All Year 12 Exams will be held on the ‘A’ Floor. Students will need to be at school 15 minutes prior to their exam start time.

This month we have purchased over thirty new fiction and non-fiction books which are now on display and available for borrowing. We have also already re-ceived many completed Premier’s Reading Challenge forms which are due September 4th. Thank you to those students and remember you still have over three months to complete the Reading Challenge! Please see library staff for the forms. Some students are completing more than one Reading Record and their efforts will be recognised by a special PGHS award certificate. Book Week is from 22nd August-28th August and this year’s theme is : “Books Light up our World”. We are currently adding

The Children’s Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Awards 2015 shortlisted books to our display areas for students to

read and borrow. The winners will be announced on August 21st.

Congratulations to our year 10 student Jacinda Benbolt. Jacinda’s design was voted by the Mawson Lakes SAASTA academy to be their Guernsey design for this year’s Aboriginal Power Cup. Our students participated in the event across three days which concluded with them performing a Cultural Dance on Adelaide Oval before the Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs game on Saturday 6th June.

NAIDOC WEEK

During weeks 9 and 10 this term, students took part in various activities to

celebrate Aboriginal Culture. Students used traditional foods to cook various

meals, one being lemon myrtle crocodile. We also spent a day in the city with a

number of Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students where we attended the

botanic gardens and did the Aboriginal plant use trail, visited the Adelaide

Museum and took a walk along the River Torrens to reflect on what it was like

before the settlers. We finished off the celebration with

an assembly on Wednesday 1st July, where we had the

Tal-Kin-Jeri traditional dance group

perform and share the stories of their

dances with us, as well as a talk from

our ASETO, Andrew

Thomas.

Finger food and drinks will be available to purchase throughout the night starting at

4:30pm followed by a raffle with prizes later during the night.

On the 26th of June our Year 12 formal was held at the Stamford Grand Adelaide Hotel. Around 160 Year 12 students, partners and staff attended. Many of the Year 12s spent a considerable amount of time planning their transport and stunning outfits for the Year 12 formal and the result was a fantastic night involving a two course buffet, music, dancing and photography, as well as the presentation of teach-er and student awards. We would like to congratulate the Year 12s who attended for making the night a spectacular success. The feed-back from the hotel staff indicated that they were impressed with the positive behaviour and maturity of the Year 12s and look forward to hosting the event again in 2016. We would also like to thank the Year 12 formal committee, especially Carley Forrest and Colleen Mayes for their tireless work in organising the student invitations, and Abigail De Vera and Sid Dabiru for providing valuable input for the decorations, cuisine choices, awards and gifts.

Not sure of the direction you would like to take in the future?

As our students progress towards Year 12, there are a lot of important decisions to make relating to future study, training and career options.

To help Year 11s and their families prepare for this important year of schooling, Achieve magazine has now been provided to these students. The magazine, which the SACE Board provides for each student, complements our school’s course counselling sessions.

We would encourage you to ask your son or daughter for a copy of Achieve early in term 3 as it can help spark useful conversations about their progress in the SACE, how to succeed with their Year 12 studies and meet the requirements for university and TAFE courses.

This edition of Achieve also covers:

● The Research Project ● Recognising other forms of learning ● Keeping up good study habits ● Year 12 results ● Assessment in Stage 2 of the SACE

As part of this edition, the SACE Board is interested in hearing from students about their views on the content and format of Achieve.

Students can enter to win an iPad by completing the short survey at: www.sace.sa.edu.au/achieve

Entries close August 14. A PDF of the magazine is also available to download at this address.
