Important fee information

– The program and fees information applies to students commencing programs between 1 January and 31 December of the selected academic year.

– All fees are quoted in Australian dollars (AU$) and apply to RMIT University’s Australian campuses only.

– RMIT’s application fee is non-refundable, but will be credited to your tuition fee deposit once you accept your offer and commence your program.

For details on additional costs, please visit rmit.edu.au/programs/fees/other

– For full-time students, the Student Services and Amenities Fee as at 2017 is AU$294. Visit rmit.edu.au/programs/fees/

– Fees are held constant for each calendar year and RMIT may increase program fees by an amount that will not exceed 7.5% each year (subject to rounding). For higher education fees, tuition fees are rounded up to the nearest $10.00 per credit point increment, and so the actual fee increase may exceed 7.5%. Similarly, for vocational education and preparatory students, the program annual fees are rounded up to the nearest $250, and so the actual fee increase may exceed 7.5%.

– Fee increases are applied at the beginning of each calendar year, therefore commencing mid-year students will find that the total cost of their program will be slightly higher than if they had commenced in February.

– Fees are invoiced on a study period basis according to the enrolled load for that particular study period, except that English Language is charged at a weekly fee.

Student ProfileJulian Clavijo – Master of Arts (Art in Public Space)

I wanted to create big art. Art in public spaces: the big sculptures, the big monuments, the big, intricate architectural facades, facades that mean something, the big murals.

At RMIT, they teach you how to think and how to work your way through to produce your art. There is a rulebook of how public art is delivered and RMIT gives you the approaches of how things need to be presented.

Student ProfileJin Hu – Master of Information Technology

RMIT has a great reputation of providing industry connections, internship opportunities and exposure to the job market prior to graduation. I learnt a lot of valuable skills throughout my studies including programming, group work, time management and the ability to work under pressure.

I recently completed my postgraduate project where my team and I worked with a financial company in Melbourne to help them build their website. The entire semester was full of dealing with clients, working in a team, solving problems, solving new problems and so on. The experience was invaluable as we could not have learnt the same skills sitting in a lecture theatre.

I never thought there were opportunities to work as a teacher in such unique learning environments. It came as a surprise to me to be able to work as a teacher at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

It’s been an absolute joy to work at the hospital and assist in a small way that creates an environment where the children feel normal in a very abnormal situation.

Student ProfileWasa Sibiya – Master of Environmental Science and Technology, Senior tutor at University of Goroka, Papua New Guinea

RMIT has strong industry connections and courses are very practical. Lecturers are highly educated and dedicated to their profession. They have strong industry backgrounds and are excited to share their experiences, knowledge, ideas with us. I would definitely recommend RMIT to others.

Sustainable Urban Precincts Program

In 2014, RMIT launched a $98 million Sustainable Urban Precincts Program across all Melbourne campuses. The aim of the project is to reduce electricity use over eight years by an estimated 239 million kilowatt hours, leading to a 30,000-tonne reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

As part of the program, $4.8 million in funding will support teaching and research in sustainability, including 10 PhD scholarships.

For more information, visitrmit.edu.au/study-with-us/ environment-and-sustainability

Our environment and planning programs include hands-on experience through field studies and excursions, conducted in association with industry, government and environmental agencies.

Whether it’s assisting communities with environmental management or protecting the biodiversity of marine life in our coastal areas, you’ll be able to get professional experience on real projects across the globe.

Practical projects – Lizard Island Field Project and Vietnam Project

RMIT students have the opportunity to undertake practical field work at the Lizard Island Research Station, 270 kilometres north of Cairns. Students get the opportunity to learn how to conduct real-life surveys in real-life conditions, by collecting data, identifying species, and monitoring environmental changes.

Final year environment students can take a two-week intensive field research project in Vietnam where they investigate urban development and provide sustainability recommendations to local non-profit organisations and government agencies.

Rankings

Student ProfileAwf Abdul Rahman Al-Khan – PhD (Biomedical Sciences)

RMIT is different to other universities, because there is a focus on the practical side of laboratory medicine in addition to the theoretical side. I get training in hospitals; the courses and facilities are of good quality; and the teachers and supervisors are helpful.

Alumni ProfileZheng (Charissa) Gong – Master of Translating and Interpreting, Sales and Marketing Manager at Servcorp, China

English is like a tool. It’s not just a language or something that you can rely on to build your career. I think it’s more like a key to the world. I now work as Sales and Marketing Manager for an Australian company called Servcorp in Shanghai. Living in Australia for three years, I learned how to interact with people from different cultures and how to put forward my ideas.

Student ProfileTravis Lacy – Exchange student from Denmark

I chose RMIT over other universities, because of its good reputation and many opportunities within my line of work and studies. I would highly recommend both RMIT and spending a semester abroad. Experiencing another culture and studying in a new environment is just so much fun. You will gain so much personally, but it is also a good thing for your future career and resume.
