before proceeding with the next step.

5. Connect the device to the power supply
6. Establish a Tunnel to your central ASG
3. Connect a LAN port to your PC or the internal network (LAN)
4. Connect the WAN port to the external network
Use an Ethernet cable to
connect your PCs directly or via
a patch panel, hub or switch to
any of the LAN ports (1 - 4).

e.g. DSL Router or Cable Modem
The appliance will now auto-
matically retrieve it’s configuration
file from the internet and establish
a tunnel to your central office.
Use the orange Ethernet cable
(from the scope of supply) to
connect the WAN port to your
router or cable modem that
connects to the Internet.
If three LEDs are rotatory blinking the device is installing
a new firmware version - DO NOT POWER IT OFF!
It will reboot automatically.

After the system has booted it will connect to the Internet.
The status LEDs should then be turned ON as follows:
Connect the appliance to the power
supply from the scope of supply. Plug the
power supply into the electrical outlet.

The Tunnel status LED should now turn ON as follows: Tunnel up
If you don’t see all four LEDs turned on or if any LED is blinking please refer to the Operating
Instructions to identify possible error states and contact your administrator.
