UCAN is a NACADA Allied MemberThe University Counselors Advisors Network (UCAN) as an official allied member of the National Academic Advising Association 

Benefits as an allied member include:1.Access and use of NACADA mailing lists on a reciprocal basis in accordance with current NACADA mailing list policy.

2. Publication of activities in the regional communications at the discretion of the editor.

3. Identification of organization as “An Allied Member of the National Academic Advising Association”.

4. Inclusion of representatives on Regional steering and planning committees when possible.

5. Expanded political base from which to advance the goals of the organization.

NACADA Emerging Leaders Program• To assist in increasing diversity within NACADA leadership • 10 Emerging Leaders selected • 10 Mentors are work with chosen emerging leaders• Emerging Leader (EL) and Mentor work closely to aid the EL

in working towards their area of interest within NACADA• 2 year program commitment •  $1500 given during EL's first year to assist in travel

expenses to state, regional, and national conferences

NACADA EL Program: Requirements

• NACADA member for 2 years• Demonstrate active involvement in the association• Home institution support for attending 2 ir 3 annual

conferences during the 2 year commitment• Participate in personal & program evaluation & assessment• Articulate goals for increasing involvement in NACADA

leadership & how the program will support those goals• Articulate how participation will support the program goal of

intentional leadership development for underrepresented groups within NACADA

UCAN Mentoring Program

• Opportunity for less experienced UCAN members to develop presentation skills by working with members who have presented at conferences in the past 

• Goal is to pair mentor & mentee in area of similar interest• Contact the UCAN president to be a mentor or a mentee

NACADA Book Review

• Must be a current NACADA member• Limited to 1 book review per membership year• Reviewer is given 1 free book in a topic related to advising

in exchange for a written review of that book• The review will be in a future addition of NACADA Journal• Books cover a wide range of topics due to NACADA having

a diverse membership in various university/college roles • To find a list of current books to review and the instructions

NACADA Research 

NACADA supports research in academic advising to advance knowledge about academic advising as both a field of practice and academic inquiry. • Grants of up to $5000 are available for a 1-year proposal• Multiple year grants are also available• Annotated bibliographies are available on the Research and

Grant Writing Resources page of NACDA• NACADA allows for the surveying of its membership
